38 And in his teaching he went on to say: “Beware of the scribes who want to walk around in robes and want greetings in the marketplaces+ 39 and front* seats in the synagogues and the most prominent places at evening meals.+

43 Woe to you Pharisees, because you love the front* seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces!+

7 He then told the invited men an illustration when he noticed how they were choosing the most prominent places for themselves.+ He said to them:

10 But when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when the man who invited you comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, go on up higher.’ Then you will have honor in front of all your fellow guests.+
