25 “If you become father to sons and grandsons and you have lived a long time in the land and you act ruinously and make a carved image+ of any kind and you do what is evil in the eyes of Jehovah your God so as to offend him,+ 26 I do take the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you today that you will surely and quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of. You will not last long on it, but you will be utterly annihilated.+

17 “But if your heart turns away+ and you do not listen and you are enticed and bow down to other gods and serve them,+ 18 I tell you today that you will certainly perish.+ You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.

12 “But if you should turn back at all and stick to what is left of these nations that remain+ with you and you form marriage alliances*+ with them and associate with them and they with you, 13 you should know for sure that Jehovah your God will not continue to drive out* these nations for you.+ They will become a trap and a snare and a scourge on your flanks+ and thorns in your eyes until you have perished from this good land that Jehovah your God has given you.
