4 As time de go, all the elders for Israel gather together and them come meet Samuel for Ra′mah. 5 Them tell-am say: “See! You don old, but your sons no de follow your example. As e be so, choose king for us wey go de judge us, just as e be for all the other nations.” 6 But Samuel no happy* when them talk say: “Give us king wey go judge us.” Samuel come pray to Jehovah. 7 Then Jehovah tell Samuel say: “Listen to everything wey the people de tell you; because no be you them don reject, but na me be the person wey them don reject as their king. 8 Na so them don de do from the day wey I carry them comot from Egypt come reach today; them de leave me de serve other gods, and na the same thing them de do to you. 9 So listen to them, but make you warn them well-well. Tell them wetin the king wey go rule them go get right to collect from their hand.”
10 So Samuel tell the people wey de tell-am say make e give them king, all the things wey Jehovah don talk. 11 E tell them say: “Na wetin the king wey go rule una go get right to collect from una hand be this: E go take una sons and put them for im chariots and use them as people wey go de ride im horse, and some of them go de run for front of im chariots. 12 And e go choose people for imself wey go de control one-one thousand soldiers, and people wey go de control fifty-fifty soldiers, and some of them go de do farm work for-am, some go de harvest wetin e don plant for-am, and some go de make things wey e go de use to fight war and things for im chariots. 13 E go take una daughters and turn them to people wey de make cream,* people wey de cook food, and people wey de bake. 14 E go collect the one wey better pass for una lands, una vine farms, and una olive farms, and e go give them to im servants. 15 E go collect one part out of ten parts of wetin una harvest from una farms and una vine farms, and e go give-am to im servants wey get high position and im other servants. 16 And e go take the men and women wey be una servants, una cows and bulls wey better pass, and una donkeys, and e go use them do im work. 17 E go take one sheep or goat out of every ten sheep or goat wey una get, and una go come be im servants. 18 The day go come when una go cry because of the king wey una don choose for unaself, but Jehovah no go answer una when e go happen.”
19 But the people no gree listen to wetin Samuel tell them. Them talk say: “No, we don make up our mind say we go get our own king. 20 Then we go be like all the other nations, and our king go judge us and lead us and fight for us.” 21 After Samuel don hear everything wey the people talk, e talk-am again make Jehovah hear. 22 Jehovah tell Samuel say: “Listen to them, and choose king wey go rule them.” Samuel come tell the men of Israel say: “Make each of una go back to im city.”
