The writing on the wall

LESSON 63

Nii Te Ponɛni Pɛlɛi Ma

After some time, Belshazzar start ruling as king in Babylon. One night, he invite most of the important people in the country to his palace for party. He tell his servant dem to bring the gold cups that Nebuchadnezzar take from Jehovah temple. Belshazzar and his visitor dem wor drinking from the cup and praising their gods. Right away, one man hand appear and start writing something strange on the wall in the dining hall.

Belshazzar wor scare. So he call his magic men dem and promise them say: ‘If anybody explain the meaning for this writing, I will make them the third powerful person in Babylon.’ All of them try, but nobody wor able to explain the writing. Then the queen say to him: ‘One man they call Daniel use to explain things to Nebuchadnezzar. He able to explain this writing to you.’

When Daniel go to the king. The king tell him say: ‘If you can read and explain this writing, I will give you one gold chain and make you the third powerful person in Babylon.’ Then Daniel tell him say: ‘I not want your gift. But I will tell you the meaning for this writing. Your pa Nebuchadnezzar wor proud, and Jehovah humble him. You know everything that happen to him, but you not show respect to Jehovah by drinking wine in the gold cups from His temple. So God write this word dem: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. The writng mean that the Medes and the Persians will conquer Babylon, and you will not be king again.’

It wor looking like nobody able to conquer Babylon. Thick fence and deep river wor protecting the city. But that same night, the Medes and the Persians attack Babylon. Cyrus who wor the King for Persia make way for the water to go in different direction so his soldier dem can be able to enter the city. When they reach to the city, the gates wor open! The soldiers people conquer the city, and kill the king. Then Cyrus start ruling Babylon.

Within one year time, Cyrus tell the people say: ‘Jehovah na tell me to build his temple back in Jerusalem. Anybody who want help with the work free to go.’ So just how Jehovah promise, plenty of the Israelites go back home 70 years after Jerusalem wor destroy. Cyrus send the gold, the silver cups and other thing dem back that Nebuchadnezzar take from the temple. You see how Jehovah use Cyrus to help His people?
