12 Then the king gave this order to Hil·kiʹah the priest, A·hiʹkam+ the son of Shaʹphan, Achʹbor the son of Mi·caiʹah, Shaʹphan the secretary, and A·saiʹah the king’s servant: 13 “Go, inquire of Jehovah in my behalf, in behalf of the people, and in behalf of all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found; for Jehovah’s rage that has been set ablaze against us is great,+ because our forefathers did not obey the words of this book by observing all that is written concerning us.”

13 So Neb·uʹzar·adʹan the chief of the guard, Neb·u·shazʹban the Rabʹsa·ris,* Nerʹgal-shar·eʹzer the Rabʹmag,* and all the principal men of the king of Babylon sent 14 and had Jeremiah taken out of the Courtyard of the Guard+ and handed him over to Ged·a·liʹah+ the son of A·hiʹkam+ the son of Shaʹphan+ to be brought to his house. So he lived among the people.

5 While Jeremiah still had not turned back, Neb·uʹzar·adʹan said: “Return to Ged·a·liʹah+ the son of A·hiʹkam+ the son of Shaʹphan,+ whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and stay with him among the people; or go wherever you choose.”
The chief of the guard then gave him a food allowance and a gift and let him go.
