49 “Jehovah will raise up against you a distant nation,+ from the end of the earth; it will pounce like an eagle,+ a nation whose language you will not understand,+ 50 a nation fierce in appearance that will show no regard to the old or favor to the young.+ 51 They will eat the offspring of your livestock and the fruitage of your ground until you have been annihilated. They will not leave any grain, new wine or oil, young cattle or sheep for you until they have destroyed you.+

15 “Here I am bringing in on you a nation from far away, O house of Israel,”+ declares Jehovah.

“It is an enduring nation.

17 They will devour your harvest and your bread.+

They will devour your sons and your daughters.

They will devour your flocks and your herds.

They will devour your vines and your fig trees.

They will destroy with the sword your fortified cities in which you trust.”

22 This is what Jehovah says:

23 They will grab hold of the bow and the javelin.

They are cruel and will have no mercy.

They draw up in battle order like a man of war against you, O daughter of Zion.”

22 “Therefore, O·holʹi·bah, this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah says: ‘Here I am stirring up your lovers+ whom you* turned away from in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every direction,+ 23 the sons of Babylon+ and all the Chal·deʹans,+ the men of Peʹkod+ and Shoʹa and Koʹa, along with all the sons of As·syrʹi·a. All of them are desirable young men, governors and deputy rulers, warriors and handpicked,* all mounted on horses.
