17 But he looked straight at them and said: “What, then, does this mean where it is written: ‘The stone that the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone’?+ 18 Everyone falling on that stone will be shattered.+ As for anyone on whom it falls, it will crush him.”

23 but we preach Christ executed on the stake, to the Jews a cause for stumbling+ but to the nations foolishness.+

7 It is to you, therefore, that he is precious, because you are believers; but to those not believing, “the stone that the builders rejected,+ this has become the chief cornerstone”*+ 8 and “a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.”+ They are stumbling because they are disobedient to the word. To this very end they were appointed.
