2 Since Saul’s son Jonʹa·than was very fond of David,+ Jonʹa·than told David: “My father Saul wants to have you put to death. Please be on your guard in the morning, and go to a secret place and remain hidden.

17 So Jonʹa·than had David swear again by his love for him, for he loved him as he loved himself.*+

41 When the attendant left, David rose up from a place nearby that was to the south. Then he fell with his face to the ground and bowed three times, and they kissed each other and wept for each other, but David wept the most.

16 Jonʹa·than the son of Saul now went out to David at Hoʹresh, and he helped him find strength* in Jehovah.+ 17 He said to him: “Do not be afraid, for my father Saul will not find you; you will be king over Israel,+ and I will become second to you; and my father Saul also knows that.”+ 18 Then the two of them made a covenant+ before Jehovah, and David stayed in Hoʹresh, and Jonʹa·than went to his home.
