The Second Book of Samuel
11 For the beginning of the year,* for the time wey kings de go fight war, David send Jo′ab and im servants and the whole army of Israel to go destroy Am′mon people and them surround Rab′bah, but David stay for Jerusalem.
2 One evening,* David get up from im bed, and e waka round ontop the roof part of the king house.* From the roof part, e see one woman wey de bath, and the woman fine no be small. 3 David come send person make e go find out about the woman, and the person talk say: “No be Bath-she′ba the daughter of E·li′am, the wife of U·ri′ah wey come from the family of Heth be that?” 4 Then, David send messengers to go bring the woman. And the woman come meet-am, and e sleep with the woman. (This one happen when the woman de clean imself from im period.*) After, the woman go back to im house.
5 Then, the woman get belle, and e send message to David say: “I don get belle.” 6 So David send message to Jo′ab say: “Tell U·ri′ah wey come from the family of Heth make e come meet me.” So Jo′ab tell U·ri′ah make e go meet David. 7 When U·ri′ah come meet-am, David ask-am how Jo′ab dey, how the other soldiers dey, and how the war de go. 8 Then David tell U·ri′ah say: “Go your house go rest.”* When U·ri′ah comot from the king house, them carry the king gift* follow-am. 9 But U·ri′ah sleep for the place wey them take de enter the king house with all the other servants of im lord. E no go im own house. 10 So them tell David say: “U·ri′ah no go* im own house.” So David ask U·ri′ah say: “You just come back from journey, no be so? Why you no go down to your own house?” 11 U·ri′ah answer David say: “The Ark, Israel people, and Judah people dey for tents, and my lord Jo′ab and the servants of my lord dey for camp for bush. How I go go my own house, go chop and drink and sleep with my wife? As long as you dey alive and de breathe,* I no go fit do this kind thing!”
12 Then David tell U·ri′ah say: “Still stay here today, and tomorrow, I go leave you make you go.” So U·ri′ah stay for Jerusalem that day and the next day. 13 So David send message say make them call U·ri′ah to come chop and drink with-am, and e give-am drink sotey e come dey drunk. But for evening, e comot go sleep for im bed with the servants of im lord, and e no go im own house. 14 For morning, David write letter to Jo′ab and e give U·ri′ah make e go give-am. 15 E write for the letter say: “Put U·ri′ah for front-front where the fight de really hot, then comot from im back so that them go hit-am and kill-am.”
16 Jo′ab don de sofri watch the city, and e put U·ri′ah for where e know say strong soldiers dey. 17 When the men of the city come out come fight against Jo′ab, some of David servants die, and U·ri′ah wey come from the family of Heth dey among the people wey die. 18 So Jo′ab tell David all the news about the war. 19 E tell the messenger say: “When you tell the king all the news about the war finish, 20 the king fit vex and talk say, ‘Why una go near the city like that to fight? Una no know say them go shoot from ontop the wall? 21 Who kill A·bim′e·lech the son of Je·rub′be·sheth? No be one woman wey dey ontop wall for The′bez throw grinding stone* for im head wey kill-am? Why una go near the wall like that?’ Then talk say, ‘Your servant U·ri′ah wey come from the family of Heth die too.’”
22 So the messenger go tell David everything wey Jo′ab talk say make e tell-am. 23 Then the messenger tell David say: “Their men strong pass us, and them come out come fight us for bush; but we pursue them go back go the gate of the city. 24 And people wey de shoot arrow, shoot your servants from ontop the wall, and some of the servants of the king die. Your servant U·ri′ah wey come from the family of Heth die too.” 25 So David tell the messenger say: “Tell Jo′ab say: ‘Make you no let this matter worry you, because anybody fit die for war. Fight the city well-well and win-am.’ And make you encourage-am.”
26 When U·ri′ah wife hear say im husband U·ri′ah don die, e start to mourn im husband. 27 As the woman just mourn im husband finish, David talk say make them go bring-am, and them bring-am come im house. E come be David wife, and e born one boy for-am. But the thing wey David do really make Jehovah vex.*
