“Young Ones—Be Discreet and Wise”
1 Parents are like shepherds. They must take good care of their children, who could easily stray and become vulnerable to attack. (Prov. 27:23) How can parents fulfill this role? They must spend time each day communicating with their children in order to know what is in their minds and hearts. (Prov. 20:5) Also, parents must build with fire-resistant materials to fortify the faith of their children. (1 Cor. 3:10-15) Since regular family worship is vital to reach this goal, view the video “Young Ones—Be Discreet and Wise” together as a family, and then discuss the following questions.
2 (1) In the beginning of the ancient drama, how was Joseph treated by his brothers, and why? (2) In the beginning of the modern-day parallel, how was the young brother who was considering pioneering treated by other young ones in the congregation, and why? (3) What situation developed involving Potiphar’s wife, and how did Joseph react? (4) In the modern-day drama, what took place when the young people were talking in a group? Do you think the Witness youths were a good example? Explain. (5) When the girl approached the young brother alone, how was this similar to what Joseph experienced in the past? How did the young man respond? (6) What happened to Joseph after he fled from Potiphar’s wife? (7) What did the non-Witness girl do after the young brother resisted her immoral proposal, and how was the young brother’s faith tested further? (8) How was Joseph rewarded for his faithfulness? (9) How was the young brother blessed by Jehovah for his integrity? (10) In reviewing this drama, what do parents learn regarding the importance of preparing their children for tests they may face? (11) What role does open communication play in helping parents to fortify their children for tests they may be experiencing? (Deut. 6:6, 7) (12) What do young ones learn regarding the importance of obedience to Jehovah even if others in the congregation may be leading a double life? (Prov. 27:11) (13) Why is consistency vital for family worship? (Eph. 6:4)
3 NOTE TO FAMILY HEADS: This modern-day drama was presented at the regional conventions in 2011. At that time, did you detect a need to fortify your children for tests that could arise? What about now? Are you determined to strengthen your children’s faith and integrity by your regular family worship each week? If further adjustments are needed, please prayerfully make changes for the everlasting benefit of your family.—Eph. 5:15-17.
