Teaching With Good News—On DVD
1. How is Good News—On DVD designed?
1 As discussed in the July issue of Our Kingdom Ministry, one important tool in our teaching toolbox is Good News From God!—On DVD. While many of our study publications are prepared in such a way that the householder can learn on his own, this publication was designed to be discussed with an instructor. Therefore, when we offer it, we should try to demonstrate the study so that the householder can see how thrilling it is to learn good news from the Bible.—Matt. 13:44.
2. How can we use Good News—On DVD on the initial call?
2 On the Initial Call: After becoming acquainted, to explain the reason for your visit you might say:
Witness: I’m here because people often ask themselves important questions such as, “Why does God allow evil and suffering?,” “How can my family be happy?,” and “What hope is there for the dead?” Which of these questions are you most interested in?
Non-Witness: I think it is, ‘Why does God allow evil and suffering?’
Witness: The Bible does contain the answers to that question and the others I mentioned. Learning the answers can give you hope for the future. I would like to show you briefly how easy it is to learn from the Bible using this sign-language video. [He shows the householder the DVD.]
After introducing the DVD, demonstrate the study using the first paragraph of the lesson the householder chose. Another option is to ask the householder an interest-arousing question based on a lesson you chose and then demonstrate how the DVD can help him find the Bible’s answer. If that lesson has a corresponding interpreted Good News From God! Web video on jw.org, some publishers play it during their presentation.
3. Explain how to conduct a study using Good News—On DVD.
3 How to Conduct the Study: (1) Before showing a paragraph, draw attention to the main point. You could say something like: “While watching this paragraph, notice how important it is to study God’s Word.” (2) Show the paragraph(s). (3) Ask the numbered question to make sure the householder understood what he watched. (4) If there is a quoted scripture, watch it and discuss how it relates to the paragraph. If one of the interpreted Good News From God! Web videos matches the question and you have not yet played it for the householder, do so at some point in the discussion.
4. What will help us to use this valuable tool with skill?
4 Get familiar with this valuable tool. Use it on every appropriate occasion. Before each study, think about the student and the best way to reason with him, using the scriptures in the lesson. (Prov. 15:28; Acts 17:2, 3) As you gain experience and skill, you may very well view this DVD as one of your favorite tools to use in teaching people the truth!
