6 But Israel people do wetin bad for Jehovah eyes again, so Jehovah put them for the hand of Midʹi·an people for seven years. 2 The hand of Midʹi·an people come really strong against Israel. Because of Midʹi·an people, Israel people make places wey them go de hide* theirself for mountains, for caves, and for different-different place wey hard to enter. 3 If Israel people plant seed, Midʹi·an people, Amʹa·lek people, and the People From the East go attack them. 4 Them go put their camp around them to attack them and destroy wetin their land produce go reach Gazʹa, and them no leave anything for Israel people to chop, them no leave sheep, bull, or donkey. 5 Because them go come with their animals and tents wey plenty like locusts, and person no fit count how them and their camels plenty reach, and them go come inside the land to destroy-am. 6 So Israel people come poor no be small because of Midʹi·an people; and Israel people beg Jehovah to help them.
7 When Israel people beg Jehovah to help them because of Midʹi·an people, 8 Jehovah send one prophet to Israel people wey tell them say: “This na wetin Jehovah the God of Israel talk, ‘I bring una come out from Egypt and na so I bring una come out from the place wey una be dey as slaves.* 9 So I save una from the hand of Egypt people and from all the people wey de suffer una, and I pursue them comot from una front and give una their land. 10 And I tell una say: “I be Jehovah una God. Make una no ever fear the gods of Amʹor·ite people wey una de stay for their land.” But una no obey me.’”*
11 After, Jehovah angel come and e sitdown under the big tree wey dey Ophʹrah, wey Joʹash wey be Abi-eʹzer person get. Im son wey be Gidʹe·on de hit wheat to separate-am from the chaff for the place wey them de make wine, so that e go hide-am from Midʹi·an people. 12 Jehovah angel appear to-am and talk say: “Jehovah dey with you, you wey be strong person wey sabi fight.” 13 So Gidʹe·on tell-am say: “Abeg no vex for me, my lord, but if Jehovah dey with us, why all this things don happen to us? Where all the wonderful things wey e do wey our papa them de tell us about say, ‘No be Jehovah bring us come out of Egypt?’ Now Jehovah don leave us and put us for the hand of Midʹi·an people.” 14 Jehovah turn face-am and talk say: “Go with the power wey you get, and you go save Israel from the hand of Midʹi·an people. No be me de send you?” 15 Gidʹe·on answer-am say: “No vex for me Jehovah. How I fit save Israel? See! My family group* na im small pass for Ma·nasʹseh, and I no be anything for my papa house.” 16 But Jehovah tell-am say: “Because I go dey with you, you go win Midʹi·an people like say them be one man.”
17 Then e tell-am say: “If e be say I don gain your favor, show me sign say na you de talk with me. 18 Abeg no comot from here until I come back with my gift and put-am for your front.” So e talk say: “I go stay here until you come back.” 19 Then Gidʹe·on enter inside and prepare young goat and e use one eʹphah* of flour make bread wey no get yeast. E put the meat inside basket and the meat water for inside cooking pot; then e bring them come out for-am and serve the food for under the big tree.
20 Then the angel of the true God tell-am say: “Take the meat and the bread wey no get yeast and put them ontop the big rock for there, and pour the meat water come out.” And na so e do. 21 Then Jehovah angel stretch the stick wey dey im hand and use the mouth of the stick touch the meat and the bread wey no get yeast. And fire come out from the rock and burn the meat and the bread wey no get yeast finish. Then Jehovah angel disappear for im front. 22 Na that time Gidʹe·on know say na Jehovah angel be that.
At once, Gidʹe·on talk say: “O Jehovah the Lord Wey High Pass, na Jehovah angel I don see face-to-face so!” 23 But Jehovah tell-am say: “Make you get peace. No fear; you no go die.” 24 So Gidʹe·on build altar to Jehovah for there, and them de call-am Je·hoʹvah-shaʹlom* till today. E still dey for Ophʹrah wey be Abi-eʹzer people own.
25 That night, Jehovah tell-am say: “Take the young bull wey your papa get, the second young bull wey dey seven years, and destroy the altar of Baʹal wey your papa get, and cut the idol pole* wey dey near-am down. 26 After you don use the stones wey them arrange for row to build altar to Jehovah your God ontop this safe place, make you take the second young bull and sacrifice-am as offering wey them de burn ontop the pieces of wood wey you get from the idol pole* wey you cut down.” 27 So Gidʹe·on take ten men from im servants and do just as Jehovah tell-am. But e fear im papa family and the men for the city no be small, sotey e no fit do-am for daytime, so e do-am for night.
28 When the men for the city wake up for early morning the next day, them see say them don destroy* the altar of Baʹal and them don cut the idol pole* wey dey near-am down, and them don even sacrifice the second young bull ontop the altar wey them build. 29 Them start to ask each other say: “Who do this thing?” After them don check well, them talk say: “Na Gidʹe·on the son of Joʹash do-am.” 30 So the men of the city tell Joʹash say: “Bring your son come out make we kill-am because e destroy* the altar of Baʹal and cut down the idol pole* wey dey near-am.” 31 Then Joʹash tell all the people wey come quarrel with-am say: “Why una de defend Baʹal? Why una want save-am? Anybody wey defend-am, make them kill that person this morning. If Baʹal na god, make e defend imself because person don destroy* im altar.” 32 And that day, e call Gidʹe·on Jer·ub·baʹal,* e say: “Make Baʹal defend imself because person don destroy* im altar.”
33 All Midʹi·an people and Amʹa·lek people and the People From the East join hand together to fight; and them cross* enter the Lowland* of Jezʹre·el and put their camp for there. 34 Then Jehovah spirit enter Gidʹe·on body* and e blow the horn, and Abi-eʹzer people come support-am. 35 E send messengers go round the whole tribe of Ma·nasʹseh, and them come support-am too. E still send messengers go round the tribe of Ashʹer, Zebʹu·lun, and Naphʹta·li, and them come up come meet-am.
36 Then Gidʹe·on tell the true God say: “If you de use me save Israel people just as you don promise, 37 I de spread this piece of wool wey them make from sheep hair for the place wey them de separate grain from plant. If dew dey only ontop the piece of wool, but the whole ground wey dey around-am dry, then I go know say you go use me save Israel people just as you don promise.” 38 And na so e happen. When e get up for early morning the next day and squeeze the piece of wool, e squeeze enough dew from the wool sotey the water wey come out full one big bowl. 39 But Gidʹe·on tell the true God say: “Make you no vex for me, but make I beg for just one more thing. Abeg, allow me make I use the wool do one more test. Abeg, make only the wool dey dry, but make dew cover the whole ground.” 40 So na wetin God do that night. Na only the wool dey dry, but dew cover the whole ground.
