55* Now at the moment that Saul saw David going out to meet the Phi·lisʹtine, he said to Abʹner+ the chief of the army: “Whose+ son is the boy,+ Abʹner?” To this Abʹner said: “By the life of your soul, O king, I do not know at all!”

3 But David swore+ in addition and said: “Your father must surely know that I have found favor in your eyes,+ and so would say, ‘Do not let Jonʹa·than know this for fear he may feel hurt.’ But, in fact, as Jehovah is living+ and as your soul is living,+ there is just about a step between me and death!”+

11 At this U·riʹah said to David: “The Ark+ and Israel and Judah are dwelling in booths, and my lord Joʹab and the servants of my lord+ are camping on the face of the field, and I—shall I go into my own house to eat and drink and to lie down with my wife?+ As you are living and as your soul is living,+ I shall not do this thing!”

2 And E·liʹjah began to say to E·liʹsha: “Sit here, please, because Jehovah himself has sent me clear to Bethʹel.” But E·liʹsha said: “As Jehovah is living+ and as your soul is living,+ I will not leave you.”+ So they went down to Bethʹel.+

30 At this the mother of the boy said: “As Jehovah is living+ and as your soul is living,+ I will not leave you.”+ Therefore he got up and went with her.*

5 For the living are conscious that they will die;*+ but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all,*+ neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.+
