3 In those days John+ the Baptist came preaching+ in the wilderness of Ju·deʹa, 2 saying: “Repent, for the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.”+ 3 This, in fact, is the one spoken of through Isaiah the prophet+ in these words: “A voice of one calling out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of Jehovah!* Make his roads straight.’”+

7 While these were on their way, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see?+ A reed being tossed by the wind?+

10 This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Look! I am sending my messenger ahead of you,* who will prepare your way ahead of you!’+

2 Just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “(Look! I am sending my messenger ahead of you,* who will prepare your way.)+ 3 A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of Jehovah!* Make his roads straight.’”+ 4 John the Baptizer was in the wilderness, preaching baptism in symbol of repentance for forgiveness of sins.+

76 But as for you, young child, you will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go ahead of Jehovah* to prepare his ways,+

6 There came a man who was sent as a representative of God; his name was John.+

23 He said: “I am a voice of someone crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make the way of Jehovah* straight,’+ just as Isaiah the prophet said.”+

28 You yourselves bear me witness that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,+ but I have been sent ahead of that one.’+
