13 The pronouncement against Babylon*+ that Isaiah* the son of Aʹmoz+ saw in vision:

47 Come down and sit down in the dust,+ O virgin daughter of Babylon.*+ Sit down on the earth where there is no throne,+ O daughter of the Chal·deʹans.+ For you will not experience again that people call you delicate and dainty.+

12 “‘And it must occur that when seventy years have been fulfilled+ I shall call to account against the king of Babylon and against that nation,’+ is the utterance of Jehovah, ‘their error, even against the land of the Chal·deʹans,+ and I will make it desolate wastes to time indefinite.+

2 “Tell [it] among the nations and publish [it].+ And lift up a signal;*+ publish [it]. Hide nothing, O men. Say, ‘Babylon has been captured.+ Bel* has been put to shame.+ Merʹo·dach has become terrified. Her images have been put to shame.+ Her dungy idols have become terrified.’

2 And he cried out with a strong voice,+ saying: “She has fallen! Babylon* the Great has fallen,+ and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation*+ and a lurking place of every unclean and hated bird!+
