During World War II, from 1939 to 1945, the Republic of Ireland remained neutral, but Northern Ireland, as part of the United Kingdom, braved bombing raids and other war hardships.
One problem that arose during these years was the need to maintain a spiritual food supply. During the war the British government imposed a censorship ban that prohibited the import and export of The Watchtower and other publications of the Society.
