Judges
7 Then Jer·ub·baʹal, wey be, Gidʹe·on, and all the people wey dey with-am wake up early and put their camp near the Well of Haʹrod, but the camp of Midʹi·an people dey north of im camp for the hill of Moʹreh wey dey the level land.* 2 So Jehovah tell Gidʹe·on say: “The people wey dey with you too much for me to put Midʹi·an people for their hand. If no be so, Israel fit boast about imself and tell me say, ‘Na me use my own hand save myself.’ 3 Now, abeg, make announcement for front of the people say: ‘Make anybody wey de fear and de shake go back to im house.’” So Gidʹe·on test them. And 22,000 people go back to their house, but 10,000 people remain.
4 But Jehovah still tell Gidʹe·on say: “The people wey dey with you still too much. Tell them make them go down to where the water dey, so that I fit test them for you for there. When I tell you say, ‘This one go follow you go,’ e go follow you go, but when I tell you say, ‘This one no go follow you go,’ e no go follow you go.” 5 So e carry the people go down to where the water dey.
Then Jehovah tell Gidʹe·on say: “Separate everybody wey de use im tongue lick the water from im hand just as dog de lick water with im tongue, from people wey bend down with their knees to drink the water.” 6 The number of people wey de lick the water, wey de use their hand put water for their mouth, na 300 men. The rest of the people bend down with their knees to drink the water.
7 So Jehovah tell Gidʹe·on say: “I go use the 300 men wey lick the water to save una, and I go put Midʹi·an people for your hand. But make all the other people go back to their house.” 8 So after them don collect the food and the horns from the people, e tell all the other men of Israel say make them go back to their house and e leave only the 300 men. The camp of Midʹi·an dey down for the level land* and the camp of Gideon dey up.
9 That night, Jehovah tell-am say: “Get up, attack the camp because I don put-am for your hand. 10 But if you de fear to attack, make you go down to where the camp dey with Puʹrah your servant. 11 Make you listen to wetin them de talk, and after, you go get the heart* to attack the camp.” So Gidʹe·on and Puʹrah im servant go down near the corner of the army camp.
12 Now Midʹi·an people and Amʹa·lek people and all the People From the East cover the level land* like group of locusts, and person no fit count their camels. Them plenty like the sand wey dey the side of sea. 13 So Gidʹe·on come, and one man de tell another person the dream wey e dream and de talk say: “This one na the dream wey I dream. I see one round barley bread de roll enter the camp of Midʹi·an people. E reach one tent and hit-am with power sotey the tent fall. Yes, e turn the tent upside down and the tent fall reach ground.” 14 So the other person wey dey with-am, tell-am say: “E clear say this one na the sword of Gidʹe·on, the son of Joʹash, wey be man of Israel. God don put Midʹi·an people and all the camp for im hand.”
15 As Gidʹe·on hear-am de talk about the dream and the meaning, e bow down to worship God. After that one, e go back to the camp of Israel and talk say: “Get up, because Jehovah don put the camp of Midʹi·an people for una hand.” 16 Then e divide the 300 men to three groups and give all of them horns and big empty jars with fire sticks inside the jars. 17 Then e tell them say: “Make una watch me and do the same thing wey I go do. When I come near the corner of the camp, una go do the same thing wey I do. 18 When I blow the horn, me and all the people wey dey with me, una must still blow the horns round the whole camp and shout say, ‘For Jehovah and for Gidʹe·on!’”
19 Gidʹe·on and the 100 men wey dey with-am come near the corner of the camp for the time wey the middle night watch* start, just after them put soldiers to guard. Them blow the horns and scatter the big water jars wey be dey their hands. 20 So the three groups blow the horns and scatter the big jars. Them hold the fire sticks for their left hand and blow the horns wey dey their right hand and them shout say: “The sword of Jehovah and the sword of Gidʹe·on!” 21 For all this time, each man stand for where e dey round the whole camp, and all the army run comot. Them de shout as them de run. 22 The 300 men continue to blow the horns, and Jehovah make the people to use their sword against each other for the whole camp; and the army run go reach Beth-shitʹtah, and continue go reach Zerʹe·rah, and go far reach Aʹbel-me·hoʹlah near Tabʹbath.
23 And them call the men of Israel together from the tribe of Naphʹta·li, Ashʹer, and the whole of Ma·nasʹseh, and them pursue Midʹi·an people. 24 Gidʹe·on send messengers go all the areas wey mountain dey for Eʹphra·im, and e talk say: “Make una go down to attack Midʹi·an people, and block where person fit pass go the rivers, go reach Beth-barʹah and River Jordan.” So them gather all the men of Eʹphra·im together, and them block the water go reach Beth-barʹah and River Jordan. 25 Them still catch the two leaders* of Midʹi·an people, Oʹreb and Zeʹeb; them kill Oʹreb for Oʹreb rock, and them kill Zeʹeb for Zeʹeb place wey them de make wine. Them continue to pursue Midʹi·an people, and them bring the heads of Oʹreb and Zeʹeb come give Gidʹe·on for the area of River Jordan.
