13 In turn the vine said to them, ‘Must I give up my new wine that makes God and men rejoice,+ and must I go to wave over the trees?’

28 Then Abʹsa·lom commanded his attendants, saying: “See, please, that just as soon as Amʹnon’s heart is in a merry mood with wine,+ and I shall certainly say to YOU, ‘Strike down Amʹnon!’ YOU must then put him to death. Do not be afraid.+ Have not I myself commanded YOU? Be strong and prove yourselves to be valiant men.”

10 On the seventh day, when the king’s heart was in a merry mood with wine,+ he said to Me·huʹman, Bizʹtha, Har·boʹna,+ Bigʹtha and A·bagʹtha, Zeʹthar and Carʹkas, the seven court officials that were ministering*+ to the person of King A·has·u·eʹrus,

6 Give intoxicating liquor, YOU people, to the one about to perish+ and wine to those who are bitter of soul.+

3 I explored with my heart by cheering my flesh even with wine,+ while I was leading my heart with wisdom,+ even to lay hold on folly until I could see what good there was to the sons of mankind in what they did under the heavens for the number of the days of their life.+

7 Go, eat your food* with rejoicing and drink your wine with a good heart,+ because already the [true] God has found pleasure in your works.+

19 Bread* is for the laughter of the workers, and wine itself makes life rejoice;+ but money* is what meets a response in all things.+
