a The account in the book of Genesis describing the garden of Eden is not a parable, but Eden was an actual locality that was quite extensive. The text points to a location north of the Mesopotamian plains, the source of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. (Genesis 2:7-14) It was to serve as a model, according to which man could pattern and cultivate the rest of the earth.
