33 “‘And YOU must not pollute the land in which YOU are;* because it is blood that pollutes the land,+ and for the land there may be no atonement respecting the blood that has been spilled upon it except by the blood of the one spilling it.+
28 When David heard of it afterward, he at once said: “I and my kingdom, from the standpoint of Jehovah, are innocent for time indefinite of bloodguilt+ for Abʹner the son of Ner.
30 As for Joʹab and A·bishʹai+ his brother, they killed Abʹner+ over the fact that he had put Asʹa·hel their brother to death at Gibʹe·on in the battle.+
31 Then the king said to him: “Do just as he has spoken and fall upon him; and you must bury him and remove from off me and from off the house of my father the blood*+ undeservedly shed that Joʹab spilled.+
