21 Thus David came to Saul and began serving him.+ Saul grew to love him very much, and he became his armor-bearer.

2 From that day, Saul kept David with him, and he did not allow him to return to his father’s house.+

13 So Saul removed him from his presence and appointed him as chief of a thousand, and David would lead the army into battle.*+
