12 Jephʹthah then sent messengers to the king of the Amʹmon·ites,+ saying: “What do you have against me* that you have come to attack my land?” 13 So the king of the Amʹmon·ites said to the messengers of Jephʹthah: “It is because Israel took my land when they came up out of Egypt,+ from the Arʹnon+ to the Jabʹbok and as far as the Jordan.+ Now return it peaceably.”

49 For the Amʹmon·ites,+ this is what Jehovah says:

“Does Israel have no sons?

Does he have no heir?

Why has Malʹcam+ taken possession of Gad?+

And why are his people living in Israel’s cities?”
