40 And YOU must take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of splendid trees, the fronds of palm trees+ and the boughs of branchy trees and poplars of the torrent valley, and YOU must rejoice+ before Jehovah YOUR God seven days.

12 And YOU must rejoice before Jehovah YOUR God,+ YOU and YOUR sons and YOUR daughters and YOUR man slaves and YOUR slave girls and the Levite who is inside YOUR gates,* because he has no share or inheritance with YOU.+

11 And you must rejoice+ over all the good that Jehovah your God has given you and your household, you and the Levite and the alien resident who is in your midst.+

10 And he went on to say to them: “Go, eat the fatty things and drink the sweet things, and send portions+ to the one for whom nothing has been prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord,* and do not feel hurt, for the joy of Jehovah is YOUR stronghold.”

17 Thus all the congregation of those who had come back from the captivity made booths and took up dwelling in the booths; for the sons of Israel had not done that way from the days of Joshua* the son of Nun+ until that day, so that there came to be very great rejoicing.+

18 Look! The best thing that I myself have seen, which is pretty, is that one should eat and drink and see good for all his hard work+ with which he works hard under the sun for the number of the days of his life that the [true] God has given him, for that is his portion.
