28 At this Samuel said to him: “Jehovah has ripped away+ the royal rule of Israel from off you today, and he will certainly give it to a fellowman of yours who is better than you.+

5 In Heʹbron he ruled as king over Judah for seven years and six months;+ and in Jerusalem+ he ruled as king for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

3 So all the older men* of Israel came to the king at Heʹbron and David concluded a covenant with them in Heʹbron before Jehovah; after which they anointed+ David as king over Israel, according to Jehovah’s word+ by means of Samuel.+
