a Technically speaking, the 21st century will begin on January 1, 2001. Popular usage, however, views the 1st century as being from the year 1 through 99 (there was no year 0); the 2nd century, from the year 100 through 199; and accordingly, the 21st century, from the year 2000 through 2099.
