3 In those days John+ the Baptist came preaching+ in the wilderness of Ju·deʹa,

5 Then the people of Jerusalem and all Ju·deʹa and all the country around the Jordan were going out to him,+ 6 and they were baptized* by him in the Jordan River,+ openly confessing their sins.

20 For Herod was in fear of John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man,+ and he was keeping him safe. After hearing him, he was at a great loss as to what to do, yet he continued to hear him gladly.
