9 As we just do this things finish, the leaders come meet me and talk say: “Israel people and the priests and the Levites never separate theirself from the people of the lands and the serious bad things wey them de do. The things wey Ca′naan people, Hit′tite people, Per′iz·zite people, Je′bus people, Am′mon people, Mo′ab people, Egypt people, and Am′or·ite people de do. 2 Them don marry some of their daughters as wives for theirself and for their sons. Now the people wey be holy children* don join body with the people of the lands. Na the leaders and the assistant rulers be the people wey de commit this sin pass.”

3 Now as I just hear this thing, I tear my cloth and my coat wey no get hand, and I pull some of my hair and my beard-beard comot, I come sitdown and I surprise no be small. 4 Then everybody wey de really respect* the things wey the God of Israel talk gather around me because of the sin of the people wey come back from where them be slaves before. And that time I just sitdown de surprise no be small until the time wey them de do evening grain offering.

5 Then, for the time wey them de do the evening grain offering, I stand up from where I be sitdown de mourn with my cloth and my coat wey no get hand wey I tear. I come kneel down and spread my hands to Jehovah my God. 6 And I talk say: “O my God, shame de catch me and I no reach to raise my face to look you, O my God, because our mistakes don plenty ontop our head, and our sins don plenty sotey e don reach heaven. 7 From the time of our papa-papa them till today, our sin don plenty no be small; and because of our mistakes, you don put us, our kings, and our priests, for the hands of the kings of the land, and them don use sword kill us, carry us go as slaves, pack our things, and disgrace us just the way e be today. 8 But now for small time, Jehovah our God don show us favor as e allow some people wey remain to escape, and as e give us safe place for im holy place, to make our eyes shine, O our God, and to make things better for us small as we be slaves. 9 Because even though say we be slaves, our God no leave us as we be slaves, instead, e show us im love wey no de fail for front of the kings of Persia, to give us power so that we go fit build the house of our God and repair the place them wey scatter, and so that e go give us stone wall* for Judah and Jerusalem.

10 “But now, O our God, wetin we fit talk after this thing? Because we don stop to obey your commandments, 11 wey you use your servants the prophets give us, say: ‘The land wey una de enter to inherit na land wey no clean because of the dirty things wey the people of the lands de do, because of the serious bad things wey them de do. Them don full-am from one end go reach the other end with their dirty things. 12 So, make una no give una daughters to their sons, and make una no gree make their daughters marry una sons, and make una no ever do anything wey go make them get peace and make things better for them, so that una go fit grow and dey strong and eat the good things wey the land de produce and still leave-am for una sons to inherit-am forever.’ 13 And after all the things wey happen to us because of the bad things wey we do and our plenty sins—you no treat us according to our mistakes, O our God, and you don allow us wey dey here to escape— 14 we suppose disobey your commandments again and marry people wey de do this serious bad things? You no go vex for us sotey e go make you destroy us finish, and nobody go remain or survive? 15 O Jehovah the God of Israel, you dey righteous because some of us don survive reach today. Now, we dey your front with our sin, even though say e no dey possible to stand for your front because of this thing.”
