7 So the elders of Moʹab and the elders of Midʹi·an traveled with the fee for divination in their hands and went to Baʹlaam+ and conveyed to him Baʹlak’s message.

25 When Israel was dwelling in Shitʹtim,+ the people started to commit sexual immorality with the daughters of Moʹab.+ 2 The women invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods,+ and the people began to eat and to bow down to their gods.+ 3 So Israel joined in worship of* the Baʹal of Peʹor,+ and Jehovah became enraged with Israel.

17 “Harass the Midʹi·an·ites and strike them down,+ 18 because they have been harassing you with their cunning dealings against you in the affair of Peʹor+ and of Cozʹbi the daughter of a chieftain of Midʹi·an, their sister who was put to death+ in the day of the scourge over the affair of Peʹor.”+

14 “‘Nevertheless, I have a few things against you, that you have there those adhering to the teaching of Baʹlaam,+ who taught Baʹlak+ to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.*+
