Footnote
a While conversing with his 12 apostles before the Last Supper, Jesus drew on these words of David. In pointing to the fact that one of the 12 would betray him, Jesus said: “I know the ones I have chosen. But it is in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled. ‘He that used to feed on my bread has lifted up his heel against me.’” (John 13:18) God knew that Jesus would undergo ill treatment from a close associate in a way that resembled what happened to David.
