45 “All these curses+ will certainly come upon you and pursue you and overtake you until you have been annihilated,+ because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God by keeping his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you.+

6 In the ninth year of Ho·sheʹa, the king of As·syrʹi·a captured Sa·marʹi·a.+ He then led the people of Israel into exile+ in As·syrʹi·a and made them dwell in Haʹlah and in Haʹbor at the river Goʹzan+ and in the cities of the Medes.+

7 This happened because the people of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the control of Pharʹaoh king of Egypt.+ They worshipped* other gods,+

4 Their names were O·hoʹlah,* the older one, and her sister O·holʹi·bah.* They became mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. As for their names, O·hoʹlah is Sa·marʹi·a,+ and O·holʹi·bah is Jerusalem.

5 “O·hoʹlah began to prostitute herself+ while she belonged to me. She lusted after her passionate lovers,+ her neighbors the As·syrʹi·ans.+
