Footnote

c The Hebrew expression rendered “I shall not meet any man kindly” has been described by scholars as “an extremely difficult phrase” to translate. The New World Translation inserts the word “kindly” so as to convey the thought that no outsiders would be allowed to come to Babylon’s rescue. A translation by the Jewish Publication Society renders this clause: “I will . . . let no man intercede.”
