The Second of Kings
19 As King Hez·e·ki′ah just hear this one, e tear im cloths, then e wear sackcloth and go the house of Jehovah. 2 Then e send E·li′a·kim wey de take care of people for the king family,* Sheb′nah wey be the secretary, and the elders of the priests, go meet prophet Isaiah wey be the son of A′moz, and na sackcloth them wear. 3 Them tell-am say: “This na wetin Hez·e·ki′ah talk, ‘Today na day of trouble, day of insult, and day of disgrace; because time don reach to born the children,* but no power to push them come out from belle. 4 Maybe Jehovah your God go hear all the things wey the Rab′sha·keh talk, wey the king of As·syr′i·a wey be im lord send-am to come challenge the living God, and e go make-am answer for the things wey e talk, wey Jehovah your God don hear. So make you pray for this people wey remain wey don survive.’”
5 So the servants of King Hez·e·ki′ah go meet Isaiah, 6 and Isaiah tell them say: “Na wetin una go tell una lord be this, ‘This na wetin Jehovah talk: “Make you no fear because of the things wey you hear, the things wey the servants of the king of As·syr′i·a talk against me. 7 See, I de put one matter for im mind,* and e go hear one report, then e go go back to im own land; and I go do-am make them use sword kill-am for im own land.”’”
8 When the Rab′sha·keh hear say the king of As·syr′i·a don comot from La′chish, e go back go meet-am and see-am as e de fight against Lib′nah. 9 Now the king hear say Tir·ha′kah wey be the king of E·thi·o′pi·a don come out to fight against-am. So e send messengers again make them go meet Hez·e·ki′ah and talk say: 10 “Make una tell Hez·e·ki′ah wey be king of Judah say, ‘No let your God wey you trust deceive you as E talk say: “Them no go put Jerusalem for the hand of the king of As·syr′i·a.” 11 See! You don hear wetin the king of As·syr′i·a do all the lands as e destroy them. You think say na only you them go save? 12 The nations wey my papa-papa them destroy, their gods save them? Where Go′zan, Ha′ran, Re′zeph, and the people of E′den wey be dey for Tel-as′sar? 13 Where the king of Ha′math, the king of Ar′pad, the king of Seph·ar·va′im cities, the king of He′na, and the king of Iv′vah dey?’”
14 Hez·e·ki′ah collect the letters from the hand of the messengers and read them. Then Hez·e·ki′ah go up go the house of Jehovah and spread them* for Jehovah front. 15 Hez·e·ki′ah come start to pray for Jehovah front and e talk say: “O Jehovah the God of Israel, wey sitdown for im throne ontop* the cherubs, na only you be the true God for all the kingdoms for the earth. Na you make the heavens and the earth. 16 O Jehovah, sofri listen and hear! Open your eyes, O Jehovah, and see! Hear the things wey Sen·nach′er·ib send people come talk to challenge the living God. 17 O Jehovah, na true say As·syr′i·a kings don destroy the nations and their lands. 18 And them don throw their gods inside fire, because no be gods them really be, them be things wey people use hand make, wood and stone. Na im make them fit destroy them. 19 But now, O Jehovah our God, abeg save us from im hand, so that all the kingdoms for the earth go know say na only you be God, O Jehovah.”
20 Then Isaiah the son of A′moz send this message to Hez·e·ki′ah say: “This na wetin Jehovah the God of Israel talk, ‘I don hear your prayer wey you pray to me because of Sen·nach′er·ib wey be king of As·syr′i·a. 21 This na wetin Jehovah talk against-am:
“The virgin daughter of Zion no see you as anything, e de laugh you.
The daughter of Jerusalem de shake im head for you.
22 Na who you don challenge and talk bad things about?
Na who you raise your voice de talk against?
And na who you de open eye for?
Na the Holy One of Israel!
23 You use your messengers challenge Jehovah and talk say,
‘With the plenty-plenty war chariots wey I get,
I go climb go the up-up parts of mountains,
The place them wey dey inside-inside pass for Leb′a·non.
I go cut the big-big cedar trees wey dey there, and the better-better juniper trees wey dey there.
I go enter im place them wey far pass, the parts of im forests wey thick pass.
24 I go dig wells and drink another type of water;
I go use the under of my leg dry all the streams* for Egypt.’
25 You never hear? E don tey wey I make this decision.*
No be today I don arrange-am down.
Now I go make-am happen.
You go turn cities wey get strong protection to place wey don scatter finish wey people no dey again.
26 The people wey de stay inside them no go get who go help them;
Them go fear no be small and them go make them shame.
Them go be like plants for bush and green grass,
Them go be like grass wey dey ontop roof wey the hot breeze wey de come from east side don dry.
27 But I really know you, I know when you sitdown, when you comot, when you come back,
And when you de vex for me,
28 Because the vex wey you de vex for me and the shout wey you de shout don reach my ear.
So I go put my hook for your nose and use my rope tie your mouth to control you like horse,
And na the road wey you pass come I go make you pass go back.”
29 “‘And na this one go be the sign for you:* This year you go chop wetin grow from ground by imself;* and for the second year, you go chop grain wey grow from the same place; but for the third year, you go plant seeds and harvest wetin you plant, and you go plant vine farms and chop wetin come out from them. 30 Judah people wey escape, the ones wey remain, go be like tree wey im root enter ground well-well, and wey de produce plenty fruits. 31 Because people go still dey alive wey go come out from Jerusalem, and people go survive wey go come out from Mount Zion. Jehovah of armies wey really get this thing for mind go do-am.
32 “‘So this na wetin Jehovah talk about the king of As·syr′i·a:
“E no go enter this city
Or shoot any arrow for there
Or use shield fight for there
Or heap sand like fence round-am to attack-am.
33 Na the road wey e pass come e go pass go back;
E no go enter this city,” na so Jehovah talk.
34 “I go defend this city and save-am because of my name
And because of David my servant.”’”
35 That very night, the angel of Jehovah comot go kill 185,000 men for As·syr′i·a people camp. When people wake up for early morning, them see say dead body full everywhere. 36 So Sen·nach′er·ib wey be king of As·syr′i·a comot go back go Nin′e·veh and stay there. 37 And as e dey the house* of im god Nis′roch de bow down, im own sons A·dram′me·lech and Shar·e′zer use sword kill-am. Them come run go the land of Ar′a·rat. Im son E′sar-had′don come start to rule as king after-am.
