9 “Do not drink wine or intoxicating liquor,+ you and your sons with you, when YOU come into the tent of meeting, that YOU may not die. It is a statute to time indefinite for YOUR generations,

15 The couriers themselves went out, being moved to speed+ because of the king’s word, and the law itself was given in Shuʹshan+ the castle. As for the king and Haʹman, they sat down to drink;+ but as for the city of Shuʹshan,+ it was in confusion.+

17 Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of noble ones and your own princes eat at the proper time for mightiness, not for mere drinking.+

7 And these also—because of wine they have gone astray and because of intoxicating liquor they have wandered about. Priest and prophet+—they have gone astray because of intoxicating liquor, they have become confused as a result of the wine, they have wandered+ about as a result of the intoxicating liquor; they have gone astray in their seeing, they have reeled as to decision.

4 They drank wine, and they praised the gods* of gold and of silver, copper, iron, wood and stone.+

11 Fornication* and wine and sweet wine are what take away good motive.*+
