Deuteronomy 15:1-23

Deuteronomy

15 “For the end of every seven years, make you give freedom to people. 2 Na like this the freedom go be: Everybody wey borrow im neighbor something go free the person from wetin e de owe. Make e no talk say im neighbor or im brother must pay, because them go announce this one as freedom to honor Jehovah. 3 You fit ask stranger to pay, but make you free your brother from anything wey e de owe you wey you get the right to collect. 4 But, nobody among Israel people suppose dey poor, because Jehovah go surely bless you for the land wey Jehovah your God de give you to take as your property, 5 but na only if you obey everything wey Jehovah your God talk and you sofri obey all this commandments wey I de give you today. 6 Because Jehovah your God go bless you just as e don promise you, and many nations go borrow from you, but you no go need to borrow from people; and you go control many nations, but them no go control you.

7 “If one of your brothers come dey poor for inside one of your cities for the land wey Jehovah your God de give you, make you no make your heart strong or tight your hand for your poor brother. 8 Make you use all your heart open hand for-am and do everything wey you fit do to borrow-am anything wey e need or wey e no get. 9 Dey careful make you no get this wicked idea for inside your heart say, ‘The seventh year, the year of the freedom don de near,’ and then you no come open hand for your poor brother, and you no give-am anything. If e cry to Jehovah because of you, this one go be sin against you. 10 Make you open hand give-am and make you* no give-am come de complain, because this one na why Jehovah your God go bless everything wey you de do and wey you put hand. 11 Poor people go always dey for the land. Na because of that one I de command you say, ‘Use all your heart open hand for your person wey de suffer and your poor brother wey dey for your land.’

12 “If them sell one of your Hebrew person* to you, whether na man or woman and e don serve you for six years, then for the seventh year make you free-am. 13 And if you free-am, make you no allow-am go with empty hand. 14 Make you open hand give-am something from your animals, the place wey you de separate grain from plants, and the place wey you de make your oil and wine from. Make you give the person just as Jehovah your God don bless you. 15 Remember say you be slave for the land of Egypt before and say Jehovah your God buy you back. Na because of that one I de command you to do this thing today.

16 “But if e tell you say, ‘I no go leave you!’ because e love you and the people for your house, since e de happy as e dey with you, 17 then make you take pin wey them de use put hole for something and use-am put hole for im ear against the door, and e go be your slave for life. Make you do the same thing with your slave girl. 18 Make you no think-am say things go hard for you when you free-am and e leave you, because the work wey e do for you for six years plenty reach two times of the one wey person wey them hire go do, and Jehovah your God don de bless you for everything.

19 “Make you make every firstborn male of your animals and your sheep dey holy to Jehovah your God. Make you no do any work with the firstborn of your cow* or remove the hair of the firstborn of your sheep. 20 Make you and the people for your house chop-am for front of Jehovah your God from year to year for the place wey Jehovah go choose. 21 But if part of im body no complete—e no fit waka, e dey blind, or e get any other serious problem for body—make you no sacrifice-am to Jehovah your God. 22 Make you chop-am for inside your cities,* both the person wey no clean together with the person wey clean, like say na gazelle or na deer. 23 But make you no ever chop im blood; you must pour-am for ground like water.
