GENESIS

1 For the beginning, God create the heavens and the earth.

2 That time, the earth never arrange well and e dey empty. Darkness cover the water for everywhere, and God spirit de move ontop the water.

3 And God talk say: “Make light dey.” And so light dey.

4 After that one, God see say the light dey good, and God start to separate the light from the darkness. 5 God call the light Day, but e call the darkness Night. And so evening dey and morning dey, this one na the first day.

6 Then God talk say: “Make open space dey between the water them, wey go divide the water to two parts.”* 7 God come make the open space and e divide the water them, one part dey under the open space and the other one dey ontop the open space. And na so e come be. 8 God call the open space Heaven.* And so evening dey and morning dey, this one na the second day.

9 Then God talk say: “Make the water them wey dey under the heavens gather together for one place, and make dry land show.” And na so e come be. 10 God call the dry land Earth, but e call the water wey gather together Sea.* And God see say e dey good. 11 Then God talk say: “Make grass grow for the earth, different-different kind of plants wey de produce seed, and trees wey de produce fruit. Them go produce fruit together with seed for the earth.” And na so e come be. 12 And the earth start to produce different-different kind of grass, plants wey de produce seed, and trees wey de produce fruit together with seed. Then God see say e dey good. 13 And so evening dey and morning dey, this one na the third day.

14 Then God talk say: “Make lights dey for the open space wey dey the heavens to separate day from night. Them go be signs to show seasons and days and years. 15 Them go shine as light for the open space wey dey the heavens to bring light for the earth. And na so e come be. 16 God come make the two bright lights. The light wey bright pass go de shine for* daytime, and the light wey no shine reach that one go de shine for* night. And e still make the stars. 17 So God put them for the open space wey dey the heavens to shine for the earth 18 and to shine for daytime and for night,* and to separate light and darkness. Then God see say e dey good. 19 And so evening dey and morning dey, this one na the fourth day.

20 Then God talk say: “Make things* wey get life full the water, and make things wey de fly, de fly for up for the open space wey dey between the earth and the heavens.”* 21 And God create different-different kind of big animals for sea and all the things* wey get life wey de move and wey de swim for big groups inside water, and different-different kind of things wey get wings to fly. And God see say e dey good. 22 So God bless them, e talk say: “Make una born and plenty and full the water for the sea, and make things wey de fly plenty for the earth.” 23 And so evening dey and morning dey, this one na the fifth day.

24 Then God talk say: “Make different-different kind of things* wey get life dey the earth, different-different kind of animals wey fit live with people and animals wey de crawl* and bush animals for the earth.” And na so e come be. 25 God come make different-different kind of bush animals for the earth, and different-different kind of animals wey fit live with people, and all the different-different kind of animals wey de crawl for ground. And God see say e dey good.

26 Then God talk say: “Make we make man for our image, to be like us, and make them de control the fish for the sea, the things wey de fly for the heavens, the animals wey fit live with people, the whole earth, and all the animals wey de crawl for the earth.” 27 God come create the man for im image, na for im image e create-am; e create man and woman. 28 Another thing be say, God bless them, and God tell them say: “Make una born and plenty, make una full the earth and control-am. And make una de control the fish for the sea, and the things wey de fly for the heavens, and everything wey get life wey de move for the earth.”

29 Then God talk say: “I don give una all the plant wey de produce seed wey dey for the whole earth and all the trees wey get fruit wey de produce seed. Make them be food for una. 30 And all the bush animal for the earth, all the things wey de fly for the heavens, and everything wey de move for the earth wey get life,* I don give all the green plant as food to them.” And na so e come be.

31 After that one, God look everything wey e don make and see! e really dey good. And so evening dey and morning dey, this one na the sixth day.

2 So God complete the heavens and the earth and everything inside them.* 2 And when the seventh day reach, God don already complete the work wey e don de do,* and e start to rest for the seventh day from all im work wey e don de do.* 3 And God come bless the seventh day and e talk say e dey holy, because na that day God don de rest after e don create everything wey e get for mind to make.

4 This na the story about the heavens and the earth for the time wey God create them, for the day wey Jehovah* God make earth and heaven.

5 But no tree wey de grow for land don dey the earth and no plant wey de grow for land don start to grow, because Jehovah God never make rain fall for the earth and no man dey to do work for the ground. 6 But dew go move go up from the earth, and e go wet the whole ground.

7 And Jehovah God come de form the man from the sand* wey dey ground and e blow life* inside im nose, and the man come be person* wey get life. 8 Another thing be say, Jehovah God make garden for E′den, wey dey the east side, and e put the man wey e don form for there. 9 So Jehovah God make every tree wey fine for eye and wey good to chop to grow from the ground, and e still make the tree of life for the middle of the garden and the tree wey stand for knowledge of good and bad to grow from the ground.

10 Now one river de flow come out from E′den to give the garden water, and from there the river divide to four rivers.* 11 The name of the first river na Pi′shon; na this one surround the whole land of Hav′i·lah, where gold dey. 12 The gold for that land dey good. Bdellium gum* and onyx stone* still dey there. 13 The name of the second river na Gi′hon; na this river surround the whole land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river na Hid′de·kel;* na this river de flow go the east of As·syr′i·a. And the fourth river na Eu·phra′tes.

15 Jehovah God take the man and put-am for the garden of E′den to do farm work for the garden and to care for-am. 16 Jehovah God still command the man say: “You fit chop belleful from all the trees wey dey the garden. 17 But as for the tree wey stand for the knowledge of good and bad, make you no ever chop from-am, because the day wey you chop from-am, you go surely die.”

18 Then Jehovah God talk say: “E no good make the man continue to dey alone. I go make person for the man wey go de help-am, person wey go really fit-am.”* 19 Now Jehovah God don de use the sand from ground to form every bush animal wey go dey land and everything wey de fly for the heavens. And e start to bring them come meet the man to see wetin e go call each of them; and anything wey the man call each of the things* wey get life, na that one come be im name. 20 So the man give name to all the animals wey fit live with people and the things wey de fly for the heavens and all the bush animals, but the man no get person wey go help-am, person wey really fit-am.* 21 So Jehovah God make the man sleep deep sleep, and as e de sleep, e take one of im ribs and then cover the flesh back for where e take the rib from. 22 And Jehovah God use the rib wey e don take from the man to make woman, and e bring the woman to the man.

23 Then the man talk say:

“At last, this one na bone from my bones

And na flesh from my flesh.

Im name go be Woman,

Because God make-am from man.”

24 Because of this one, man go leave im papa and im mama and e go dey tight with* im wife, and them go be one flesh. 25 And the two of them continue to dey naked, the man and im wife; but them no shame.

3 Among all the bush animals wey Jehovah God don make for the ground, na the snake get cunning-cunning sense pass. So e tell the woman say: “God really talk say make una no chop fruit from all the trees for the garden?” 2 So the woman tell the snake say: “We fit chop the fruit from the trees wey dey the garden. 3 But God don talk about the fruit from the tree wey dey the middle of the garden say: ‘Make una no ever chop from-am, no, make una no ever touch-am. If una do-am, una go die.’” 4 So the snake tell the woman say: “Una no go die at all. 5 Because God know say na the day wey una go chop from-am, una eye go open and una go be like God, una go know good thing and bad thing.”

6 So the woman see say the tree dey good to chop, and say na something wey good for eye. True-true, the tree dey good for eye. So e start to pluck the fruit and de chop-am. After, e still give some of the fruit to im husband when im husband dey with-am, and e start to chop-am. 7 Then their eye open, and them come know say them be dey naked, so them join fig leaves together and make cloths to cover round their hips.

8 Later when Jehovah God de waka for the garden, around the time of the day when cool breeze de blow, them hear im voice, and the man and im wife hide from Jehovah God among the trees of the garden. 9 And Jehovah God continue to call the man and de tell-am say: “Where you dey?” 10 At last, e talk say: “I hear your voice for the garden, but I de fear because I dey naked, so I hide.” 11 So e talk say: “Who tell you say you dey naked? You don chop from the tree wey I command you say make you no chop from?” 12 The man talk say: “The woman wey you give me to dey with me, na im give me fruit from the tree, so I chop-am.” 13 Then Jehovah God tell the woman say: “Wetin be this thing wey you don do?” The woman answer say: “Na the snake deceive me, so I chop-am.”

14 Then Jehovah God tell the snake say: “Because you don do this thing, I don curse you out of all the animals wey fit live with people and out of all the bush animals. Na your belle you go use de crawl and you go chop sand* all your life. 15 And I go make you and the woman to be enemy. And I go make your pikin* and im pikin* to be enemy. E go scatter your head, and you go wound-am for im leg.”

16 And e tell the woman say: “I go really add to the pain wey you go feel when you get belle. You go born children with pain, and you go always need your husband, and e go control you.”

17 And e tell Adam* say: “Because you listen to the voice of your wife and chop from the tree wey I command you about say, ‘Make you no ever chop from-am,’ I don curse the ground because of you. For all your life, you go suffer to get the food wey e go produce.* 18 Chuku-chuku and grass wey fit chuk person go grow for the ground, and you must chop the plant wey de grow for the land. 19 You go sweat before you see food* chop until you go back to the ground, because I make you from the ground. Na sand* you be, and you go go back to sand.”*

20 After this one, Adam name im wife Eve,* because e go be mama of everybody wey get life. 21 And Jehovah God make long cloths from animal skin for Adam and for im wife, to cover them. 22 Then Jehovah God talk say: “Now, the man don be like one of us as e don know good and bad. But so that e no go stretch im hand and still pluck the fruit from the tree of life and chop-am and live forever, —” 23 And so Jehovah God drive-am comot from the garden of E′den to do farm work for the ground wey e come from. 24 So e drive the man come out, and e put the cherubs for the east side of the garden of E′den, and sword wey get fire, wey de turn everytime, to block the road to the tree of life.

4 Now Adam sleep with im wife Eve, and e get belle. When e born Cain, e talk say: “Jehovah don help me born pikin wey be boy.” 2 After, e born Cain brother, Abel.

Abel come be shepherd wey de care for animals, but Cain come be farmer. 3 After some time, Cain bring some fruits wey the ground produce as offering to Jehovah. 4 But Abel bring some of the first pikin them wey im animals born and their fat. And Jehovah accept Abel and im offering,* 5 but e no accept Cain and im offering.* So Cain really vex and e really feel sad. 6 Then Jehovah tell Cain say: “Why you de vex like that and de feel sad? 7 If you change and de do good, I no go accept* you back?* But if you no change and de do good, sin de wait for your door, and e want control you, but you go get the power to fit control-am?”

8 After that one, Cain tell im brother Abel say: “Make we go bush.” So as them dey bush, Cain attack im brother Abel and kill-am. 9 After, Jehovah ask Cain say: “Where your brother Abel?” and e answer say: “I no know. I be my brother watchman?” 10 So E talk say: “Wetin you don do so? Listen! Your brother blood de call me from ground. 11 And now, curse go follow you, and I don drive you comot from the ground where you kill your brother and where im blood dey.* 12 When you do work for the ground, e no go produce well for you, you go de waka-waka for the earth and de live like person wey run from im place.” 13 So Cain tell Jehovah say: “The punishment for my sin too much for me to carry. 14 Today you de drive me comot from the land, and I no go dey your front again, and I go be person wey de waka-waka for the earth, and de live like person wey run from im place, and anybody wey see me go surely want kill me.” 15 So Jehovah tell-am say: “Because of that one, anybody wey kill Cain go get punishment seven times.”

So Jehovah put sign for Cain so that anybody wey see Cain no go kill-am. 16 Then Cain comot from front of Jehovah and start to live for the land where people wey run comot from their place de stay,* wey face the east side of E′den.

17 After, Cain sleep with im wife, and e get belle and born E′noch. Then e start to build one city and the name wey e give the city na E′noch, the name of im son. 18 After, E′noch born I′rad. And I′rad come be Me·hu′ja·el papa, and Me·hu′ja·el come be Me·thu′sha·el papa, and Me·thu′sha·el come be La′mech papa.

19 La′mech take two women as wife. The name of the first one na A′dah, and the name of the second one na Zil′lah. 20 A′dah born Ja′bal. Na Ja′bal be the first person wey live for tent and wey train animals. 21 The name of im brother na Ju′bal. Na im be the first person wey start to play harp and flute.* 22 And Zil′lah born Tu′bal-cain, wey form all kind of tools wey them de make from copper and iron. And Tu′bal-cain sister na Na′a·mah. 23 Then La′mech talk this things to im wives, wey be A′dah and Zil′lah:

“La′mech wives, make una hear my voice;

Listen to wetin I de talk:

I kill one man because e wound me,

Yes, na because this young man strike me.

24 If anybody wey kill Cain go get punishment 7 times,

Then anybody wey kill La′mech go get punishment 77 times.”

25 Adam sleep with im wife again, and e born boy. Eve call-am Seth* because, as Eve talk, “God don give me* another pikin* to replace Abel, because Cain kill-am.” 26 Seth wife still born one boy for-am, and Seth call-am E′nosh. Na that time people start to call the name of Jehovah.

5 This one na the book wey talk about the story of Adam. For the day wey God create Adam, e make-am to be like God. 2 Na man and woman e create. For the day wey e create them, e bless them and call them Human.*

3 Adam live for 130 years, e come born boy wey be like-am, for im image, and e call-am Seth. 4 After e don born Seth, Adam live for 800 years. And e born sons and daughters. 5 So all the years wey Adam live na 930 years, and then e die.

6 After Seth live for 105 years, e come be E′nosh papa. 7 After e born E′nosh, Seth live for 807 years. And e born sons and daughters. 8 So all the years wey Seth live na 912 years, and then e die.

9 After E′nosh live for 90 years, e come be Ke′nan papa. 10 After e don born Ke′nan, E′nosh live for 815 years. And e born sons and daughters. 11 So all the years wey E′nosh live na 905 years, and then e die.

12 After Ke′nan live for 70 years, e come be Ma·hal′a·lel papa. 13 After e don born Ma·hal′a·lel, Ke′nan live for 840 years. And e born sons and daughters. 14 So all the years wey Ke′nan live na 910 years, and then e die.

15 After Ma·hal′a·lel live for 65 years, e come be Ja′red papa. 16 After e born Ja′red, Ma·hal′a·lel live for 830 years. And e born sons and daughters. 17 So all the years wey Ma·hal′a·lel live na 895 years, and then e die.

18 After Ja′red live for 162 years, e come be E′noch papa. 19 After e born E′noch, Ja′red live for 800 years. And e born sons and daughters. 20 So all the years wey Ja′red live na 962 years, and then e die.

21 After E′noch live for 65 years, e come be Me·thu′se·lah papa. 22 After e born Me·thu′se·lah, E′noch continue to do wetin the true God like* for 300 years. And e born sons and daughters. 23 So all the years wey E′noch live na 365 years. 24 E′noch continue to do wetin the true God like.* Then e no dey again, because God take-am comot.

25 After Me·thu′se·lah live for 187 years, e come be La′mech papa. 26 After e born La′mech, Me·thu′se·lah live for 782 years. And e born sons and daughters. 27 So all the years wey Me·thu′se·lah live na 969 years, and then e die.

28 After La′mech live for 182 years, e come be papa of one son. 29 E call-am Noah,* and talk say: “This one go comfort us* for our hard work and from the pain wey we de feel for our work, because of the ground wey Jehovah don curse.” 30 After e born Noah, La′mech live for 595 years. And e born sons and daughters. 31 So all the years wey La′mech live na 777 years, and then e die.

32 After Noah reach 500 years, e come be Shem, Ham, and Ja′pheth papa.

6 Now when people start to plenty for the earth and de born girls, 2 the sons of the true God* start to notice say the girls wey people born really fine. So them start to take anyone wey them choose as wife. 3 Then Jehovah talk say: “My spirit no go allow make people continue to live, because them de do wetin their body want.* And so, na 120 years remain for them.”

4 The Nephilim* be dey for the earth that time and even after. That time, the sons of the true God continue to sleep with the girls wey people born, and this girls come born boys for them. Na them be the powerful people for old time, the men wey people know well-well.

5 So Jehovah see say the wicked things wey people de do don overplenty for the earth, and say everything wey them de think and wey their heart want na only bad things everytime. 6 E really pain Jehovah* say e don make people for the earth and e really dey sad.* 7 So Jehovah talk say: “I go destroy people wey I don create for the earth, people together with animals wey fit live with people, animals wey de crawl, and things wey de fly for the heavens, because e really pain me* say I make them.” 8 But Noah de do wetin sweet Jehovah.*

9 This one na the story about Noah.

Noah na man wey do wetin correct for God eye. E show say e be person wey them no fit talk bad about* among people for im time.* Noah do wetin the true God like.* 10 As time de go, Noah come be papa to three sons, Shem, Ham, and Ja′pheth. 11 But for the eyes of the true God, the earth don spoil, and everywhere for the earth full with fight-fight.* 12 True-true, God look the earth and e see say e don spoil. Na so-so bad thing everybody* de do for the earth.

13 After that one, God tell Noah say: “I don decide to destroy all flesh, because fight-fight full everywhere for the earth because of them, so I go destroy them, together with every other thing for the earth. 14 Build ark* with better wood.* You go make different-different rooms for the ark and cover the inside and outside with tar.* 15 This one na how you go make-am: The ark go long reach 300 cubits,* e go wide reach 50 cubits, and e go high reach 30 cubits. 16 Make you make window for the ark for light* to pass, make e be one cubit from the top. You go put the door of the ark for the side, and make the ark to be three-story. One for down, one for middle, and one for up.

17 “As for me, I go bring plenty water for the earth to destroy all flesh wey get life* under the heavens. Everything for the earth go die. 18 And I de make my agreement with you, and you must enter inside the ark, you, your sons, your wife and the wives of your sons with you. 19 And from every kind of animal* wey get life, make you bring two-two enter inside the ark, so that them go dey alive with you. Make them be male and female; 20 different-different kind of things wey de fly, different-different kind of animals wey fit live with people, and all the different-different kind of animals wey de crawl for ground. Two-two each go enter inside the ark meet you, so that them go dey alive. 21 As for you, make you gather every kind of food to chop and take the food with you, so that you and the animals go use-am as food.”

22 And Noah do everything the way God don command-am. Na so e just do-am.

7 After that one, Jehovah tell Noah say: “Go inside the ark, you and all your family, because I don see say na you de do wetin correct for my eye among people for this generation. 2 For every kind of clean animal, you must take seven, male and female;* and for every kind of animal wey no clean, take only two, male and female; 3 and for everything wey de fly for the sky, still take seven, male and female,* so that them go dey alive and get pikin wey go spread for the whole earth. 4 Because na just seven days remain, I go make rain fall for the earth for 40 days and 40 nights, and I go destroy everything wey get life wey I don make for the earth. 5 So Noah do everything wey Jehovah don command-am.

6 Noah dey 600 years when the plenty water come cover the earth. 7 So Noah, together with im sons, im wife, and the wives of im sons, enter inside the ark before the heavy rain start to pour. 8 Every animal wey clean, every animal wey no clean, everything wey de fly and everything wey de move for the earth, 9 na two-two them enter inside the ark go meet Noah, male and female, just as God don command Noah. 10 And after seven days, the plenty water start to pour for the earth.

11 For the 600th year of Noah life, for the second month, for the 17th day of the month, na that day all the plenty water wey gather for up-up burst open and the watergates for the heavens open. 12 And the rain pour for the earth for 40 days and 40 nights. 13 Na that day Noah enter inside the ark together with im sons, Shem, Ham, and Ja′pheth, and im wife and the three wives of im sons. 14 Them enter with every kind of bush animals, every kind of animals wey fit live with people, every kind of animals wey de crawl for the earth, and every kind of things wey de fly, like every bird and everything wey get wings. 15 Every kind of animals* wey get life* continue to go meet Noah inside the ark, two-two. 16 So every kind of animals* go inside, male and female, just as God don command-am. After that one, as Noah enter inside, Jehovah close the door.

17 The rain continue to fall* for 40 days for the earth, the water continue to rise and start to carry the ark, and the ark de float from the ground de go up. 18 The water come overplenty and continue to rise ontop the earth no be small, but the ark de float ontop the water. 19 The water really plenty for the earth sotey e cover all the tall mountains for the whole earth. 20 The water rise go up pass the mountains by 15 cubits.*

21 So all the things* wey get life, wey de move for the earth die—the things wey de fly, the animals wey fit live with people, the bush animals, groups of small-small animals, and all humans. 22 Everything wey dey for dry land wey get life and de breathe* with im nose die. 23 So e destroy everything wey get life wey dey the earth, and them be: people, animals, animals wey de crawl, and the things wey de fly for sky. E destroy all of them from the earth, na only Noah and people wey dey with-am for the ark survive. 24 And the water continue to cover the earth for 150 days.

8 But God no forget Noah and all the bush animals and the animals wey fit live with people wey dey with Noah for the ark, and God make breeze to blow for the earth, and the water start to come down. 2 The water wey gather for up-up wey de pour stop, and the watergates for the heavens close, so the rain from the heavens stop to fall. 3 Then the water start to go down small-small from the earth. For the end of 150 days, the water don reduce. 4 For the seventh month, for the 17th day of the month, the ark come stop ontop the Ar′a·rat mountains. 5 And the water continue to go down small-small until the tenth month. For the tenth month, for the first day of the month, the top of the mountains show.

6 So for the end of 40 days, Noah open the window wey e don make for the ark 7 and e send one raven bird go outside. The bird continue to de fly outside and de come back until the water don dry from the earth.

8 After, e send dove go outside to see whether the water don de go down from the ground. 9 The dove no see any place to rest, so e come back to Noah inside the ark because the water still de cover the whole earth. So Noah stretch im hand outside and bring-am inside the ark. 10 E wait for another seven days, and e send the dove go outside from the ark again. 11 When the dove come back to Noah for evening, Noah see say e pluck one fresh olive leaf for im mouth! So Noah know say the water don go down for the earth. 12 E still wait for another seven days. Then e send the dove go outside, but the dove no come back to Noah again.

13 Now for the 601st year, for the first month, for the first day of the month, the water don comot from the earth. And Noah open part of the roof for the ark* and see say the ground don dry. 14 For the second month, for the 27th day of the month, the earth don dry finish.

15 So God tell Noah say: 16 “Comot from the ark, you, your wife, your sons, and the wives of your sons. 17 Bring out all the different-different kind of animals with you, the things wey de fly, the animals, and all the animals wey de crawl for the earth, so that their pikin them go spread for the earth and them go born and plenty for the earth.”

18 So Noah go outside, together with im sons, im wife, and the wives of im sons. 19 Everything wey get life, every animal wey de crawl, and everything wey de fly, everything wey de move for the earth, comot from the ark family by family. 20 Then Noah make altar for Jehovah and take some of all the clean animals, and some of all the clean birds wey de fly, then e do sacrifice wey them burn with fire ontop the altar. 21 And Jehovah start to smell better smell* from the sacrifice. So Jehovah talk for im heart say: “I no go ever curse the ground again because of humans. Because from when them dey small, na bad thing their heart want. And I no go ever destroy everything wey get life again as I don do. 22 From now, the earth no go ever stop to get planting season and harvest season, cold and heat, hot season* and cold season,* and day and night.”

9 God come bless Noah and im sons and tell them say: “Make una born and plenty, and full the earth. 2 Everything wey get life for the earth and everything wey de fly for the heavens, everything wey de move for ground and all the fish for sea, them go continue to fear una, them don dey una hand now.* 3 All the animals wey de move wey dey alive fit be food for una. I don give una all of them just as I give una the green plants. 4 The only thing wey una no go ever chop na flesh with im life,* wey be im blood. 5 Apart from that one, anybody or animal wey kill person, I go make-am pay back for the life wey be the blood. Any animal wey kill person,* them go kill-am too. Anybody wey kill another person* go pay back for the life. 6 Any person wey kill another person,* na person go kill-am too,* because God make people for im image. 7 As for una, make una born and plenty, and increase well-well for the earth and spread.”

8 Then God tell Noah and im sons wey dey with-am say: 9 “Now, I de make my agreement with una and with una children and una children-children, 10 and with everything wey get life* wey dey with una, the birds, the animals, and everything wey get life for the earth wey dey with una, all the ones wey come out from the ark—everything wey get life for the earth. 11 True-true, I don make my agreement with una: I no go ever destroy all flesh* again with plenty water, and plenty water no go ever scatter the earth again.”

12 And God still talk say: “This na the sign of the agreement wey I de make between me and una and everything wey get life* wey dey with una, and all the ones wey go come for future. 13 I de put my rainbow for the cloud, and e go be sign of the agreement between me and the earth. 14 Anytime wey I make cloud gather to make rain fall for the earth, then the rainbow go surely appear for the sky. 15 And I go surely remember my agreement wey I make between me and una, and all the different-different kind of things wey get life;* and water no go ever plenty again sotey e destroy all flesh. 16 The rainbow go appear for the cloud, and I go surely see-am and remember the everlasting agreement between God and all the different-different kind of things wey get life* for the earth.”

17 God tell Noah again say: “This na the sign of the agreement wey I make between me and all flesh wey dey the earth.”

18 Noah sons wey come out of the ark na Shem, Ham, and Ja′pheth. After, Ham come be Ca′naan papa. 19 This na the three sons of Noah, and everybody for the earth come from them and spread go everywhere.

20 So Noah start to do farm work, and e plant vine for farm. 21 When e drink from the wine, e come dey drunk and e naked imself inside im tent. 22 Ham, wey born Ca′naan see im papa nakedness, and e tell im two brothers wey dey outside. 23 So Shem and Ja′pheth take cloth, put-am ontop their shoulder and use back waka enter the tent. So as them de cover their papa nakedness, them turn de look another place, and them no see their papa nakedness.

24 When Noah don wake up and the wine don clear from im eye, and e hear wetin im last son* don do to-am, 25 e talk say:

“Curse go follow Ca′naan.

Make e be slave* to im brothers.”

26 And e still talk say:

“Praise Jehovah, the God of Shem,

And make Ca′naan be slave to-am.*

27 Make God give land* wey really big to Ja′pheth,

And make e live for inside the tents of Shem.

Make Ca′naan be slave to-am* too.”

28 Noah continue to live for 350 years after the heavy rain. 29 So all the years wey Noah live na 950 years, then e die.

10 This na the story about the sons of Noah wey be Shem, Ham, and Ja′pheth.

Them born boys for them after the heavy rain. 2 The sons of Ja′pheth na Go′mer, Ma′gog, Ma′da·i, Ja′van, Tu′bal, Me′shech, and Ti′ras.

3 The sons of Go′mer na Ash′ke·naz, Ri′phath, and To·gar′mah.

4 The sons of Ja′van na E·li′shah, Tar′shish, Kit′tim, and Do′da·nim.

5 Na from them the people wey de live for the islands spread go their different-different land with their language them, their families, and their nations.

6 The sons of Ham na Cush, Miz′ra·im, Put, and Ca′naan.

7 The sons of Cush na Se′ba, Hav′i·lah, Sab′tah, Ra′a·mah, and Sab′te·ca.

The sons of Ra′a·mah na She′ba and De′dan.

8 Cush come be Nim′rod papa. And na Nim′rod be the first powerful person for the earth. 9 E come be powerful hunter wey dey against Jehovah. Na this one make some people de talk say: “Just like Nim′rod, one powerful hunter wey dey against Jehovah.” 10 Nim′rod start to rule as king for* Ba′bel, E′rech, Ac′cad, Cal′neh, wey dey the land of Shi′nar. 11 From that land, e go As·syr′i·a and build Nin′e·veh, Re·ho′both-Ir, Ca′lah, 12 and Re′sen, wey dey between Nin′e·veh and Ca′lah: This na the great city.*

13 Miz′ra·im come be papa to Lu′dim, An′a·mim, Le·ha′bim, Naph·tu′him, 14 Path·ru′sim, Cas·lu′him, and Caph′to·rim. (Na Cas·lu′him Phi·lisʹti·a people come from.)

15 Ca′naan come be Si′don papa, wey be im firstborn, and Heth, 16 together with Jeʹbus people, Am′or·ite people, Gir′gash people, 17 Hi′vite people, Ark′ite people, Si′nite people, 18 Ar′vad people, Zem′a·rite people, and Ha′math people. After, the families of Ca′naan people spread go different-different place. 19 So the boundary of Ca′naan people na from Si′don go reach Ge′rar, wey near Gaz′a, go reach the cities of Sod′om, Go·mor′rah, Ad′mah, and Ze·boi′im, and this cities near La′sha. 20 This na the sons of Ham with their families and their language them, with their lands and their nations.

21 Shem still get children wey them born for-am, and Shem na the papa-papa of all the sons of E′ber and the brother of Ja′pheth the senior pikin.* 22 The sons of Shem na E′lam, As′shur, Ar·pach′shad, Lud, and A′ram.

23 The sons of A′ram na Uz, Hul, Ge′ther, and Mash.

24 Ar·pach′shad come be She′lah papa, and She′lah come be E′ber papa.

25 Them born two sons for E′ber. One of them name na Pe′leg,* because na for im time the earth* divide. The name of im brother na Jok′tan.

26 Jok′tan come be papa of Al·mo′dad, She′leph, Ha·zar·ma′veth, Je′rah, 27 Ha·do′ram, U′zal, Dik′lah, 28 O′bal, A·bim′a·el, She′ba, 29 O′phir, Hav′i·lah, and Jo′bab; all this ones na the sons of Jok′tan.

30 The place wey them de live na from Me′sha go reach Se′phar. Se′phar na the area wey mountains dey for East side.

31 This ones na the sons of Shem with their families and their language them, with their lands and their nations.

32 This ones na the families of the sons of Noah according to their family line and their nations. Na from them different-different nations spread go other parts of the earth after the heavy rain fall.

11 Now the whole earth* continue to speak one language and de use the same words. 2 As them de travel go east side, them see one level land* for the land of Shi′nar, and them start to live for there. 3 Then them tell each other say: “Come! Make we make bricks and put-am for fire to make-am strong.” So them use bricks instead of stone, and use tar as cement. 4 So them talk say: “Come! Make we build one city for ourself and tall building wey go high reach the heavens, and make we make people know our name, so that we no go scatter go everywhere for the earth.”

5 So Jehovah go down* to see the city and the tall building wey the men don build. 6 Then Jehovah talk say: “See! This people dey as one and them de speak one language, and see wetin them don start to do. Now nothing wey them get for mind to do wey them no go fit do. 7 Come! Make we go down go confuse their language, so that them no go fit understand each other language.” 8 So Jehovah scatter them from that place go everywhere for the earth, and small-small, them stop to build the city. 9 That na why the name of the place come be Ba′bel,* because na there Jehovah confuse the language of the whole earth, and Jehovah scatter them from there go everywhere for the earth.

10 This na the story about Shem.

Shem dey 100 years when e be Ar·pach′shad papa, and this one na two years after the heavy rain. 11 After e born Ar·pach′shad, Shem continue to live for 500 years. And e born sons and daughters.

12 Ar·pach′shad live for 35 years, e come be She′lah papa. 13 After e born She′lah, Ar·pach′shad continue to live for 403 years. And e born sons and daughters.

14 She′lah live for 30 years, e come be E′ber papa. 15 After e born E′ber, She′lah continue to live for 403 years. And e born sons and daughters.

16 E′ber live for 34 years, e come be Pe′leg papa. 17 After e born Pe′leg, E′ber continue to live for 430 years. And e born sons and daughters.

18 Pe′leg live for 30 years, e come be Re′u papa. 19 After e born Re′u, Pe′leg continue to live for 209 years. And e born sons and daughters.

20 Re′u live for 32 years, e come be Se′rug papa. 21 After e born Se′rug, Re′u continue to live for 207 years. And e born sons and daughters.

22 Se′rug live for 30 years, e come be Na′hor papa. 23 After e born Na′hor, Se′rug continue to live for 200 years. And e born sons and daughters.

24 Na′hor live for 29 years, e come be Te′rah papa. 25 After e born Te′rah, Na′hor continue to live for 119 years. And e born sons and daughters.

26 After Te′rah don live for 70 years, e come be A′bram, Na′hor, and Ha′ran papa.

27 This na the story about Te′rah.

Te′rah na A′bram, Na′hor, and Ha′ran papa; and Ha′ran na Lot papa. 28 When im papa Te′rah still dey alive, Ha′ran die for the land wey them born-am, for Ur wey be the city of Chal·de′a people. 29 A′bram marry, and Na′hor marry too. The name of A′bram wife na Sar′ai, and the name of Na′hor wife na Mil′cah, wey be the daughter of Ha′ran. Na Ha′ran born Mil′cah and Is′cah. 30 Now Sar′ai no fit born; e no get any pikin.

31 Te′rah comot from Ur wey be the city of Chal·de′a people, and go the land of Ca′naan people. E go with A′bram im son, Lot im grandson, and Sar′ai im daughter-in-law. Lot na the son of Ha′ran, and Sar′ai na the wife of A′bram. As time de go, them reach Ha′ran and start to live for there. 32 Te′rah live for 205 years. Then Te′rah die for Ha′ran.

12 And Jehovah tell A′bram say: “Comot from your land, and leave your family people, and your papa family people. Go the land wey I go show you. 2 I go make you to be big* nation and I go bless you. I go make people know your name and you go be blessing for people. 3 I go bless people wey bless you, and I go curse anybody wey talk say make wicked things happen to you. I go surely bless all the families for the earth* because of you.”

4 So A′bram go just as Jehovah don tell-am, and Lot go with-am. A′bram dey 75 years when e comot from Ha′ran. 5 A′bram go with im wife Sar′ai and Lot wey be the son of im brother and all the property wey them don get, and the servants* wey them don get for Ha′ran. Them start to travel go the land of Ca′naan. When them reach the land of Ca′naan, 6 A′bram travel pass inside the land go reach the area wey them de call She′chem, wey near the big trees of Mo′reh. That time, na Ca′naan people dey the land. 7 Then Jehovah appear to A′bram and talk say: “I go give this land to your pikin.”* So e build one altar there for Jehovah wey appear to-am. 8 After, e comot from there to the area wey mountains dey for east side of Beth′el, and e stay for tent for there for some time. Beth′el dey the west side and A′i dey the east side. E build altar to Jehovah for there, and e start to call the name of Jehovah. 9 After, A′bram pack comot from there and start to travel go Neg′eb, and e de move im tent from one place to another place.

10 Now serious hunger start for the land, and A′bram start to go Egypt to stay there for some time,* because the hunger for the land serious no be small. 11 As e want enter Egypt, e tell im wife Sar′ai say: “Abeg, hear wetin I want talk. I know say you be woman wey really fine. 12 So when Egypt people see you, them go surely talk say, ‘This one na im wife.’ Then, them go kill me but them go leave you. 13 Abeg talk say you be my sister, so that them go treat me well because of you, and them no go kill me.”*

14 As A′bram just enter Egypt, Egypt people see say the woman fine no be small. 15 And the people wey de rule with Phar′aoh still see the woman, them start to talk well about the woman to Phar′aoh, sotey them take the woman to Phar′aoh palace. 16 E treat A′bram well because of the woman, so A′bram come get sheep, cows, male and female donkeys, man and woman servants, and camels. 17 Then Jehovah punish Phar′aoh and the people for im house with different-different things because of Sar′ai wey be the wife of A′bram. 18 So Phar′aoh call A′bram and talk say: “Wetin be this thing wey you do me? Why you no tell me say this woman na your wife? 19 Why you talk say, ‘Na my sister,’ wey make me be want take-am as my wife? See your wife. Carry-am go!” 20 So Phar′aoh give im men order about A′bram, and them leave-am make e go with im wife and everything wey e get.

13 Then A′bram comot* from Egypt to Neg′eb, e go with im wife and everything wey e get, together with Lot. 2 A′bram get plenty-plenty animals, silver, and gold. 3 E stay for different-different place as e de travel from Neg′eb to Beth′el, until e reach the place where im tent be dey between Beth′el and A′i. 4 Na this place e build altar before. A′bram call the name of Jehovah for there.

5 Now Lot, wey be de travel with A′bram still get sheep, cows, and tents. 6 So all of them no fit stay for the same place for the land. Their property don plenty sotey them no fit live together again. 7 Because of that one, the people wey de care for A′bram animals and the people wey de care for Lot animals start to quarrel. (That time, na Ca′naan people and Per′iz·zite people de live for the land.) 8 So A′bram tell Lot say: “Abeg, make quarrel no dey between me and you, and between the men wey de care for my animals and the men wey de care for your animals, because we be brothers. 9 You fit take any part of the land, no be so? Abeg, make we separate from each other. If you go left, then I go go right. But if you go right, then I go go left.” 10 So Lot raise im head and see all the area of the Jordan go reach Zo′ar. E see say the area really get water like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt (before Jehovah destroy Sod′om and Go·mor′rah). 11 Then Lot choose all the area of the Jordan and Lot pack go the east side. So them separate from each other. 12 A′bram live for the land of Ca′naan, but Lot live around the cities for the Jordan area. At last, e put im tent near Sod′om. 13 Now the people for Sod′om dey wicked. Them de put hand for serious sins against Jehovah.

14 After Lot don separate from A′bram, Jehovah tell A′bram say: “Look far, abeg, and from the place wey you dey, look the north side and the south side, the east side and the west side, 15 because all this land wey you see, I go give-am to you and your children* as una own forever. 16 And I go make your children* plenty like sand for ground, so that just as person no go fit count the sand for ground, na so them no go fit count your children.* 17 Now go, and waka round and check the land, because na you I go give-am to.” 18 So, A′bram continue to live for tents. After, e come de live for where the big trees of Mam′re dey, wey dey for Heb′ron, and e build altar for there for Jehovah.

14 For the days of Am′ra·phel king of Shi′nar, Ar′i·och king of El·la′sar, Ched·or·la·o′mer king of E′lam, and Ti′dal king of Goi′im, 2 this kings fight war with Be′ra king of Sod′om, Bir′sha king of Go·mor′rah, Shi′nab king of Ad′mah, Shem·e′ber king of Ze·boi′im, and the king of Be′la, this one na, Zo′ar. 3 All of them join their army together for the Lowland* of Sid′dim, this one na the Salt Sea.*

4 Them don serve Ched·or·la·o′mer for 12 years, but them turn against-am for the 13th year. 5 So for the 14th year, Ched·or·la·o′mer and the kings wey dey with-am come, and them win the tribe of Reph′a·im for Ash′te·roth-kar·na′im, the tribe of Zu′zim for Ham, the tribe of E′mim for Sha′veh-kir·i·a·tha′im, 6 and the tribe of Hor′ite for their mountain of Se′ir go reach El-pa′ran, wey dey for wilderness. 7 Then them turn back and come En-mish′pat, this one na Ka′desh, and win the whole area of Am′a·lek people and still win Am′or·ite people wey de live for Haz′a·zon-ta′mar.

8 Na that time the king of Sod′om go together with the king of Go·mor′rah, the king of Ad′mah, the king of Ze·boi′im, and the king of Be′la, this one na Zo′ar, and them prepare theirself to fight them for the Lowland* of Sid′dim, 9 against Ched·or·la·o′mer king of E′lam, Ti′dal king of Goi′im, Am′ra·phel king of Shi′nar, and Ar′i·och king of El·la′sar—four kings against five kings. 10 Now the Lowland* of Sid′dim get plenty pits wey tar dey inside, and the kings of Sod′om and Go·mor′rah try to escape but them fall inside the pits, and the ones wey remain run go the mountain area. 11 And the kings wey win carry all the things wey Sod′om and Go·mor′rah get and all their food and go. 12 Them still carry Lot wey be the son of A′bram brother, wey de live for Sod′om, together with all the things wey e get, and go.

13 After, one man wey escape, come tell A′bram wey be Hebrew person the things wey happen. That time, e de live* for where the big trees of Mam′re dey. Mam′re na Am′or·ite person, the brother of Esh′col and A′ner. This men de support A′bram. 14 So A′bram hear say them don catch im family person.* Because of this one, e arrange im men wey them don train, 318 servants wey them born for im house, and run follow them go reach Dan. 15 For night, e divide im men, and im together with im servants attack and win them. And e run follow them go reach Ho′bah, wey dey the north side of Damascus. 16 E take back all the things, and e still take back Lot wey be im family person, im things, the women, and the other people.

17 When A′bram return after e don win Ched·or·la·o′mer and the kings wey dey with-am, the king of Sod′om comot to go meet A′bram for the Lowland* of Sha′veh, this one na, the Lowland of the King. 18 And Mel·chiz′e·dek wey be king of Sa′lem bring bread and wine; na priest of the God Wey High Pass.

19 Then e bless A′bram and talk say:

“Make A′bram get blessing from the God Wey High Pass,

Wey make heaven and earth;

20 And make the God Wey High Pass get praise,

Na im don put all your enemies for your hand!”

And A′bram give-am tenth part* of everything.

21 After that one, the king of Sod′om tell A′bram say: “Give me the people,* but take the things for yourself.” 22 But A′bram tell the king of Sod′om say: “I raise my hand to make promise to Jehovah the God Wey High Pass, wey make heaven and earth, 23 say I no go take anything wey be your own, from thread go reach rope for sandal, so that you no go talk say, ‘Na me make A′bram rich.’ 24 I no go take anything except wetin the young men don already chop. As for the men wey go with me, A′ner, Esh′col, and Mam′re, make them take their share.”

15 After that one, Jehovah tell A′bram for vision say: “Make you no fear A′bram, I go protect you.* Your reward go really big.” 2 A′bram answer say: “Jehovah the Lord Wey High Pass, wetin you go give me as I dey like this wey I no get pikin, and the person wey go inherit my house na E·li·e′zer, man from Damascus?” 3 A′bram still talk say: “You no give me any pikin,* and one person* for my house go inherit my property.” 4 But see! The answer wey Jehovah give-am na, “This man no go inherit your property, but na your own son* go inherit your property.”

5 So e bring A′bram outside and talk say: “Abeg, look up for heaven and count the stars, if you fit count them.” Then e tell-am say: “Na so your children* go be.” 6 And A′bram put faith for Jehovah, and E see* A′bram as righteous person. 7 E still talk say: “I be Jehovah wey bring you come out from Ur, the land of Chal·deʹa people, to give you this land as your own.” 8 So e talk say: “Jehovah the Lord Wey High Pass, wetin go make me know say I go get this land as my own?” 9 Then e tell-am say: “Take one bull wey dey three years for me, together with one female goat wey dey three years, one ram wey dey three years, one turtledove, and one young pigeon.” 10 So e take all of them and cut them into two parts, and put each part opposite the other part,* but e no cut the birds. 11 So birds wey de chop flesh start to come down to chop the dead body of the animals, but A′bram continue to drive them comot.

12 When sun want start to come down, deep sleep carry A′bram and one serious darkness wey make-am fear cover-am. 13 Then E tell A′bram say: “Make you know for sure say your children* go be strangers for one land wey no be their own, and the people for there go make them slave and suffer them for 400 years. 14 But I go judge the nation wey them go serve as slave, and after, them go comot with plenty better things. 15 As for you, you go die with peace of mind and them go bury you with your papa-papa them, after you don live better long life. 16 But your great-grandchildren go come back here, because the time to punish Am′or·ite people for their sin never reach.”

17 When the sun don come down and everywhere don really dark, one big fire wey de burn with smoke appear, and one stick wey get fire pass between the pieces of meat. 18 For that day, Jehovah make agreement with A′bram say: “I go give this land to your children,* from the river of Egypt go reach the great river, River Eu·phra′tes: 19 the land of Ken′ite people, Keʹnaz people, Kad′mon·ite people, 20 Hitʹtite people, Per′iz·zite people, Reph′a·im people, 21 Am′or·ite people, Ca′naan people, Gir′gash people, and Jeʹbus people.”

16 Now Sar′ai wey be the wife of A′bram no born any pikin for-am, but e get one servant from Egypt wey im name na Ha′gar. 2 So Sar′ai tell A′bram say: “Abeg hear wetin I want talk! Jehovah never allow me to get children. Abeg, sleep with my servant. Maybe I fit get children from-am.” So A′bram listen to wetin Sar′ai talk. 3 After A′bram don live for ten years for the land of Ca′naan, Sar′ai wey be the wife of A′bram take Ha′gar im servant wey come from Egypt and give-am to A′bram im husband as im wife. 4 So e sleep with Ha′gar and Ha′gar get belle. When Ha′gar know say e don get belle, e start to treat im madam anyhow.

5 So Sar′ai tell A′bram say: “This suffer wey I de suffer na your fault. Na me give you my servant. But when e know say e don get belle, e start to treat me anyhow. Make Jehovah judge between me and you.” 6 So A′bram tell Sar′ai say: “See! Your servant dey under you. Do anything wey you think say good for your eye.” Then Sar′ai disgrace Ha′gar, and Ha′gar run comot from im house.

7 After, the angel of Jehovah meet-am for one place wey water de come out from ground for wilderness. This place dey the road wey them de pass go Shur. 8 And e talk say: “Ha′gar, servant of Sar′ai, where you de come from and where you de go?” So e talk say: “I de run from my madam Sar′ai.” 9 So the angel of Jehovah tell-am say: “Go back to your madam and put yourself under-am.” 10 Then the angel of Jehovah talk say: “I go make your children really plenty, and them go overplenty sotey person no go fit count them.” 11 The angel of Jehovah still talk say: “See you get belle, and you go born boy, and the name wey you go give-am na Ish′ma·el,* because Jehovah don hear the cry wey you de cry because of your suffer. 12 E go be man wey be like bush donkey.* E* go dey against everybody and everybody* go dey against-am. And e go live opposite all im brothers.”*

13 Then Ha′gar call the name of Jehovah wey be de talk to-am say: “You be God wey de really see,” because e talk say: “I don really see the person wey de see me for here?” 14 Na because of this one them call the well Be′er-la′hai-roi.* (E dey between Ka′desh and Be′red.) 15 So Ha′gar born boy for A′bram, and the name wey A′bram give this im boy wey Ha′gar born, na Ish′ma·el. 16 A′bram dey 86 years when Ha′gar born Ish′ma·el for-am.

17 When A′bram dey 99 years, Jehovah appear to A′bram and tell-am say: “I be God Almighty. Make you de do wetin I want,* and show say you be person wey them no fit talk bad about.* 2 I go do as I don talk for my agreement between me and you, and I go give you plenty-plenty children.”

3 So A′bram kneel down and bow face ground, and God continue to tell-am say: 4 “As for me, see! I don make my agreement with you, and you go surely be papa of many nations. 5 Your name no go be A′bram* again, your name go be Abraham,* because I go make you papa of many nations. 6 I go make you get plenty-plenty children, and I go make you be nations. Kings go come from you.

7 “And I go do wetin I don talk for my agreement between me and you and your children* wey go come after you, from generation to generation. This one na everlasting agreement, to be God for you and for your children* wey go come after you. 8 And I go give you and your children* wey go come after you the land wey you don live for inside as stranger, the whole land of Ca′naan. E go be una own forever, and I go be their God.”

9 God still tell Abraham say: “As for you, make you follow my agreement, you and your children* wey go come after you from generation to generation. 10 This one na my agreement between me and you, wey you and your children* wey go come after you go follow: Every man wey dey among una must circumcise. 11 Una must circumcise una body* and e go be sign of the agreement between me and una. 12 For all una generation, una must circumcise every man wey dey among una, wey don reach eight days from when them born-am, anybody wey them born for your house and anybody wey no be one of your children* and wey them buy with money from stranger. 13 Every man wey them born for your house, and every man wey you buy with your money must circumcise, and my agreement wey be sign for una flesh na agreement wey go last. 14 If any man wey never circumcise no circumcise the body,* una must kill* that person* comot from im people. E don break my agreement.”

15 Then God tell Abraham say: “As for your wife Sar′ai,* make you no call-am Sar′ai again, because na Sarah* go be im name. 16 I go bless-am and still give you one son from-am. I go bless-am and e go be nations; kings* go come from-am.” 17 So Abraham kneel down and bow face ground and start to laugh and to talk for im heart say: “Man wey don reach 100 years go fit still get pikin, and Sarah, woman wey don reach 90 years go fit born?”

18 So Abraham tell the true God say: “O abeg, make you bless Ish′ma·el!” 19 With that one, God talk say: “Your wife Sarah go surely born boy, and you go call-am Isaac.* Wetin I talk for my agreement, I go do for-am, and na agreement wey go last forever for im children* wey go come after-am. 20 But as for Ish′ma·el, I don hear wetin you talk. See! I go bless-am and I go make-am get plenty-plenty children and them go spread no be small. E go get 12 sons wey go be chiefs and I go make-am to be big* nation. 21 But wetin I talk for my agreement, I go do-am with Isaac, wey Sarah go born for you for this same time next year.”

22 When God talk with Abraham finish, e leave-am comot.* 23 So Abraham take Ish′ma·el im son and all the men wey them born for im house and everybody wey e don buy with money, every man for the house of Abraham, and e circumcise them* that same day, just as God don tell-am. 24 Abraham dey 99 years when e circumcise.* 25 And Ish′ma·el im son dey 13 years when them circumcise-am.* 26 Na that day Abraham and im son Ish′ma·el circumcise. 27 All the men for im house, anybody wey them born for the house, and anybody wey them buy with money from stranger, all of them still circumcise together with-am.

18 After, Jehovah appear to Abraham for where the big trees of Mam′re dey when e sitdown for the domot of the tent for the time of the day when the sun really hot pass. 2 E raise im head and see three men wey stand, and where them stand no too far from the place wey e dey. When e see them, e run from the domot of the tent go meet them and e bow for ground. 3 Then e talk say: “Jehovah, if I don do wetin sweet you,* abeg make you no just pass your servant like that. 4 Abeg, make them bring small water to wash una leg, and make una rest under the tree. 5 As e be say una don come here to meet una servant, make I bring small bread for una, so that una power go come back again,* then una fit continue una journey.” With this one, them talk say: “Okay, you fit do as you don talk.”

6 So Abraham hurry go meet Sarah for the tent, and talk say: “Quick-quick! Take three containers* of better flour,* mix the flour and use-am make bread.” 7 Abraham come run go where the animals dey, and e choose one soft better young bull, e give-am to im servant wey hurry go prepare-am. 8 Then e take butter and milk, and the young bull wey e don prepare, and put the food for their front. Then e stand near them under the tree as them de chop.

9 Them tell-am say: “Where your wife Sarah?” E talk say: “E dey here for inside tent.” 10 So one of them continue to talk say: “This time next year, I go surely come back come meet you, and see! your wife Sarah go born boy.” Now Sarah de listen for the domot of the tent wey dey back of the man. 11 Abraham and Sarah don old, them don really old. Sarah don pass the age wey woman de born pikin.* 12 So Sarah start to laugh for inside im heart and de talk say: “After old age don finish me, and my lord don old, I go really get this joy?” 13 Then Jehovah tell Abraham say: “Why Sarah laugh and talk say, ‘I go really fit born pikin even as I don old?’ 14 Anything too big for Jehovah to do? This same time next year, I go come back come meet you, and Sarah go born boy.” 15 But Sarah deny-am and talk say, “I no laugh!” na because e de fear. So e talk say: “Yes! You laugh.”

16 When the men get up de comot, them look down for where Sod′om dey. That time, Abraham de waka with them to escort them. 17 Jehovah talk say: “Why I go hide wetin I want do from Abraham? 18 After all, for sure, Abraham go be big* and strong nation, and I go bless all the nations for the earth* because of-am. 19 Because I don know Abraham, I dey sure say e go fit command im sons, and im family wey go come after-am make them continue to follow the way of Jehovah and de do wetin good and correct, so that Jehovah fit do wetin e don promise Abraham.”

20 Then Jehovah talk say: “The complain against Sod′om and Go·mor′rah don really too much, and their sin really dey heavy. 21 I go go down go see whether them de do the things wey I don hear wey people de complain against them, and if them no de do-am, I go know.”

22 Then the men comot from there and de waka go the side wey Sod′om dey, but Jehovah dey there with Abraham. 23 Then Abraham go near God and talk say: “You go really destroy righteous people together with wicked people? 24 What if na 50 righteous people dey the city, you go still destroy them and no forgive the people for the place because of the 50 righteous people wey dey inside there? 25 You no go fit ever do this kind thing, to destroy righteous person together with wicked person, so that the righteous person and the wicked person go end for the same way! You no go fit ever do like that. The Judge of the whole earth no go do wetin correct?” 26 Then Jehovah talk say: “If I see 50 righteous people for the city of Sod′om, I go forgive the people for the whole place because of them.” 27 But Abraham still talk say: “Abeg Jehovah, allow me make I talk more, even though say I be nothing.* 28 What if 5 people reduce from the 50 righteous people, you go destroy the whole city because of the 5 people?” So e answer say: “I no go destroy-am if I see 45 people for there.”

29 But Abraham still tell-am again say: “What if na 40 people you see for there?” E answer say: “I no go do-am because of the 40 people.” 30 But e continue to talk say: “Jehovah, abeg, make you no vex, but allow me make I continue to talk: What if na only 30 people you see for there?” E answer say: “I no go do-am if I see 30 people for there.” 31 But e continue to talk say: “Abeg, Jehovah, allow me make I talk more. What if na only 20 people you see for there?” E answer say: “I no go destroy-am because of the 20 people.” 32 At last e talk say: “Abeg Jehovah, make you no vex, but allow me make I talk just one more time: What if na only ten people you see for there?” E answer say: “I no go destroy-am because of the ten people.” 33 When Jehovah talk with Abraham finish, e comot from there, and Abraham go back to im house.

19 The two angels reach Sod′om for evening, and Lot sitdown for the gate of Sod′om. When Lot see them, e get up go meet them and bow down im head for ground. 2 And e talk say: “Abeg my lord them, abeg, make una come inside the house of una servant and stay with us this night, and make them wash una leg, then una fit get up early morning and go where una de go.” So them talk say: “No, we go sleep for the public place for the city.” 3 But e continue to really beg them sotey them go im house with-am. Then e prepare better food for them and e bake bread wey no get yeast, and them chop.

4 Before them fit lie down to sleep, the men of the city—the men of Sod′om from boy to old man, all of them—gather together surround the house. 5 And them continue to call Lot and de tell-am say: “Where the men wey come your house this night? Bring them come outside for us so that we fit sleep with them.”

6 Then Lot come outside go meet them for the domot, and e close the door as e come outside. 7 E talk say: “Abeg, my brothers, make una no do this kind wicked thing. 8 Abeg, see, I get two daughters wey never sleep with man, abeg make I bring them come outside for una so that una go do them anything wey good for una eye. But make una no do this men anything, because them be visitors for my house wey I must protect.”* 9 With this one them talk say: “Comot for road!” And them still talk say: “See this stranger wey come live for here and e even de try to judge us! Now the thing wey we go do you go worse pass wetin we go do them.” And them gather de push Lot and de go near the door to break-am. 10 So the men* stretch their hand outside and drag Lot enter inside the house with them, and them close the door. 11 But them make the men wey dey for the domot of the house blind, from the one wey small pass go reach the one wey big pass, sotey them tire as them de try to find where the door dey.

12 Then the men tell Lot say: “Any of your person still dey here? Son-in-law them, your sons, your daughters, and all your people for the city, carry them comot from this place! 13 We go destroy this place, because the complain against them don really too much* for Jehovah eyes, sotey Jehovah send us make we destroy the city.” 14 So Lot go outside and start to talk to im son-in-law them wey want marry im daughters, and e continue to tell them say: “Get up! Make una comot from this place because Jehovah go destroy the city!” But im son-in-law them see-am like person wey de joke.

15 As day de break, the angels start to make Lot hurry and de talk say: “Get up! Take your wife and your two daughters wey dey here with you, so that God no go destroy you with the city because of their sin!” 16 When e continue to delay, and because Jehovah de really feel for-am, the men hold im hand and the hand of im wife and the hands of im two daughters, and them bring-am come outside and leave-am for outside the city. 17 As them just bring them come outside the city, e talk say: “Run for your life!* Make you no look back and make you no stand for any part of the area! Run go the place where mountains dey so that you no go die!”

18 Then Lot tell them say: “Abeg Jehovah, make e no be that place! 19 Abeg, your servant don do wetin sweet you* and you don really dey kind to me* as you save me,* but I no fit run go the place where mountains dey because I de fear say bad thing fit happen to me and I go die. 20 So abeg, this town near here and I fit run go there, na just small place. Abeg, I fit run go there? Na just small place, then I go survive.”* 21 So e tell-am say: “Okay, I go still dey kind to you, and I no go destroy the town wey you talk about. 22 Hurry! Run go there, because I no go fit do anything until you reach there!” Na because of this one e call the town Zo′ar.*

23 Sun don come out for the land when Lot reach Zo′ar. 24 Then Jehovah make sulfur and fire to fall like rain for Sod′om and Go·mor′rah—e come from Jehovah, from the heavens. 25 So e destroy this cities, yes, the whole area, and all the people wey de live for the cities together with the plants wey de grow for there. 26 But the wife of Lot dey im back. E start to look back, then e turn to pillar of salt.

27 Now Abraham get up for early morning and e go the place where e be stand for front of Jehovah. 28 When e look down face Sod′om and Go·mor′rah and all the land for the area, wetin e see no be small thing. Thick smoke de go up from the land like thick smoke wey de come out from big oven!* 29 When God destroy the cities for the area, God remember Abraham, so e carry Lot comot from the cities wey e destroy, the cities wey Lot be de live for inside.

30 After, Lot comot from Zo′ar with im two daughters and go up, and start to live for the place where mountains dey, because e be de fear to live for Zo′ar. So e start to live for inside cave with im two daughters. 31 And the firstborn tell im junior sister say: “Our papa don old and no man dey for the land to sleep with us as people de do for the whole earth. 32 Come, make we give our papa wine to drink, and make we sleep with-am and get children from our papa.”

33 So that night, them continue to give their papa wine to drink; then the firstborn go inside and sleep with im papa, but im papa no know when e sleep with-am and when e get up. 34 Then the next day, the firstborn tell im junior sister say: “See I don sleep with my papa last night. Make we still give-am wine to drink this night. Then you go go inside and sleep with-am and make we get children from our papa.” 35 So that night too, them continue to give their papa wine to drink. Then the junior one go sleep with-am, but e no know when e sleep with-am and when e get up. 36 So the two daughters of Lot get belle as them sleep with their papa. 37 The firstborn born one boy and call-am Mo′ab. Na im be the papa-papa of Mo′ab people today. 38 The junior one still born boy and e call-am Ben-am′mi. Na im be the papa-papa of Amʹmon people today.

20 Now Abraham move im tent comot from there, and go the land of Neg′eb and start to live between Ka′desh and Shur. As e de live* for Ge′rar, 2 Abraham still talk wetin e don talk about im wife Sarah say: “Na my sister e be.” So A·bim′e·lech king of Ge′rar send message to bring Sarah and e take-am. 3 After, for night, God come meet A·bim′e·lech for dream and tell-am say: “You go die because of the woman wey you don take. Because this woman don marry, and na another man get-am.” 4 But A·bim′e·lech never touch-am,* so e talk say: “Jehovah, you go kill nation wey no really do anything?* 5 No be Abraham tell me say, ‘Na my sister e be,’ and no be Sarah tell me say, ‘Na my brother e be’? I no carry any bad thing for heart do wetin I do and my hand clean.” 6 Then the true God tell-am for dream say: “I know say you no carry any bad thing for mind do wetin you do, so I stop you make you no sin against me. Na because of this one I no allow you touch-am. 7 Now, give the man im wife back, because the man na prophet and e go pray for you, and you go continue to live. But if you no give-am back, know say you go surely die, you and all your people.”

8 A·bim′e·lech wake up for early morning and call all im servants and tell them all this things, and them really fear. 9 Then A·bim′e·lech call Abraham and tell-am say: “Wetin be this thing wey you do us? Which sin I commit against you wey you want bring this kind serious sin ontop me and my kingdom? Wetin you do me no good.” 10 And A·bim′e·lech still ask Abraham say: “Wetin you get for mind when you do this thing?” 11 Abraham talk say: “Na because I tell myself say, ‘True-true, them no de fear God for this place, and them go kill me because of my wife.’ 12 And too, Sarah na really my sister, na the same papa born us, but no be the same mama, and e come be my wife. 13 So when God tell me to comot from my papa house and travel from place to place, I tell Sarah say: ‘Make this one be how you go show say the love wey you get for me no de fail: Everywhere wey we go, talk about me say, “Na my brother e be.”’”

14 So A·bim′e·lech carry sheep, cows, man and woman servants, and give them to Abraham, and e give back im wife Sarah to-am. 15 A·bim′e·lech still talk say: “See my land. You fit live anywhere wey you like.” 16 And e tell Sarah say: “I give 1,000 pieces of silver to your brother. This one na sign to show say your hand dey clean,* for all the people wey dey with you and for everybody, and to clear your name from blame.” 17 And Abraham start to pray to the true God, and God cure A·bim′e·lech and im wife and im slave girls, and them start to born children, 18 because Jehovah don make all the women for the house of A·bim′e·lech no fit born* because of Sarah, the wife of Abraham.

21 Jehovah remember Sarah just as e don talk, and Jehovah do wetin e don promise about Sarah. 2 So Sarah get belle and e born one son for Abraham when e don old, for the correct time wey God don promise Abraham. 3 The name wey Abraham give im new pikin wey Sarah just born for-am na Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcise im son Isaac when e reach eight days, just as God don command-am. 5 Abraham dey 100 years when them born im pikin Isaac for-am. 6 Then Sarah talk say: “God don put laugh for my mouth. Everybody wey hear wetin happen go laugh with me.”* 7 And e still talk say: “Who for tell Abraham say, ‘Sarah go surely born children’? But, I don born one son for-am when e don old.”

8 Now, the pikin grow and Sarah stop to give-am breast, and Abraham do one big party for the day wey Isaac stop to suck breast. 9 But Sarah continue to notice say the son wey Ha′gar the woman from Egypt born for Abraham, de laugh Isaac. 10 So e tell Abraham say: “Drive this slave girl and im son comot, because the son of this slave girl no go inherit your property together with my son Isaac!” 11 But wetin Sarah talk about Abraham son Ishʹma·el really worry Abraham. 12 Then God tell Abraham say: “No allow the thing wey Sarah talk about the boy and about your slave girl to worry you. Listen to-am,* because the people wey them go call your children* go come from Isaac. 13 As for the son wey the slave girl born for you, I go still form one nation from im own children, because na your pikin.”*

14 So Abraham get up for early morning, e take bread and skin bottle wey water dey inside, and give-am to Ha′gar. E put this things for Ha′gar shoulder and tell-am make e de go with the boy. So Ha′gar comot and start to waka from place to place, for wilderness of Be′er-she′ba. 15 At last, the water inside the skin bottle finish, and Ha′gar push the boy under one tree inside bush. 16 Then e comot go sitdown alone for one place wey far small from where the boy dey, because e talk say: “I no want see when the boy go die.” So e sitdown for one place wey far small and start to cry loud and de shout.

17 And then God hear the voice of the boy, and the angel of God call Ha′gar from the heavens and tell-am say: “Ha′gar, wetin de happen to you? Make you no fear, because God don hear the voice of the boy for where e dey. 18 Get up, help the boy make e stand up and hold-am with your hand because I go make-am to be big* nation.” 19 Then God open Ha′gar eyes and e see one well wey water dey, and e go there and fill the skin bottle with water, and give the boy water to drink. 20 And God dey with the boy as e de grow. E live for wilderness and become person wey sabi shoot arrow. 21 E comot go de live for wilderness for Pa′ran, and im mama bring wife for-am from the land of Egypt.

22 That time, A·bim′e·lech together with Phi′col wey de control im army tell Abraham say: “God dey with you for everything wey you de do. 23 So now, swear to me here with the name of God say you no go cheat me and my children and my children-children and say you go show me and the land wey you don de stay the same love wey no de fail wey I don show you.” 24 So Abraham say: “I swear.”

25 But, Abraham complain to A·bim′e·lech about the well of water wey the servants of A·bim′e·lech don collect by force. 26 A·bim′e·lech answer say: “I no know who do this thing. You no tell me about-am, and I no hear anything about-am until today.” 27 With this one, Abraham take sheep and cows, and give them to A·bim′e·lech, and the two of them make agreement. 28 When Abraham separate seven small-small female sheep from the rest of the animals, 29 A·bim′e·lech tell Abraham say: “Why you separate this seven small-small female sheep, and keep them for here?” 30 Then e talk say: “Make you collect the seven small-small female sheep from my hand as proof to show say na me dig this well.” 31 Na the reason why e call that place Be′er-she′ba,* because na for there two of them swear. 32 So them make agreement for Be′er-she′ba, after that one, A·bim′e·lech get up together with Phi′col wey de control im army, and them go back to the land of Phi·lisʹti·a people. 33 After that one, e plant tamarisk tree for Be′er-she′ba, and for there, e call the name of Jehovah, the God wey de live forever. 34 And Abraham stay* for the land of Phi·lisʹti·a people for long time.*

22 Now after this one, the true God test Abraham, and e call-am say: “Abraham!” Then e answer say: “Na me be this!” 2 Then e talk say: “Abeg, take your son, your only son wey you really love, Isaac, and travel go the land of Mo·ri′ah, and use-am do sacrifice wey them burn with fire for there, for one of the mountains wey I go show you.”

3 So Abraham get up for early morning, and ready im donkey and take two of im servants with-am, and im son Isaac. E divide the wood wey them go use do sacrifice wey them burn with fire, and then e start to travel go the place wey the true God tell-am make e go. 4 For the third day, Abraham raise im head and see the place from far. 5 So Abraham tell im servants say: “Make una stay here with the donkey, but me and the boy go go that side and worship God, then we go come back come meet una.”

6 So Abraham take the wood wey them want use do sacrifice wey them burn with fire and e put-am ontop im son Isaac to carry. Then e use im hand carry the fire* and the knife,* and the two of them continue to waka de go together. 7 Then Isaac tell im papa Abraham say: “Papa!” E answer say: “Yes, my pikin!” So e continue to talk say: “The fire and the wood dey here, but where the sheep wey we want use do sacrifice wey them burn with fire?” 8 With this one, Abraham talk say: “My pikin, na God go provide the sheep wey we go use do sacrifice wey them burn with fire.” And the two of them continue to waka de go together.

9 At last, them reach the place wey the true God tell-am make e go, and Abraham build altar for there, and arrange the wood ontop. E tie the hand and leg of im pikin Isaac, and put-am ontop the altar for ontop the wood. 10 Then Abraham stretch im hand and collect the knife* to kill im son. 11 But the angel of Jehovah call-am from the heavens and talk say: “Abraham, Abraham!” So e answer say: “Na me be this!” 12 Then e talk say: “Make you no kill the boy and make you no do anything to-am at all, because now I don know say you de fear God, because you no hold your son back from me, your only son.” 13 So Abraham raise im head and just for im front, e see one ram wey im horns hook for inside one small tree. So Abraham go, e take the ram and e use-am do sacrifice wey them burn with fire instead of im son. 14 And Abraham call the name of the place Je·ho′vah-ji′reh.* Na because of this one them still de talk today say: “For the mountain of Jehovah, e go provide.”

15 And the angel of Jehovah call Abraham the second time from the heavens, 16 say: “Jehovah talk say, ‘I de use myself swear say because you don do this thing, and you no hold your son back, your only son, 17 I go surely bless you, and I go surely make your children* plenty like the stars for the heavens and like the sand wey dey the side of sea, and your pikin* go take the cities* of im enemies as im own. 18 And because of your pikin,* all the nations for the earth go get blessing for theirself because you don listen to my voice.’”

19 After that one, Abraham go back to im servants and them start to go back together to Be′er-she′ba; and Abraham continue to live for Be′er-she′ba.

20 After this one, them tell Abraham say: “See, Mil′cah don still born boys for your brother Na′hor. 21 Im firstborn na Uz, the second one na Buz im brother, Kem·u′el wey be A′ram papa na another one, 22 then Che′sed, Ha′zo, Pil′dash, Jid′laph, and Be·thu′el.” 23 Be·thu′el come be Re·bek′ah papa. Mil′cah born this eight children to Abraham brother wey be Na′hor. 24 Im concubine* wey im name na Reu′mah, still born boys, and them be: Te′bah, Ga′ham, Ta′hash, and Ma′a·cah.

23 And Sarah live for 127 years; na this number of years Sarah live im life. 2 So Sarah die for Kir′i·ath-ar′ba, wey them de call Heb′ron, wey dey the land of Ca′naan. Abraham start to really feel sad and to cry because of Sarah. 3 Then Abraham get up from where the dead body of im wife dey and e tell the sons of Heth say: 4 “I be stranger and I de stay among una. Give me place wey I go use as grave as I dey among una, so that I fit carry my person wey don die go bury.” 5 So the sons of Heth answer Abraham say: 6 “Listen to us, my lord. You dey among us as chief wey God don choose.* You fit bury your person wey don die for any of the place wey you like. Nobody among us go stop you make you no use im place to bury your person.”

7 So Abraham stand up and bow down for the people of the land, for the sons of Heth, 8 and e tell them say: “If una* gree make I carry my person wey don die go bury, then make una listen to me and beg E′phron the son of Zo′har 9 say make e sell the cave of Mach·pe′lah for me, wey be im own; e dey the corner of im land. Make e sell-am to me for una front for the complete amount of silver, so that I fit get place to use as grave.”

10 Now E′phron sitdown for where the sons of Heth dey. So E′phron wey be Hitʹtite person answer Abraham so that the sons of Heth go hear, and for front of everybody wey gather for the gate of the city,* say: 11 “No, my lord! Listen to me. I dash you the land and the cave wey dey there. For front of the sons of my people, I dash you. Bury your person wey don die for there.” 12 So Abraham bow down for front of the people of the land. 13 And e talk to E′phron so that the people go hear, say: “Abeg, listen to me, I go give you the complete amount of silver for the land. Take-am from me, so that I fit bury my person wey don die for there.”

14 Then E′phron answer Abraham say: 15 “My lord, make you listen to me. This land reach 400 silver shekels,* but that one no dey important. So bury your person.” 16 Abraham gree for E′phron and Abraham weigh the amount of silver for E′phron wey e don talk for front of the sons of Heth, wey be 400 silver shekels.* And this one na the same amount wey business people de collect. 17 So the land wey E′phron get for Mach·pe′lah, wey dey for front of Mam′re—the land, the cave wey dey inside, and all the trees wey dey inside the land—them confirm-am say 18 Abraham don buy the place for front of the sons of Heth, for front of everybody wey gather for the gate of the city.* 19 After that one, Abraham bury im wife Sarah for the cave wey dey the land of Mach·pe′lah for front of Mam′re, wey them de call Heb′ron, wey dey the land of Ca′naan. 20 Na so the sons of Heth come give Abraham the land and the cave wey dey inside-am to be im own wey e go use as grave.

24 Now Abraham don old, e don really old, and Jehovah don bless Abraham for everything. 2 Abraham tell im servant, the one wey senior pass for im house, wey de take care of everything wey e get, say: “Abeg, make you really promise me,* 3 and I go make you swear with the name of Jehovah, the God of the heavens and the God of the earth, say you no go take wife for my son from the daughters of Ca′naan people, wey I de live for their place. 4 Instead, you must go my country, and go to my family people, and take wife for my son Isaac.”

5 But the servant tell-am say: “What if the woman no gree follow me come this land? Make I take your son go back to the land wey you come from?” 6 So Abraham tell-am say: “Make sure say you no take my son go there. 7 Jehovah the God of heaven, wey take me from my papa house and from the land of my family people and wey talk to me and swear to me say: ‘I go give this land to your pikin,’* e go send im angel to help you,* and you go surely take wife for my son from there. 8 But if the woman no gree follow you come, you don dey free from the swear wey you don swear, but make you no ever take my son go there.” 9 With that one, the servant promise Abraham* im oga, and e swear to-am about this matter.

10 So the servant take ten camels of im oga, and e go. E still carry all kind of better gifts from im oga. Then e start to go Mes·o·po·ta′mi·a, the city of Na′hor. 11 When e reach one well wey water dey inside, for outside the city, e make the camels kneel down for there to rest. Na around evening time, the time when the women de go out go fetch water. 12 Then e talk say: “Jehovah the God of my oga Abraham, abeg make me succeed today, and show your love wey no de fail to my oga Abraham. 13 See, I de stand near one place wey water de come out from ground, and the daughters of the people for the city de come out to fetch water. 14 Make e be say the young woman wey I go tell say, ‘Abeg bring your clay pot come down, so that I go fit take water drink,’ and wey go tell me say, ‘Take and drink, and I go still give your camels water,’ make this one be the person wey you choose for your servant Isaac. And with this one, I go know say you don show my oga love wey no de fail.”

15 Even before e talk finish, Re·bek′ah the daughter of Be·thu′el, come out with im clay pot ontop im shoulder. Be·thu′el na the son of Mil′cah, and Mil′cah na the wife of Na′hor, wey be Abraham brother. 16 Now the young woman really dey fine no be small, and na virgin, no man don sleep with-am. E go down to the place wey water de come out from. E full im clay pot with water, and then, e go up back. 17 Quick-quick, the servant run go meet-am and talk say: “Abeg, give me small water from your clay pot make I drink.” 18 So e talk say: “My lord, drink.” With that one, quick-quick, e bring im clay pot come down, e hold-am for im hand and give the servant water to drink. 19 When e give-am water to drink finish, e talk say: “I go still fetch water for your camels until them don drink finish.” 20 So quick-quick, e pour all the water from im clay pot inside the place wey them de put water for animals, and e run go the well to fetch water again and again, and e continue to fetch water for all the camels. 21 The whole time, the man dey quiet de look the young woman with surprise, and de wonder whether Jehovah don bless im journey or e never bless-am.

22 When the camels don drink finish, the man give-am one gold nose ring wey the weight na half shekel,* and two gold bangles wey the weight na ten shekels,* 23 and e talk say: “Abeg tell me, which person daughter you be? Room dey your papa house wey we fit sleep this night?” 24 With that one, e tell-am say: “I be the daughter of Be·thu′el, wey be son of Mil′cah, wey Mil′cah born for Na′hor.” 25 And e still talk say: “We get dry grass and plenty animal food, and we still get place wey una fit sleep this night.” 26 Then the man bow down and lie down for ground for front of Jehovah, 27 and talk say: “Make Jehovah get praise, the God of my oga Abraham, because e never stop to show my oga love wey no de fail, and e de always do wetin e promise-am.* Jehovah don guide me reach the family of my oga brothers.”

28 And the young woman run go tell people for im mama house about this things. 29 Now Re·bek′ah get one brother wey im name na La′ban. So La′ban run go meet the man wey dey outside for the place wey water de come out from ground. 30 When e see the nose ring and the bangles wey dey the hands of im sister, and hear the things wey im sister Re·bek′ah don talk say: “This one na wetin the man tell me,” e come meet the man wey still stand near the camels, for the place wey water de come out from. 31 At once e talk say: “Come, you wey Jehovah don bless, why you still de stand here for outside? I don ready the house and place for the camels.” 32 With that one, the man enter inside the house, and e* offload the camels, and give dry grass and animal food to the camels, and water to wash im leg and the leg of the men wey dey with-am. 33 But when them bring wetin e go chop, e talk say: “I no go chop until I don tell you wetin I want talk.” So La′ban talk say: “Make you talk!”

34 Then e talk say: “I be Abraham servant. 35 And Jehovah don really bless my oga no be small, and e don make-am get money well-well as e give-am sheep and cows, silver and gold, man and woman servants, and camels and donkeys. 36 Another thing be say, after Sarah the wife of my oga don old, e born one boy for my oga, and my oga go give-am everything wey e get. 37 So my oga make me swear say: ‘Make you no take wife for my son from the daughters of Ca′naan people, wey I de live for their land. 38 No, but make you go the house of my papa and go meet my family people, and you must bring wife for my son.’ 39 But I ask my oga say: ‘What if the woman no gree follow me come?’ 40 E tell me say: ‘Jehovah, wey I don follow* go send im angel follow you, and e go surely bless your journey, and you must bring wife for my son from my family and from the house of my papa. 41 You go dey free from the swear wey you swear to me, if you go to my family people and them no give you the woman. This one go free you from the swear.’

42 “Today, when I reach the place wey water de come out from ground, I talk say: ‘Jehovah, the God of my oga Abraham, if you go bless my journey, 43 see, I de stand near place wey water de come out from ground. The thing wey go happen be say, when one young woman come fetch water, I go talk say, “Abeg, make I drink small water from your clay pot,” 44 and e go tell me say, “Make you take and drink, and I go still fetch water for your camels.” Make that woman be the person wey Jehovah don choose for the son of my oga.’

45 “Before I talk finish for inside my heart, see, Re·bek′ah de come out with im clay pot ontop im shoulder, and go down to the place wey water de come out from ground, and start to fetch water. Then I tell-am say: ‘Abeg, give me water drink.’ 46 So quick-quick, e bring im clay pot come down from im shoulder and talk say: ‘Take and drink, and I go still give your camels water.’ Then I take-am drink, and e still give the camels water. 47 After that one, I ask-am say, ‘Which person daughter you be?’ So e answer say, ‘I be the daughter of Be·thu′el the son of Na′hor, wey Mil′cah born for-am.’ So I put the ring for im nose, and the bangles for im hands. 48 And I bow down and lie down for ground for front of Jehovah and praise Jehovah the God of my oga Abraham, wey carry me pass the correct road to bring the daughter of my oga brother for im son. 49 And now tell me if you go show my oga love wey no de fail and do wetin e talk.* But if e no go be like that, make you tell me, so that I fit go another way.”*

50 Then La′ban and Be·thu′el answer say: “Na Jehovah direct this matter. E no dey our hand to tell you yes or no.* 51 See Re·bek′ah here for your front. Take-am and go, and make e be wife to your oga pikin, just as Jehovah don talk.” 52 When the servant of Abraham hear wetin them talk, at once e bow down for ground for front of Jehovah. 53 And the servant start to bring out things wey them make with silver and gold, and cloths, then e give them to Re·bek′ah, and e give better-better things to im brother and im mama. 54 After that one, the servant and the men wey dey with-am chop and drink, and them sleep for there that night.

When e get up for morning, e talk say: “Allow me make I go back to my oga.” 55 With this one, im brother and im mama talk say: “Make the young woman stay with us for at least ten days. Then e fit go.” 56 But e tell them say: “Make una no delay me, as e be say Jehovah don bless my journey. Allow me go so that I go fit go meet my oga.” 57 So them talk say: “Make we call the young woman and ask-am.” 58 Them call Re·bek′ah and ask-am say: “You go follow this man go?” E talk say: “I ready to go.”

59 So them allow their sister Re·bek′ah and the woman wey de care for-am,* with Abraham servant and im men, make them go. 60 And them bless Re·bek′ah and tell-am say: “Our sister, make you become* plenty thousands times ten thousand, and make your children* take the cities* of people wey hate them as their own.” 61 Then Re·bek′ah and im woman servants get up, them climb the camels, and follow the man. So the servant take Re·bek′ah and e start to go.

62 Now Isaac don come from the side wey Be′er-la′hai-roi dey, because e be de live for the land of the Neg′eb. 63 And Isaac de waka for outside for the open land around evening time, so that e fit think deep. As e raise im head, e see say camels de come! 64 When Re·bek′ah raise im head, e see Isaac, and quick-quick, e come down from the camel. 65 Then e ask the servant say: “Who be that man wey de waka for the open land to come meet us?” And the servant talk say: “Na my oga.” So Re·bek′ah take cloth cover im face. 66 And the servant tell Isaac all the things wey e don do. 67 After that one, Isaac bring Re·bek′ah come inside the tent of Sarah im mama. So e take Re·bek′ah as im wife, and e start to love-am, and Isaac get comfort after im mama die.

25 Now Abraham marry again, and the name of im wife na Ke·tu′rah. 2 As time de go, e born Zim′ran, Jok′shan, Me′dan, Mid′i·an, Ish′bak, and Shu′ah for Abraham.

3 Jok′shan come be She′ba and De′dan papa.

The sons of De′dan na As·shu′rim, Le·tu′shim, and Le·um′mim.

4 The sons of Mid′i·an na E′phah, E′pher, Ha′noch, A·bi′da, and El·da′ah.

All this ones na the grandsons of Ke·tu′rah.

5 After, Abraham give everything wey e get to Isaac, 6 but Abraham give gifts to im sons wey im concubines* born. Then when e still dey alive, e leave them make them go east side for where them de call the land of the East, far from im son Isaac. 7 The number of years wey Abraham live im life na 175 years. 8 Then Abraham breathe for the last time, and before e die, e live better long life. E old and e happy with im life, and them bury-am just as them bury im people. 9 Im sons wey be Isaac and Ish′ma·el bury-am for the cave wey dey Mach·pe′lah for the land wey E′phron get, wey dey front of Mam′re. E′phron na the son of Zo′har wey be Hitʹtite person. 10 This one na the land wey Abraham buy from the sons of Heth. Na there them bury Abraham with im wife Sarah. 11 After Abraham die, God continue to bless im son Isaac, and Isaac live near Be′er-la′hai-roi.

12 This one na the story about Ish′ma·el, the son of Abraham wey Ha′gar the woman from Egypt, the servant of Sarah, born for Abraham.

13 Now this one na the names of the sons of Ish′ma·el, name by name, according to the family wey them come from. The firstborn of Ish′ma·el na Ne·ba′ioth, then e born Ke′dar, Ad′be·el, Mib′sam, 14 Mish′ma, Du′mah, Mas′sa, 15 Ha′dad, Te′ma, Je′tur, Na′phish, and Ked′e·mah. 16 This one na the sons of Ish′ma·el and this one na their names according to their villages and according to their tents,* 12 chiefs according to their family groups. 17 And Ish′ma·el live for 137 years. Then e breathe for the last time and die, and them bury-am just as them bury im people. 18 And the place wey them start to live na from Hav′i·lah near Shur, wey near Egypt, go reach As·syr′i·a. Them live near all their brothers.*

19 And this one na the story about Isaac the son of Abraham.

Abraham na Isaac papa. 20 Isaac dey 40 years when e marry Re·bek′ah, the daughter of Be·thu′el wey be Aʹram person for Pad′dan-a′ram, and the sister of La′ban wey be Aʹram person. 21 And Isaac continue to beg Jehovah about im wife, because e no fit born, so Jehovah answer im prayer and im wife Re·bek′ah get belle. 22 And the sons wey dey im belle start to push each other up and down, and this one make-am talk say: “If na so e be, why I go continue to live?” So e ask Jehovah about the matter. 23 And Jehovah tell-am say: “Two nations dey inside your belle, and two group of people go separate from inside you, and one of the nation go strong pass the other nation, and the senior one go serve the junior one.”

24 When time reach for Re·bek′ah to born, see! na twins dey inside im belle. 25 When the first one come out, the hair for all im body red. And im body be like cloth wey them make with hair, so them call the pikin E′sau.* 26 After that one, im brother come out and im hand hold the leg* of E′sau. So them call the pikin Jacob.* Isaac dey 60 years when Re·bek′ah born them.

27 As the boys de grow, E′sau come be hunter wey really sabi im work, na person wey like to de stay outside, but Jacob na person wey them no de talk bad about. E de stay for inside tents. 28 And Isaac love E′sau because e de bring bush meat make e chop, but Re·bek′ah love Jacob. 29 One day, Jacob de cook stew when E′sau come back from bush. E′sau don really tire. 30 So E′sau tell Jacob say: “Quick-quick, abeg, give me some of the red stew wey you get for there,* because I don really tire!”* Na this one make im name be E′dom.* 31 So Jacob talk say: “First sell your right as firstborn to me!” 32 And E′sau continue to talk say: “See, na die I de die so! Wetin I want do with the right wey I get as firstborn?” 33 So Jacob still talk say: “First swear!” So e swear to Jacob and sell im right as firstborn to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob give E′sau bread and stew,* and e chop and drink. Then e get up and start to go. Na so E′sau no show say e value im right as firstborn.

26 Now serious hunger dey for the land, and this one na another serious hunger, apart from the one wey first happen for the time of Abraham. So Isaac go meet A·bim′e·lech wey be king of Phi·lisʹti·a people, for Ge′rar. 2 Then Jehovah appear to-am and talk say: “Make you no go down to Egypt. Stay for the land wey I go show you. 3 Make you live as stranger for this land, and I go continue to dey with you and bless you, because na you and your pikin* I go give all this lands, and I go do wetin I don swear say I go do for your papa Abraham: 4 ‘I go make your children* plenty like the stars for the heavens, and I go give your pikin* all this lands, and because of your pikin,* all the nations for the earth go get blessing for theirself,’ 5 I go do this things because Abraham listen to my voice and continue to obey the things wey I want, the things wey I command, the things wey I don direct, and my laws.” 6 So Isaac continue to live for Ge′rar.

7 When the men for the place continue to ask about im wife, e de talk say: “Na my sister.” E de fear to talk say, “Na my wife,” because e talk say, “The men for the place fit kill me because of Re·bek′ah,” because e fine. 8 After some time, A·bim′e·lech wey be king of Phi·lisʹti·a people de look outside from window, and e see Isaac de show love to* Re·bek′ah im wife. 9 Quick-quick, A·bim′e·lech call Isaac and talk say: “This woman na your wife! Why you come talk say, ‘Na my sister’?” So Isaac tell-am say: “I talk like that because I de fear say them fit kill me because of-am.” 10 But A·bim′e·lech still talk say: “Wetin be this thing wey you do us? One of the people for don sleep with your wife just like that, and you for don make us sin!” 11 Then A·bim′e·lech command all the people say: “Them go surely kill anybody wey touch this man and im wife!”

12 And Isaac start to plant seed for that land, and for that year, e harvest times 100 of wetin e plant, because Jehovah de bless-am. 13 So the man get money and things continue to go well for-am until e come get money well-well. 14 So e come get plenty sheep, plenty cows, and plenty servants, and Phi·lisʹti·a people start to get bad belle for-am.

15 So Phi·lisʹti·a people pack sand and use-am cover all the wells wey the servants of im papa don dig when Abraham still dey alive. 16 Then A·bim′e·lech tell Isaac say: “Comot from our area, because you don strong pass us by far.” 17 So Isaac move comot from there and go make im tent for the lowland* of Ge′rar and start to live for there. 18 And Isaac dig the wells again, wey them don dig for the time of im papa Abraham, but wey Phi·lisʹti·a people don cover after Abraham die. E call them the same names wey im papa don call them before.

19 When the servants of Isaac be de dig wells for the lowland,* them see one well wey clean water dey inside. 20 And the shepherds for Ge′rar start to quarrel with the shepherds of Isaac, and de talk say: “Na we get the well!” So e call the well E′sek,* because them quarrel with-am. 21 And them start to dig another well, and them start to quarrel about-am too. So e call-am Sit′nah.* 22 After, e comot from there and dig another well, and them no quarrel about-am, so e call-am Re·ho′both* and talk say: “Na because now Jehovah don give us enough space, and e don make us get plenty children for the land.”

23 Then from there e go up to Be′er-she′ba. 24 That night, Jehovah appear to-am and talk say: “I be the God of your papa Abraham. Make you no fear, because I dey with you, and I go bless you and make your children* plenty because of Abraham my servant.” 25 So e build one altar there and call the name of Jehovah. And Isaac make im tent for there, and im servants dig one well there.

26 After, A·bim′e·lech come meet-am from Ge′rar with A·huz′zath wey im work na to advice A·bim′e·lech, and Phi′col the person wey de control im army. 27 Then, Isaac tell them say: “Wetin make una come see me, as e be say una hate me and drive me comot from una area?” 28 With that one, them talk say: “We don see-am clear say Jehovah dey with you since. So we talk say, ‘Abeg, make we swear to each other, and make agreement with you 29 say you no go do us any bad thing, just as we no do you any bad thing, and as e be say na only good thing we don do to you, as we no fight you when you de comot. We see say Jehovah don bless you.’” 30 Then e prepare better food for them, and them chop and drink. 31 Them get up for early morning, and swear to each other. After that one, Isaac tell them make them travel well, and them no get problem with-am when them comot.

32 That day, the servants of Isaac come tell-am about the well wey them don dig. Them tell-am say: “We don see water!” 33 So e call-am Shi′bah. Na because of this one the name of the city be Be′er-she′ba till today.

34 When E′sau dey 40 years, e marry Ju′dith the daughter of Be·e′ri wey be Hitʹtite person, and e still marry Bas′e·math the daughter of E′lon wey be Hitʹtite person. 35 Them cause serious pain for Isaac and Re·bek′ah.

27 Now when Isaac don old and im eyes don really weak to fit see, e call E′sau im first son and tell-am say: “My son!” E answer say: “See me here!” 2 And e talk say: “I don old. I no know the day wey I go die. 3 So now, abeg, take your things wey you de use hunt, your arrow and your bow, and go inside bush and kill some bush animal for me. 4 Then cook the kind sweet food wey I de like and bring-am for me. Then I go chop-am so that I* go fit bless you before I die.”

5 But, Re·bek′ah de listen as Isaac de talk to E′sau im pikin. E′sau comot go inside bush to kill bush meat and bring-am. 6 Then Re·bek′ah tell im son Jacob say: “I just hear as your papa de talk to your brother E′sau, say, 7 ‘Bring some bush meat for me and cook sweet food for me. Then make I chop so that I fit bless you for front of Jehovah before I die.’ 8 Now, my son, listen well and do wetin I de tell you make you do. 9 Abeg, go the place wey all the animals dey, and bring the best two young goats from there, so that I go use them cook sweet food for your papa, just the way e de like-am. 10 And carry-am go give your papa make e chop so that e fit bless you before e die.”

11 Jacob tell Re·bek′ah im mama say: “E′sau my brother na man wey get hair for body, but my skin smooth. 12 What if my papa touch my body? Then for sure e go be like say I de insult-am, and I go bring curse ontop myself instead of blessing.” 13 So im mama tell-am say: “Make the curse wey suppose follow you, follow me my pikin, just do wetin I say make you do and go, bring them for me.” 14 So e go bring them give im mama, and im mama prepare sweet food just the way im papa de like-am. 15 After that one, Re·bek′ah collect the best cloths wey im senior son E′sau get, wey Re·bek′ah get for inside house, and wear-am for Jacob body wey be im junior pikin. 16 E still put the skins of the young goats ontop im hands and ontop the parts of im neck wey no get hair. 17 Then e give the sweet food and the bread wey e don prepare to im son Jacob.

18 So e go inside to meet im papa and talk say: “My papa!” and e answer say: “See me here! Who you be, my son?” 19 Jacob tell im papa say: “Na me E′sau your firstborn. I don do as you tell me. Abeg, get up, sitdown and chop some of my bush meat so that you* go bless me.” 20 With this one, Isaac tell im pikin say: “My pikin, how come you fit see-am quick like this?” E answer say: “Because na Jehovah your God bring-am to me.” 21 Then Isaac tell Jacob say: “Abeg come near me my pikin, so that I go fit touch you to know whether you really be my son E′sau or you be another person.” 22 So Jacob come near im papa Isaac, and Isaac touch-am, then e talk say: “The voice na the voice of Jacob, but the hands be like E′sau hands.” 23 E no fit know-am because im hands get hair like the hands of im brother E′sau. So e bless-am.

24 After that one, e ask say: “You be my pikin E′sau true-true?” and e answer say: “Yes, na me.” 25 Then e talk say: “My pikin, bring some of the bush meat for me make I chop, then I* go bless you.” With that one, e bring-am to Isaac and e chop, and e give-am wine and e drink. 26 Then Isaac im papa tell-am say: “Abeg come here and kiss me, my pikin.” 27 So e come near and kiss-am, and e smell the scent of im cloths. Then e bless-am and talk say:

“See, the scent of my pikin be like the scent of the bush wey Jehovah don bless. 28 Make the true God give you dew from the heavens and the better soil of the earth and plenty crops and new wine. 29 Make people serve you and make nations bow down for you. Make you be oga for your brothers, and make the sons of your mama bow down for you. Curse go follow everybody wey curse you and blessing go follow everybody wey bless you.”

30 Now as Isaac just bless Jacob finish, and as Jacob just de comot from where im papa Isaac dey, na that time im brother E′sau come back from bush. 31 So E′sau prepare sweet food too and bring-am to im papa, and e tell im papa say: “My papa, make you get up and chop some of your pikin bush meat, so that you* go bless me.” 32 So im papa Isaac tell-am say: “Who you be?” and e answer say: “I be your pikin, your firstborn, E′sau.” 33 Then Isaac start to really shake, so e talk say: “So na who kill bush meat come give me? I don already chop-am before you come, and I bless the person, and e go surely get the blessing!”

34 As E′sau hear wetin im papa talk, e start to cry with loud voice and really dey sad and tell im papa say: “Bless me, my papa, bless me too!” 35 But e talk say: “Your brother come deceive me so that e go fit get the blessing wey suppose be your own.” 36 Then E′sau talk say: “No be why im name be Jacob,* so that e fit take my position this two times? E don already take my right as firstborn, and now e don take my blessing!” E still talk say: “You no keep even one blessing for me?” 37 But Isaac answer E′sau say: “See, I don make-am your oga, and I don give-am all im brothers as im servants, and I don bless-am with grain and new wine to support-am. So my pikin, wetin remain wey I fit give you?”

38 E′sau tell im papa say: “Papa, so even one blessing no dey wey you fit give me? Bless me, my papa, bless me too!” So E′sau shout with loud voice and start to cry no be small. 39 So Isaac im papa answer-am say:

“See, you go live for the part of the earth wey no get better soil, and you no go get the dew from the heavens for up. 40 And na your sword you go use survive, and you go serve your brother. But when you no fit bear-am again, you go get your freedom.”*

41 But E′sau carry vex for mind for Jacob because of the blessing wey im papa don give-am, and E′sau continue to talk for im heart say: “The day wey my papa go die go soon reach.* After that one, I go kill Jacob my brother.” 42 When them tell Re·bek′ah wetin im senior son E′sau want do, quick-quick, e call im junior son Jacob and tell-am say: “See! Your brother E′sau de plan to kill you as pay back.* 43 Now my pikin, do as I talk. Make you ready and run comot go meet my brother La′ban for Ha′ran. 44 Stay with-am for some time, until your brother vex don come down, 45 until your brother don cool down for the vex wey e de vex for you, and e forget wetin you don do-am. Then I go send message make them call you from there. Why I go lose two of una for one day?”

46 After that one, Re·bek′ah continue to tell Isaac say: “My life don tire me because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob ever marry woman from the daughters of Heth wey be like this women wey de live for the land, wetin I de live for?”

28 So Isaac call Jacob and bless-am and command-am say: “Make you no ever marry wife from the women wey dey Ca′naan. 2 Go the house of Be·thu′el, your mama papa, for Pad′dan-a′ram, and marry wife from there for yourself from the daughters of La′ban, your mama brother. 3 God Almighty go bless you and e go make you get plenty children and them go spread, and you go surely be group* of plenty people. 4 And e go give you the blessing wey e promise Abraham, you and your children,* so that you fit take the land wey you don de stay inside as stranger to be your own, the land wey God give Abraham.”

5 So Isaac tell Jacob make e go, and Jacob comot go Pad′dan-a′ram, to La′ban the son of Be·thu′el wey be Aʹram person. La′ban na the brother of Re·bek′ah, wey be the mama of Jacob and E′sau.

6 E′sau see say Isaac don bless Jacob and e don tell-am make e comot go Pad′dan-a′ram to marry wife from there, and say when e bless-am, e command-am say, “Make you no marry wife from the women wey dey Ca′naan,” 7 and say Jacob obey im papa and im mama and comot go Pad′dan-a′ram. 8 Then E′sau come know say im papa Isaac no like the women for Ca′naan. 9 So E′sau go Ish′ma·el family and marry Ma′ha·lath the daughter of Ish′ma·el, wey be Abraham son, join the other wives wey e don already get. Ma′ha·lath na the sister of Ne·ba′ioth.

10 Jacob comot from Be′er-she′ba and continue to go the side wey Ha′ran dey. 11 After some time, e reach one place and plan to sleep there that night because the sun don go down. So e take one of the stones wey dey the place and set-am so that e fit put im head ontop-am, and e lie down for there. 12 Then e dream, and see! steps* dey wey them arrange for the earth, and the top of the steps reach the heavens, and the angels of God de climb go up ontop the steps and de climb come down. 13 And see! Jehovah dey ontop-am, and e talk say:

“I be Jehovah the God of Abraham your papa and the God of Isaac. The land wey you lie down ontop, na you I go give-am to, and your children.* 14 And your children* go surely plenty like sand,* and you go spread far go the west, the east, the north, and the south, and because of you and because of your children* I go surely bless all the families for the earth.* 15 I dey with you, and I go protect you anywhere wey you go, and I go bring you back to this land. I no go leave you until I don do wetin I promise you.”

16 Then Jacob wake up from im sleep and talk say: “True-true Jehovah dey this place, and I no know.” 17 And e start to fear and still talk say: “Oh this place na special place! This one go surely be the house of God, and this one na the gate of the heavens.” 18 So Jacob get up for early morning and take the stone wey e be put im head ontop and e put-am as pillar and pour oil ontop-am. 19 So e call that place Beth′el,* but before, the name of the city na Luz.

20 Then Jacob promise say: “If God go continue to dey with me, and go protect me for my journey, and give me food* to chop and cloths to wear, 21 and I come back safe to the house of my papa, then Jehovah go don surely prove say e be my God. 22 And this stone wey I don put as pillar go be house of God, and I go make sure say I give you the tenth part of everything wey you don give me.”

29 After that one, Jacob continue im journey and start to travel go the land of people wey dey the East. 2 Now e see one well for the land and three groups of sheep lie down near the well, because them de normally give them water from that well. One big stone cover the well. 3 When all the groups of animals don gather for there, them push the stone comot from the well, and them give the animals water. After that one, them push the stone back to cover the well.

4 So Jacob ask them say: “My brothers, which place una come from?” Them answer say: “We come from Ha′ran.” 5 E ask them say: “Una know La′ban the grandson of Na′hor?” Them answer say: “We know-am.” 6 Then e ask them say: “E dey fine?” Them answer say: “E dey fine. And see im daughter Rachel de come with sheep!” 7 Then e talk say: “Sun still de shine,* time never reach to gather the sheep. Give the sheep water, and then, go give them food.” 8 So them talk say: “Them no de allow us do that one, until we gather all the animals and push the stone comot from the well. Then we go give the sheep water.”

9 As e still de talk with them, Rachel bring the sheep of im papa, because Rachel na woman shepherd. 10 When Jacob see Rachel the daughter of La′ban wey be im mama brother, and the sheep of La′ban, quick-quick Jacob go there and push the stone wey cover the well, and e give water to the sheep of La′ban im mama brother. 11 Then Jacob kiss Rachel and shout with loud voice and start to cry. 12 And Jacob start to tell Rachel say e be im papa family person,* and say e be the son of Re·bek′ah. And Rachel run comot go tell im papa.

13 As La′ban just hear about Jacob the son of im sister, e run go meet-am, e embrace-am, kiss-am, and bring-am come inside im house. And e start to tell La′ban all the things wey happen. 14 La′ban tell-am say: “True-true, you be my family member.”* So e stay with-am for one full month.

15 So La′ban tell Jacob say: “Just because you be my family person,* e mean say you go work for me for nothing? Tell me, wetin I go pay you?” 16 Now La′ban get two daughters. The name of the senior one na Le′ah, and the name of the junior one na Rachel. 17 Le′ah no be woman wey fine for face,* but Rachel really dey fine for body and for face. 18 Jacob don love Rachel, so e talk say: “I dey ready to work for you for seven years for your junior daughter Rachel.” 19 So La′ban talk say: “E go better make I give-am to you to marry, instead of me to give-am to another man. Continue to stay with me.” 20 So Jacob work seven years to get Rachel, but for im eye, them just be like some days because of the love wey e get for Rachel.

21 Then Jacob tell La′ban say: “Give me my wife because my days don complete, and make I sleep with-am.” 22 With that one, La′ban gather all the people* wey de live for the area and do party. 23 But for evening, e decide to take im daughter Le′ah and bring-am to Jacob so that e fit sleep with-am. 24 La′ban still give im woman servant wey im name na Zil′pah to im daughter Le′ah as servant. 25 For morning, Jacob see say na Le′ah! So e tell La′ban say: “Wetin you don do me? No be because of Rachel I work for you? Why you deceive me?” 26 Then La′ban talk say: “E no dey our tradition for here make the junior one marry before the firstborn. 27 Make you celebrate the week of this woman, after, I go still give you this other woman, and you go work for me for another seven years.” 28 Jacob do like that and celebrate the week of this woman, then after, La′ban give-am im daughter Rachel as wife. 29 Apart from that one, La′ban give im woman servant wey im name na Bil′hah to im daughter Rachel as im servant.

30 Then Jacob sleep with Rachel too, and e love Rachel pass Le′ah, and e work for La′ban for another seven years. 31 When Jehovah see say Jacob no love Le′ah,* e come make-am get belle,* but Rachel no fit born. 32 So Le′ah get belle and born one boy, and call-am Reu′ben,* because e talk say: “Na because Jehovah don see my suffer, because now my husband go start to love me.” 33 And e get belle again, and born one boy, then e talk say: “Na because Jehovah don hear me, as e be say them no love me, so e still give me this pikin.” Then e call-am Sim′e·on.* 34 So e get belle again, and born one boy and then talk say: “This time my husband go near me now, because I don born three boys for-am.” So, e call-am Le′vi.* 35 And e get belle again, and born one boy. Then e talk say: “This time, I go praise Jehovah.” So e call-am Judah.* After that one, e stop to born.

30 When Rachel see say e no born any pikin for Jacob, e start to jealous im sister and start to tell Jacob say: “Give me children or I go die.” 2 So, Jacob really vex for Rachel and e talk say: “I be God wey make you no fit get children?” 3 So Rachel talk say: “See my slave girl Bil′hah. Make you sleep with-am so that e go fit born children for me* and I go fit get children too because of-am.” 4 So e give-am im servant wey im name na Bil′hah as wife, and Jacob sleep with-am. 5 Bil′hah get belle, and as time de go, e born one boy for Jacob. 6 Then Rachel talk say: “God don be my judge, and e don listen to my voice too, so e give me one son.” Na because of this one Rachel call-am Dan.* 7 Bil′hah wey be Rachel servant get belle again, and after some time, e born second boy for Jacob. 8 Then Rachel talk say: “I don really fight with my sister no be small, and I still don win-am!” So e call the pikin Naph′ta·li.*

9 When Le′ah see say e don stop to born children, e take im servant girl Zil′pah and give-am to Jacob as wife. 10 And Zil′pah wey be servant of Le′ah born boy for Jacob. 11 Then Le′ah talk say: “Things don better for me!” So e call-am Gad.* 12 After that one, Zil′pah wey be servant of Le′ah born second boy for Jacob. 13 Then Le′ah talk say: “I don happy no be small! Now the women go surely talk say I happy.” So e call the pikin Ash′er.*

14 Now Reu′ben de waka for the time when them de harvest wheat, and e see mandrake fruits for farm. So e bring-am come give im mama Le′ah. Then Rachel tell Le′ah say: “Abeg, give me some of your pikin mandrake fruits.”* 15 With this one, Le′ah tell-am say: “My husband wey you collect no reach you? So now you want still collect my pikin mandrake fruits too?” So Rachel talk say: “No problem. E go sleep with you this night if you give me your pikin mandrake fruits.”

16 When Jacob de come back from bush for evening, Le′ah go meet-am and talk say: “Na me you go sleep with because I don surely pay for-am with my pikin mandrake fruits.” So Jacob sleep with-am that night. 17 And God hear and answer Le′ah, and e get belle. As time de go, e born the fifth boy for Jacob. 18 Then Le′ah talk say: “God don pay me because I don give my servant to my husband.” So e call the pikin Is′sa·char.* 19 Le′ah get belle again, and after some time, e born the sixth son for Jacob. 20 Then Le′ah talk say: “God don give me gift. True-true, e give me better gift. At last, my husband go manage me, because I don born six sons for-am.” So e call-am Zeb′u·lun.* 21 After, e born one girl and call-am Di′nah.

22 At last, God remember Rachel, and God hear and answer-am as e make-am to fit get belle.* 23 And e get belle and born one boy. Then e talk say: “God don comot my shame!” 24 So e call-am Joseph,* and talk say: “Now Jehovah de add another son to me.”

25 After Rachel born Joseph, quick-quick, Jacob tell La′ban say: “Allow me make I go, so that I fit go my place and my land. 26 Allow me take my wives and my children so that I fit go. Na because of them I work for you, and you really know say I don work hard for you.” 27 Then La′ban tell-am say: “If I don do wetin sweet you,* abeg, stay with me. I don see signs* wey make me know say Jehovah de bless me because of you.” 28 And e still talk say: “Tell me wetin I go use pay you, and I go pay you.” 29 So Jacob tell-am say: “You know how I don work for you, and how your animals don do well for my hand. 30 Before I come, na small things you get, but now your animals don increase and plenty, and Jehovah don bless you since I come. So which time I go do something for my own family?”

31 Then e talk say: “Wetin I go give you?” And Jacob answer say: “No give me anything at all, I go continue to care for your animals and protect them if you do this one thing for me. 32 I go check all your animals today. Make you separate all the sheep wey get small-small dots and wey get color marks, and separate all the sheep wey get dark brown color from among the young rams. And still separate anyone wey get color marks and small-small dots from among the female goats. From now, na this ones you go use pay me. 33 And one day when you go come check wetin you use pay me, you go see say I no cheat you.* Any animal wey no get small-small dots, and wey no get color marks among the female goats, and wey no get dark brown color among the young rams, if e dey with me make you take-am say na thief I thief-am.”

34 So La′ban talk say: “That one good. Make e be as you don talk-am.” 35 Then that day, e separate the male goats wey get long-long lines and color marks for their body, and all the female goats wey get small-small dots and color marks for their body, any one wey get any white color, and any one wey get dark brown color among the young rams, and e give them to im sons to care for them. 36 After that one, e separate im animals from Jacob and put them for place wey person fit use three days travel reach, and Jacob care for the animals of La′ban wey remain.

37 So Jacob take sticks wey e just cut from storax tree, almond tree and plane tree, and e peel them so that white-white dots go show for the sticks. 38 Then e put the sticks wey e don peel for front of the animals for the place wey them de put water for animals, where the animals de come drink water, so that them fit dey ready to sleep with each other for front of the sticks when them come drink water.

39 So the animals go dey ready to sleep with each other for front of the sticks and the animals go born pikin wey get lines, small-small dots, and color marks for their body. 40 Then Jacob separate the young rams and turn the animals to face the ones wey get lines, and all the ones wey get dark brown color among La′ban animals. Then e separate im own animals, and e no mix them with La′ban animals. 41 And anytime wey the animals wey strong for body dey ready to sleep with each other, Jacob go put the sticks for inside the place wey them de put water for the animals, for front of the animals, for where their eyes go see the sticks, and them fit dey ready to sleep with each other near the sticks. 42 But when the animals dey weak, e no go put the sticks for there. So the weak ones go always be for La′ban, but the ones wey strong go be for Jacob.

43 And the man start to really dey rich no be small, and e get plenty animals and man and woman servants and camels and donkeys.

31 As time de go, Jacob hear wetin the sons of La′ban de talk say: “Jacob don take everything wey our papa get. E don gather all this property from wetin our papa get.” 2 When Jacob look La′ban face, e see say the way e de do things with-am don change. 3 At last, Jehovah tell Jacob say: “Go back to the land of your papa-papa them and your family people, and I go continue to dey with you.” 4 Then Jacob send message to Rachel and Le′ah say make them come outside come meet-am for where e de feed the animals. 5 And e tell them say:

“I don see say the way una papa de do things with me don change, but the God of my papa don dey with me. 6 Una know true-true say I don work for una papa with all my power. 7 And una papa don try to cheat me, and e don change my pay plenty times,* but God no allow-am to do me bad thing. 8 If e talk say, ‘The ones wey get small-small dots for their body go be your pay,’ then all the animals go born pikin wey get small-small dots for their body. But if e talk say, ‘The ones wey get lines for their body go be your pay,’ then all the animals go born pikin wey get lines for their body. 9 So God continue to take animals from your papa and de give them to me. 10 One day when the animals dey ready to sleep with each other, I see for dream say the male goats wey de sleep with the animals get lines, small-small dots, and marks for their body. 11 Then the angel of the true God call me for the dream, ‘Jacob!’ and I answer say, ‘See me here.’ 12 And e continue to talk say: “Look up, abeg, and you go see say all the male goats wey de sleep with the animals get lines, small-small dots and marks for their body, because I don see everything wey La′ban de do you. 13 I be the true God of Beth′el, the place where you pour oil ontop one stone* and where you make promise to me. Now get up, comot from this land, and go back to the land wey them born you.’”

14 Then Rachel and Le′ah answer-am say: “We still get anything to inherit for our papa house? 15 No be as strangers e de see us, since e don sell us and e don de use the money wey them pay for our head? 16 All the property wey God don take from our papa, na we and our children get them. So do everything wey God don tell you make you do.”

17 Then Jacob get up and carry im children and im wives ontop camels, 18 and e start to carry all im animals and all the property wey e don get. The animals wey dey with-am wey e don gather for Pad′dan-a′ram, e carry them de go the land of Ca′naan, where Isaac im papa dey.

19 Now La′ban don go de remove the hair from im sheep, and Rachel thief the idols* wey im papa get. 20 Apart from that one, Jacob use sense for La′ban wey be Aʹram person, because e no tell-am say e de run comot. 21 And e run comot and cross the River* together with everybody and everything wey dey with-am. Then e start to go the area wey mountains dey for Gil′e·ad. 22 When the third day reach, them tell La′ban say Jacob don run comot. 23 So e take im brothers* with-am and pursue Jacob for distance wey reach seven days journey and e reach where Jacob dey for the area wey mountains dey for Gil′e·ad. 24 Then for night, God appear to La′ban wey be Aʹram person for dream, and tell-am say: “Make you dey careful about wetin you want tell Jacob, whether na good thing or bad thing.”*

25 So La′ban meet Jacob, as Jacob don make im tent for the mountain and La′ban don gather with im brothers for the area wey mountains dey for Gil′e·ad. 26 Then La′ban tell Jacob say: “Wetin you don do? Why you don decide to use sense for me and carry my daughters run comot like people wey them catch for war? 27 Why you hide run comot and use sense for me and no tell me? If to say you tell me, I for really happy to sing, play tambourine and harp for you before you go. 28 But you no give me chance to kiss my grandchildren* and my daughters. Wetin you do no make sense. 29 I for fit do una bad thing, but the God of una papa tell me last night say, ‘Dey careful about wetin you want tell Jacob, whether na good thing or bad thing.’ 30 Now you don go because e don de hungry you since to go back to your papa family, but why you thief my gods?”

31 Jacob answer La′ban say: “Na because I de fear, because I tell myself say, ‘You fit collect your daughters from me by force.’ 32 Anybody wey you see your gods with go die. For front of our brothers, check the things wey I get and take wetin be your own.” But Jacob no know say Rachel don thief them. 33 So La′ban enter inside Jacob tent, and inside Le′ah tent, and inside the tents of the two slave girls, but e no see them. Then e come outside from Le′ah tent and enter inside Rachel tent. 34 But Rachel don take the idols and put them inside the seat* wey women de use sitdown ontop camel, and e sitdown ontop them. So La′ban check everywhere inside the tent, but e no see them. 35 Then Rachel tell im papa say: “Make you no vex, my lord, as I no fit get up for your front, because the thing wey de normally do women de do me.”* So e continue to check well, but e no see the idols.

36 Then Jacob start to vex and start to blame La′ban. So Jacob tell La′ban say: “Wetin I do you, and which sin you de vex de pursue me for? 37 Now wey you don check all my property, wetin you see wey be your family own? Bring-am come here for front of my brothers and your brothers, and make them judge between the two of us. 38 For 20 years wey I don dey with you, your sheep and your goat never get belle and the belle comot, and I no ever chop the rams among your animals. 39 I no de carry any of the animals wey bush animals don kill come meet you, na me de pay for-am by myself. Whether them thief the animal for daytime or them thief-am for night, you de make me pay for-am. 40 For daytime, sun go want finish me and cold de catch me for night, and sleep de run comot for my eye. 41 I don dey for your house now for 20 years, I don work for you 14 years for your two daughters and care for your animals for 6 years, and you continue to change my pay plenty times.* 42 If to say the God of my papa, the God of Abraham, and the Person wey Isaac de fear no dey my side, you for don allow me comot with empty hand. God don see my suffer and my hard work, and na because of this one e warn you last night.”

43 Then La′ban answer Jacob say: “The women na my daughters, the children na my children, the animals na my animals, and everything wey you de see na my own and my daughters own. How I go do bad thing to them and their children wey them don born? 44 Now come, make we make agreement, you and me, and e go be proof* between us. 45 So Jacob take one stone and put-am as pillar.” 46 Then Jacob tell im brothers say: “Make una pick stones!” So them pick stones and arrange-am to form heap. After that one, them chop for there ontop the heap of stones. 47 And La′ban start to call-am Je′gar-sa·ha·du′tha,* but Jacob call-am Gal′e·ed.*

48 So La′ban talk say: “This heap of stones na proof* between me and you today.” Na because of this one e call-am Gal′e·ed, 49 and Watchtower,* because e talk say “Make Jehovah continue to watch you and me when we don dey where we no de see each other again. 50 If you treat my daughters anyhow and if you start to marry more women join my daughters, even though say nobody de see us, remember say God go see* you and me.” 51 La′ban continue to tell Jacob say: “See this heap of stones for here and see the pillar wey I don make to show the agreement between me and you. 52 This heap of stones na proof* and the pillar na something wey prove* say I no go cross this heap of stones come do you bad thing, and you no go cross this heap of stones and this pillar to come do me bad thing. 53 Make the God of Abraham and the God of Na′hor, the God of their papa, judge between us.” And Jacob use the Person wey im papa Isaac de fear to swear.

54 After that one, Jacob do sacrifice for the mountain, and tell im brothers make them come chop food.* So them chop and sleep for the mountain when night reach. 55 But La′ban get up for early morning, e kiss im grandchildren* and im daughters, and e bless them. Then La′ban comot and go back house.

32 So Jacob start to go, and the angels of God meet-am. 2 As Jacob just see them, e talk say: “This one na the camp of God!” So e call that place Ma·ha·na′im.*

3 So Jacob send messengers make them dey im front go meet im brother E′sau for the land of Se′ir, for E′dom,* 4 and e command them say: “This one na wetin una go tell my lord E′sau, ‘Na wetin your servant Jacob talk be this: “I don live* with La′ban for long time come reach now. 5 And I don get bulls, donkeys, sheep, and man and woman servants, and I send this message to tell my lord, so that e fit treat me well.”’”*

6 After some time, the messengers come back to Jacob and talk say: “We meet your brother E′sau, and now e de come meet you, and 400 men dey with-am.” 7 And Jacob start to fear well-well and de worry, so e divide the people wey dey with-am together with the sheep, the goats, the cows, and the camels, for two groups. 8 E talk say: “If E′sau attack one group, then the other group go fit run.”

9 After that one, Jacob talk say: “O God of my papa Abraham and God of my papa Isaac, O Jehovah, na you tell me say, ‘Go back to your land and to your family people and I go do you well.’ 10 I no reach to get all the love wey no de fail wey you show me, and all the things wey you don do for your servant just as you promise, because na only my stick I use cross this River Jordan, and now I don be two groups. 11 I de pray say make you save me from the hand of my brother E′sau because I de fear-am say e fit come attack me, and the mama them and their children. 12 And you don talk say: ‘I go surely do you well, and I go make your children plenty like the sand wey dey sea, wey overplenty sotey person no fit count them.’”

13 And e sleep there. Then e take some of im property as gift for E′sau im brother: 14 200 female goats, 20 male goats, 200 female sheep, 20 rams, 15 30 camels wey still de give their pikin breast, 40 cows, 10 bulls, 20 female donkey, and 10 male donkey wey don really mature.

16 And e give them to im servants, group by group, and e tell them say: “Cross go the other side before I cross, and make una give space between one group and the next one.” 17 E still command the first one say: “In case E′sau my brother meet you and ask say, ‘Who be your oga, and where you de go, and who get all this things wey dey your front?’ 18 then make you talk say, ‘Na your servant Jacob. This gift na for my lord E′sau, and see! Jacob de even come for our back.’” 19 And e still command the second one, the third one, and all the people wey de follow the animals say: “Na this same thing una go tell E′sau when una meet-am. 20 And una go still talk say, ‘See, your servant Jacob de come for our back.’” Because e tell imself say: ‘If I make E′sau happy as I send-am gift before I reach there, then when I see-am after, e fit welcome me well.’ 21 So them take the gifts cross go the other side, before Jacob. But Jacob sleep for the camp that night.

22 After, for that night, e stand up and take im two wives, and im two woman servants, and im 11 young sons and pass inside River Jab′bok for the part wey no too deep. 23 So e take them and carry them cross the stream,* and e bring every other thing wey e get.

24 At last, Jacob come dey alone. Then one man start to struggle with-am until daybreak. 25 When the man see say e no fit win Jacob, e touch the joint of im hip, and the joint of Jacob hip shift comot from position when e de struggle with the man. 26 After that one, e talk say: “Allow me make I go, because day don de break.” With that one, Jacob talk say: “I no go allow you go until you bless me.” 27 So e ask-am say: “Wetin be your name?” and e answer say: “Jacob.” 28 Then e talk say: “Your name no go be Jacob again, but e go be Israel,* because you don struggle with God and with people, and you don finally win.” 29 And Jacob talk say: “Abeg, tell me your name.” But, e talk say: “Why you say make I tell you my name?” Then, e bless-am for there. 30 So Jacob call the place Pe·ni′el,* because e talk say, “I don see God face-to-face, but I still dey alive.”*

31 And sun start to come out as Jacob just pass Pe·nu′el,* but e no de waka well because of im hip. 32 Na because of this one come reach today, the sons of Israel no de gree chop the meat around the lap wey dey the hip joint, because the man touch the joint for Jacob hip wey near the lap.

33 Now Jacob look far and see E′sau de come, and 400 men dey with-am. So e divide the children between Le′ah, Rachel, and the two woman servants. 2 E put the woman servants and their children for front, e put Le′ah and im children after them, and e put Rachel and Joseph for their back. 3 Then e go their front and bow down seven times as e de near im brother.

4 But E′sau run go meet-am, and e hug-am and kiss-am, and them start to cry no be small. 5 When e raise im head and see the women and the children, e talk say: “Who be this people wey dey with you?” E answer say: “Na the children wey God don use bless your servant.” 6 So the woman servants come front with their children and bow down, 7 and Le′ah too come front with im children, and them bow down. Then Joseph come front with Rachel, and them bow down.

8 E′sau talk say: “Why you send all this group of people come meet me?” E answer say: “So that my lord go fit treat me well.”* 9 Then E′sau talk say: “I get plenty-plenty property my brother. Just keep your own.” 10 But, Jacob talk say: “No, abeg. If you want do wetin sweet me,* make you accept my gift from my hand, because I bring-am so that I fit see your face. And I don see your face like say na God face I see, as you welcome me well. 11 Abeg, take the gift wey get my blessing wey I bring for you, because God don do me well* and I get everything wey I need.” And e continue to beg-am, sotey e take-am.

12 After, E′sau talk say: “Make we comot de go, and make I dey your front.” 13 But e tell-am say: “My lord know say the children no strong and say I de care for sheep and cows wey get small-small pikin wey still de suck breast. If I carry them travel too fast for one day, then all the animals go die. 14 Abeg, make my lord go first before im servant, but I go continue the journey small-small as my animals and children fit waka reach, until I come meet my lord for Se′ir.” 15 Then E′sau talk say: “Abeg, allow me make I leave some of my people with you.” With this one e talk say: “Why you de worry yourself? I just want do wetin go sweet my lord.”* 16 So that day, E′sau comot go back to Se′ir.

17 And Jacob travel go Suc′coth, and e build one house for imself and e make place them wey im animals fit stay. Na because of this one e call the place Suc′coth.*

18 After Jacob travel from Pad′dan-a′ram, e reach the city of She′chem wey dey the land of Ca′naan, and im journey go well. E come arrange im camp near the city. 19 Then e buy part of the land wey e put im tent from the sons of Ha′mor, wey be She′chem papa, for 100 pieces of silver.* 20 E make one altar for there and call-am God na the God of Israel.

34 Now Di′nah, the daughter of Jacob wey Le′ah born for-am, de always go out to spend time with* the young women of the land. 2 When She′chem, the son of Ha′mor wey be Hi′vite person, wey be chief of the land, see Di′nah, e carry-am and go sleep with-am by force. 3 And e* no fit comot im mind from Di′nah the daughter of Jacob, and e love the young woman and de use sweet mouth for-am.* 4 At last, She′chem tell Ha′mor im papa say: “Try get this young woman for me make e be my wife.”

5 When Jacob hear say She′chem don spoil Di′nah im daughter, im sons dey with im animals for bush that time. So Jacob no talk anything until them come back. 6 After, Ha′mor wey be She′chem papa go talk with Jacob. 7 But the sons of Jacob hear about-am and come back from bush quick-quick. The thing pain them and them really vex because e don disgrace Israel as e sleep with Jacob daughter, something wey no suppose happen.

8 Ha′mor talk with them say: “My son She′chem really want* your daughter. Abeg, give-am to She′chem as im wife, 9 and make marriage agreement with us. Make una allow us de marry una daughters, and una go de marry our daughters. 10 Una fit stay with us, and the land go dey for una. Make una stay, do business for inside, and live for inside.” 11 Then She′chem tell Di′nah papa and im brothers say: “Make una do me well,* and I go give una anything wey una say make I give una. 12 Una fit tell me make I bring bride price wey really high, and gift wey really cost. I dey ready to give una anything wey una say make I give una. Just give me the young woman as wife.”

13 And Jacob sons use their answer deceive She′chem and Ha′mor im papa, because She′chem don spoil Di′nah their sister. 14 Them tell them say: “We no go fit do that kind thing, say make we give our sister to man wey no circumcise,* because that one na disgrace to us. 15 We go only agree if una do this thing: make una be like us and circumcise all una men. 16 Then we go allow una marry our daughters, and we go marry una daughters, and we go stay with una and dey together as one people. 17 But if una no listen to us and circumcise, then we go take our daughter and go.”

18 Ha′mor and im son She′chem like wetin them talk. 19 The young man no waste time to do wetin them say make e do, because e really like Jacob daughter, and na person wey people respect pass for the whole house of im papa.

20 So Ha′mor and im son She′chem go the gate of the city and tell the men of their city say: 21 “This men want make we get peace with them. Make them stay for the land and do business inside, because the land big reach for them to stay inside. We fit marry their daughters, and them fit marry our daughters. 22 Na only this one thing go make the people agree to stay with us, so that we go dey together as one people: make all the men among us circumcise just the way their men circumcise. 23 Then no be we go get their property, their money, and all their animals? So make we agree for wetin them talk so that them go fit stay with us.” 24 Everybody wey de live for the city* listen to Ha′mor and to im son She′chem, and all the men circumcise, everybody wey de live for the city.*

25 But for the third day, when them still de feel the pain, two sons of Jacob wey be Sim′e·on and Le′vi, Di′nah brothers, each of them take their sword enter inside the city when people no suspect, and kill all the men. 26 Them kill Ha′mor and im son She′chem with the sword, and then take Di′nah from She′chem house and comot. 27 The other sons of Jacob come the city where the men wey them don kill dey, pack the better-better things for the city, because them don spoil their sister. 28 Them take their animals, their sheep, their donkeys, and anything wey dey inside the city and for farm. 29 Them still take all their property, catch all their small-small children and their wives, and pack everything wey dey inside their house.

30 So Jacob tell Sim′e·on and Le′vi say: “Una don put big trouble for my head as una don make me to be bad person* for the people of the land, Ca′naan people and Per′iz·zite people. We no plenty, and them go surely gather together to attack me and destroy me finish, me and my family.” 31 But them talk say: “Anybody suppose treat our sister like prostitute?”

35 After that one, God tell Jacob say: “Comot, go up go stay for Beth′el, and make altar for there for the true God wey appear to you before, when you be de run from E′sau your brother.”

2 Then Jacob tell people for im house and everybody wey dey with-am say: “Make una remove* the lie-lie gods* wey dey with una, and clean unaself and change una cloths, 3 and make we comot and go up to Beth′el. I go make one altar for there for the true God wey answer me for the day when I dey for trouble, and wey don dey with me anywhere* wey I don go.” 4 So them give Jacob all the lie-lie gods wey them get and the earrings wey them wear for their ears, and Jacob bury* them under the big tree wey near She′chem.

5 As them de travel de go, the fear from God enter the people of the cities around them, so them no pursue the sons of Jacob. 6 At last, Jacob reach Luz, wey them de call Beth′el, for the land of Ca′naan, Jacob and all the people wey dey with-am. 7 E build one altar for there and call the place El-beth′el,* because na there the true God show imself to-am when e run from im brother. 8 After, Deb′o·rah, wey de care for Re·bek′ah* die, and them bury-am for the down part of the hill wey Beth′el dey, under one oak tree. So e call-am Al′lon-bac′uth.*

9 God appear to Jacob again when e de come from Pad′dan-a′ram and e bless-am. 10 God tell-am say: “Your name na Jacob. But your name no go be Jacob again, na Israel your name go be.” And e start to call-am Israel. 11 God still tell-am say: “I be God Almighty. Make you born children and make them plenty. Nations and group* of nations go come from you, and kings go come from your family.* 12 As for the land wey I don give Abraham and Isaac, I go give-am to you, and I go give the land to your children* wey go come after you.” 13 Then God leave-am go up for the place wey e don talk with-am.

14 So Jacob put pillar for the place where God don talk with-am. Na pillar of stone, and e pour wine offering ontop-am and pour oil ontop-am. 15 And Jacob continue to call the place where God don talk with-am, Beth′el.

16 Then them comot from Beth′el. Na when e still far small before them reach Eph′rath, Rachel start to born and im labor really hard-am. 17 But as e de struggle to born the pikin, the woman wey de help-am born, tell-am say: “No fear, because you go still born this boy.” 18 As im life de go small-small* (because e de die), e call the pikin Ben-o′ni,* but im papa call-am Benjamin.* 19 So Rachel die and them bury-am for the road to Eph′rath, wey them de call Beth′le·hem. 20 Jacob put pillar for im grave; na the pillar of Rachel grave come reach today.

21 After that one, Israel comot for there and make im tent for somewhere after the tall house of E′der. 22 One time when Israel be de live for that land, Reu′ben go sleep with Bil′hah im papa concubine,* and Israel hear about-am.

So Jacob get 12 sons. 23 The sons wey Le′ah born for Jacob na Reu′ben, wey be the firstborn, then Sim′e·on, Le′vi, Judah, Is′sa·char, and Zeb′u·lun. 24 The sons wey Rachel born for Jacob na Joseph and Benjamin. 25 And the sons wey Bil′hah, wey be Rachel servant born for Jacob na Dan and Naph′ta·li. 26 And the sons wey Zil′pah, wey be Le′ah servant born for Jacob na Gad and Ash′er. E reach Kir′i·ath-ar′ba, wey them de call Heb′ron, where Abraham and Isaac be live as strangers. 28 All the years wey Isaac live na 180 years. 29 Then Isaac breathe for the last time and die, and them bury-am just as them bury im people, after e don live long and happy life. Im sons E′sau and Jacob bury-am.

37 Jacob continue to live for the land of Ca′naan, where im papa don stay as stranger.

2 This one na the story about Jacob.

When Joseph dey 17 years, the young man de care for the sheep with the sons of Bil′hah and the sons of Zil′pah, im papa wives. So Joseph come back and tell their papa bad report about them. 3 Now Israel love Joseph pass all im other sons because na the son wey e born when e don old, and e sew one special cloth* for-am. 4 When im brothers see say their papa love-am pass all im brothers, them start to hate-am, and them no de talk to-am for kind way.

5 After, Joseph dream and tell im brothers about-am, and them see more reason to hate-am. 6 E tell them say: “Abeg make una listen to this dream wey I dream. 7 We de tie our bundles of grain together for the middle of the farm when my bundle of grain get up and stand straight and una own surround my own and bow down for-am.” 8 Im brothers tell-am say: “You de tell us say you go make yourself king and rule us?” So them see another reason to hate-am, because of im dreams and wetin e talk.

9 After that one, e still dream another dream, and e tell im brothers about-am say: “I dream another dream. This time, the sun and the moon and 11 stars de bow down for me.” 10 Then e tell im papa and im brothers about-am, and im papa correct-am and tell-am say: “Wetin be the meaning of this your dream? So me, your mama and your brothers go really come and bow down for you?” 11 And im brothers start to jealous-am, but im papa keep wetin e talk for mind.

12 Now im brothers carry their papa sheep go give them food near She′chem. 13 After, Israel tell Joseph say: “Your brothers de care for the sheep near She′chem, no be so? Come, make I send you go meet them.” So e tell-am say: “I dey ready!” 14 So e tell-am say: “Abeg, go, make you check whether your brothers dey well. Make you check how the sheep dey, and come back come tell me.” So e send-am go from the lowland* of Heb′ron, and e start to go where She′chem dey. 15 After, one man see-am as e de waka up and down for bush. The man ask-am say: “Wetin you de find?” 16 So e answer say: “I de find my brothers. Abeg tell me, where them dey, de care for animals?” 17 The man continue to talk say: “Them don comot from here, because I hear them de talk say, ‘Make we go Do′than.’” So Joseph go find im brothers and see them for Do′than.

18 Now them see-am from far, and before e reach where them dey, them start to plan against-am how them go kill-am. 19 So them tell each other say: “See! That boy wey de dream up and down de come. 20 Make una come now, make we kill-am and throw-am inside one of the waterpits and we go talk say na one wicked bush animal kill-am. Then make we see wetin go happen to im dreams.” 21 When Reu′ben hear this one, e try to save-am from their hand. So e talk say: “Make we no kill-am.” 22 Reu′ben tell them say: “Make una no kill-am.* Throw-am inside this waterpit for wilderness. Make una no do-am bad thing.” E be plan to save-am so that e go go give-am back to im papa.

23 As Joseph just come reach where im brothers dey, them remove im cloth, the special cloth wey e wear. 24 And them hold-am and throw-am inside the waterpit. That time the pit dey empty, water no dey inside.

25 Then them sitdown to chop. When them look up, them see group of Ish′ma·el people wey de come from Gil′e·ad. Their camels carry labdanum gum, balsam, and back of tree,* and them dey road de go down to Egypt. 26 So Judah tell im brothers say: “Wetin we go gain if we kill our brother and cover im blood? 27 Now, make una come, make we sell-am to Ish′ma·el people, make e no be say na our hand something happen to-am. Na our brother e still be, na our flesh.” So them listen to their brother. 28 And when the Midʹi·an business people de pass, them carry Joseph comot from inside the waterpit, and sell-am to Ish′ma·el people for 20 pieces of silver. Then this men take Joseph go Egypt.

29 After, when Reu′ben come back to where the waterpit dey and see say Joseph no dey inside the waterpit, e tear im cloths. 30 When e come back to im brothers, e shout say: “The pikin no dey there again! Wetin I go do now?”

31 So them take Joseph cloth and kill male goat, and put the cloth inside the blood. 32 After that one, them send the special cloth to their papa and talk say: “See wetin we see, abeg check-am whether na your pikin cloth or no be im own.” 33 Then e check-am and shout say: “Na my son cloth! One wicked bush animal go don chop-am! E go don surely tear Joseph and pieces-am!” 34 So Jacob tear im cloths and wear sackcloth around im waist and mourn im son for plenty days. 35 And all im sons and all im daughters continue de try make them comfort-am, but e no gree make them comfort-am, and e de talk say: “I go enter Grave* de mourn my son!” And im papa continue to cry for-am.

36 The Midʹi·an people sell-am to Pot′i·phar for Egypt. Pot′i·phar na person wey get high position for Phar′aoh palace, and na im be the oga of the guards.

38 Around that time, Judah leave im brothers, and put im tent near one man wey be A·dul′lam person wey im name na Hi′rah. 2 For there, Judah see the daughter of one Ca′naan person wey im name na Shu′a. So e marry-am and sleep with-am, 3 and e get belle. After, e born boy and Judah name-am Er. 4 E get belle again, and born boy and name-am O′nan. 5 The woman still born another boy and name-am She′lah. E* dey Ach′zib when the woman born the boy.

6 After some time, Judah marry wife for im firstborn Er, and the name of the wife na Ta′mar. 7 But Jehovah no like wetin Er wey be Judah firstborn de do; so Jehovah kill-am. 8 Because of this one, Judah tell O′nan say: “Marry your brother wife and do the things wey you suppose do for-am as im brother-in-law. Sleep with-am so that you go fit born children for your brother.” 9 But O′nan know say them no go see the pikin as im own. So when e de sleep with im brother wife, e de troway im sperm for ground so that e no go born pikin for im brother. 10 Wetin e do bad for Jehovah eyes, so e kill-am too. 11 Judah tell Ta′mar im daughter-in-law say: “Go stay as widow for your papa house until my son She′lah don big,” because Judah tell imself say: ‘She′lah fit die too like im brothers.’ So Ta′mar go stay for im own papa house.

12 After some time don pass, Judah wife, wey be the daughter of Shu′a die. When Judah don complete the time wey e use mourn im wife, e go meet the people wey de remove hair from im sheep body for Tim′nah and e go with im friend Hi′rah wey be A·dul′lam person. 13 Then them tell Ta′mar say: “See, your father-in-law de go Tim′nah go comot hair from im sheep body.” 14 So e comot im widow cloth, and use scarf cover im face, then use cloth cover the up part of im body. E come sitdown for the gate of E·na′im, wey dey the road to Tim′nah, because Ta′mar see say She′lah don grow but them never carry Ta′mar give She′lah to be im wife.

15 When Judah see-am, e just think say na prostitute e be, because the woman cover im face. 16 So e go meet-am for corner of the road and talk say: “Abeg, allow me make I sleep with you,” because e no know say the woman na im daughter-in-law. But the woman ask-am say: “Wetin you go give me so that you go fit sleep with me?” 17 So e tell-am say: “I go give you one young goat from my animals.” But the woman ask-am say: “You go give me something as proof say you go send the goat?” 18 Then e ask-am say: “Wetin you want make I give you as proof?” The woman come talk say: “Give me your special ring, your rope and your walking stick wey you hold for hand.” Then e carry them give the woman and sleep with-am, and the woman get belle for-am. 19 After that one, Ta′mar stand up and comot. Then e remove the cloth wey im use cover the up part of im body, and wear the cloths wey e de wear as widow.

20 Judah give the young goat to im friend wey be the A·dul′lam person say make e go give the woman so that e go take back the things wey e give-am as proof, but the man no see the woman. 21 E ask the men wey dey the area say: “Where that temple prostitute wey de dey road for E·na′im?” But them tell-am say: “No temple prostitute don ever dey for this place.” 22 At last, e go back go meet Judah and tell-am say: “I no see-am. Apart from that one, the men for the area talk say, ‘No temple prostitute don ever dey for this place.’” 23 So Judah talk say: “Make the woman keep the things wey e don collect, so that we no go disgrace ourself. After all, I send the young goat, but you no see the woman.”

24 But after about three months, them tell Judah say: “Your daughter-in-law Ta′mar don go sleep with man as prostitute, and e don get belle.” So Judah talk say: “Make una bring-am come out make them burn-am.” 25 As them de bring-am come out, e send message to im father-in-law say: “Na the man wey get this things give me belle.” E still talk say: “Abeg check this things and see who get them, the special ring, the rope, and the walking stick.” 26 Then Judah check the things and talk say: “E dey righteous pass me, because I no give-am to She′lah my son.” And after that one, Judah no sleep with-am again.

27 When the time reach for-am to born, them see say na twins dey inside im belle. 28 As e de born, one of the twins bring out im hand. Quick-quick, the woman wey de help-am born carry red thread, tie-am for the pikin hand and talk say: “Na this one first come out.” 29 But as e just draw im hand go back, im brother come out, and the woman shout say: “See how you don force yourself come out!” So them name-am Pe′rez.* 30 After, im brother wey them tie red thread for im hand come out, them come name-am Ze′rah.

39 Now them carry Joseph go down to Egypt, and one Egypt person wey im name na Pot′i·phar buy-am from Ish′ma·el people wey carry-am go there. Pot′i·phar na person wey get high position for Phar′aoh palace, and na im be the oga of the guards. 2 But Jehovah dey with Joseph. Because of this one, e succeed for wetin e de do, and them put-am make e de control the house of im oga, the Egypt person. 3 And im oga see say Jehovah dey with-am, and say Jehovah de make-am succeed for everything wey e de do.

4 Joseph continue to do wetin sweet im oga,* and e come be servant wey e trust. So e choose Joseph make e be head for im house, and e put-am make e de control everything wey e get. 5 From the time wey e choose-am make e be head for im house and put-am make e de control everything wey e get, Jehovah continue to bless the house of the Egypt man because of Joseph, and Jehovah bless everything wey e get for house and for other place. 6 At last, e leave everything wey e get for Joseph hand, and e no de even de worry about anything apart from the food wey e de chop. Another thing be say, Joseph get better body and e really fine.

7 Now after this things, the wife of Joseph oga start to put eye for Joseph body, and de tell-am say: “Sleep with me.” 8 But e no gree, and e tell im oga wife say: “See, my oga no de put mind for the things wey I de do for this house, and e don put everything wey e get for my hand, make I de care for. 9 Nobody high pass me for this house, and e don put everything for my hand, apart from you, because you be im wife. So how I go do this kind serious bad thing and really sin against God?”

10 So everyday, the woman de talk to Joseph, but Joseph no gree sleep with-am or dey with-am. 11 But one day when Joseph go inside the house to do im work, nobody among the servants dey inside the house. 12 Then the woman hold Joseph for cloth and talk say: “Sleep with me!” But Joseph leave im cloth for im hand and run go outside. 13 As the woman just see say Joseph leave im cloth for im hand and run go outside, 14 the woman start to cry, de shout and call the men wey dey im house, and tell them say: “See! My husband bring this Hebrew man to use us laugh. E come meet me to sleep with me, but I start to cry with loud voice. 15 Then as e just hear as I de shout with loud voice, e leave im cloth for my side and run go outside.” 16 After that one, the woman keep Joseph cloth for im side until Joseph oga come back to im house.

17 Then e tell im husband the same thing say: “The Hebrew servant wey you bring for us, come meet me to use me laugh. 18 But as I just start to shout with loud voice, e leave im cloth near me and run go outside.” 19 As Joseph oga just hear the things wey im wife tell-am say: “Na this things your servant do me,” e vex no be small. 20 So Joseph oga carry-am put for prison, the place wey them de put the people wey the king arrest. And na so e just dey there for prison.

21 But Jehovah continue to dey with Joseph and e continue to show-am love wey no de fail, and e make the oga of the prison to like Joseph.* 22 So the oga of the prison put Joseph say make e de control all the people for the prison, and na Joseph de control all the things wey them de do for the prison. 23 The oga of the prison no de worry about anything wey them put for Joseph hand, because Jehovah dey with Joseph and Jehovah make-am succeed for anything wey e de do.

40 After this things, the oga of the people wey de give the king of Egypt drink, and the oga of the people wey de bake things sin against their oga, wey be the king of Egypt. 2 So Phar′aoh really vex for im two servants, the oga of the people wey de give-am drink and the oga of the people wey de bake things for-am. 3 And e put them for prison, for the house of the oga of the guards, for where them put Joseph for prison. 4 Then the oga of the guards put Joseph make e dey with them, and make e take care of them, and them dey prison for some time.*

5 The person wey de give the king of Egypt drink, and the person wey de bake things for-am wey them put for prison, each of them dream for the same night. And each of the dream get im own meaning. 6 The next morning, when Joseph come inside and see them, their face show say them really dey sad. 7 So e ask the servants of Phar′aoh wey dey prison with-am for im oga house say: “Why una face dey sad today?” 8 So them tell-am say: “Each of us dream, but nobody dey to tell us the meaning.” Joseph tell them say: “No be God de talk the meaning of dream? Abeg, tell me the dream.”

9 So the oga of the people wey de give the king drink tell Joseph im dream. E tell-am say: “For my dream, one vine tree dey my front. 10 And for the vine tree, three small-small branch dey, and as im leaves de grow come out, e produce flowers, and the flowers produce bunch of ripe grapes. 11 That time, Phar′aoh cup dey my hand. Then I take the grapes and squeeze them inside Phar′aoh cup. After that one, I put the cup for Phar′aoh hand.” 12 Then Joseph tell-am say: “This one na the meaning of the dream: The three branch na three days. 13 After three days from today, Phar′aoh go bring you come out,* e go put you back for your work, and you go put Phar′aoh cup for im hand as you de do before when you de give-am drink. 14 But make you remember me when things go well for you. Abeg, show me love wey no de fail and talk to Phar′aoh about me, so that them go fit comot me from this place. 15 The truth be say, them kidnap me comot from the land of Hebrew people, and I no do anything for here wey suppose make them put me for prison.”*

16 When the oga of the people wey de bake things see say the meaning of the dream wey Joseph talk good, e tell-am say: “I dream about myself too. For the dream, three baskets of white bread dey ontop my head, 17 and for the basket wey dey up-up, different-different kind of things wey them bake for Phar′aoh dey inside, and birds de chop them from the basket ontop my head.” 18 Then Joseph answer say: “Na the meaning of the dream be this: The three baskets na three days. 19 After three days from today, Phar′aoh go cut your head* and hang you for pole, and birds go chop your flesh.”

20 Now the third day na Phar′aoh birthday, and e do party for all im servants, e bring out the oga of the people wey de give-am drink and the oga of the people wey de bake things for-am for front of all im servants. 21 E put the oga of the people wey de give-am drink back to im work as person wey de give drink, and e continue to give drink to Phar′aoh. 22 But e hang the oga of the people wey de bake things, just as Joseph don tell them the meaning. 23 But the oga of the people wey de give Phar′aoh drink no remember Joseph, e continue to forget-am.

41 After two full years don pass, Phar′aoh dream say e de stand near River Nile. 2 And for there, seven fine-fine cows wey fat de come out from the river, and them de chop grass for River Nile. 3 After, other seven worwor cows wey thin for body de come out from River Nile, and them stand together with the fat cows for the side of River Nile. 4 Then the worwor cows wey thin for body start to chop the seven fine-fine cows wey fat. Then Phar′aoh wake up.

5 Then e sleep again and dream another dream. One stem of grain produce seven heads of grain wey big and fine. 6 And after, another stem grow and produce seven heads of grain wey thin and wey the breeze from the east don really dry. 7 And the thin heads of grain start to swallow the seven big-big heads of grain wey fine. Na this time Phar′aoh wake up and see say na dream.

8 But for morning, Phar′aoh start to worry. So e call all the priests wey de do magic for Egypt and all the men wey get sense. Phar′aoh tell them im dreams, but nobody fit tell Phar′aoh the meaning of the dreams.

9 Then the oga of people wey de give Phar′aoh drink tell-am say: “I de confess my sin today. 10 E get one time wey Phar′aoh vex for im servants. So e put me for prison for the house of the oga of the guards, me and the oga of the people wey de bake things. 11 After, each of us dream for the same night. E dream and I dream, and each of the dream get im own meaning. 12 And for there, one young Hebrew man dey with us, and na servant of the oga of the guards. When we tell-am our dreams, e tell us the meaning of each dream. 13 E happen exactly as e tell us. Them put me back for my work, but them hang the other man.”

14 So Phar′aoh say make them bring Joseph, and them bring-am quick-quick from the prison.* E shave and change im cloths and go meet Phar′aoh. 15 Then Phar′aoh tell Joseph say: “I dream one dream, but nobody dey to talk the meaning. I hear say when person tell you dream, you go fit tell-am the meaning.” 16 So Joseph answer Phar′aoh say: “No be me de talk-am! God go tell Phar′aoh wetin go good for-am.”

17 Then Phar′aoh tell Joseph say: “For my dream, I stand for the side of River Nile. 18 And for there, seven fine-fine cows wey fat de come out from the river, and them start to chop grass for the river. 19 And other seven cows come out after them. The cows dey weak, them worwor no be small and them thin for body. I never see cows wey worwor like that before for the whole land of Egypt. 20 Then the cows wey thin for body and wey worwor start to chop the first seven cows wey fat. 21 But even after them don chop them finish, nobody go know say them don chop the fat cows, because them no good for eye as them be for beginning. Then I wake up.

22 “After that one, for my dream, I see one stem of grain produce seven heads of grain wey big and fine. 23 And after, another stem grow and produce seven heads of grain wey dey weak, thin, and the east wind don really dry them. 24 Then the thin heads of grain start to swallow the seven heads of grain wey fine. So I tell the priests wey de do magic about the dream, but nobody fit tell me the meaning.”

25 Then Joseph tell Phar′aoh say: “The dreams wey Phar′aoh dream get the same meaning. Na wetin the true God go do e don tell Phar′aoh. 26 The seven fine-fine cows na seven years. The seven fine heads of grain na seven years too. The dreams get the same meaning. 27 The seven cows wey thin for body and wey no fine, wey come out after them, na seven years. And the seven heads of grain wey nothing dey inside, wey the east wind don dry, go be seven years wey hunger go dey. 28 This one na just as I don tell Phar′aoh say: Na wetin the true God go do e don make Phar′aoh see.

29 “Seven years de come wey food go really plenty for the whole land of Egypt. 30 But seven years wey hunger go dey go surely come after them, and people go surely forget all the plenty food wey be dey the land of Egypt, and the hunger go finish the land. 31 Them no go remember the plenty food wey be dey the land, because of the hunger wey go follow-am, because the hunger go really serious. 32 Phar′aoh dream about-am two times because the true God don stamp the matter and na small time remain make the true God do-am.

33 “Now, make Phar′aoh look for one man wey de understand something well and wey get sense, and make e give-am authority to be head for the land of Egypt. 34 Make Phar′aoh do something and choose people wey go be head for the land, and make e collect one part out of five part of the things wey them go harvest for Egypt for the seven years wey food go plenty. 35 And make them collect all the food for this better years wey de come, make them gather grain as food wey dey under Phar′aoh control, and make them store them for the cities, and protect them there. 36 Na this food people go chop for the land for the seven years wey hunger go dey for the land of Egypt, so that hunger no go kill the people and the animals for the land.”

37 Phar′aoh and all im servants like this thing wey Joseph talk. 38 So Phar′aoh ask im servants say: “Another person dey wey get the spirit of God like this man?” 39 Then Phar′aoh tell Joseph say: “Since God don make you know all this things, nobody dey wey de understand something well and wey get sense like you. 40 Na you go be head for my house, and all my people go obey you for everything. The only thing wey go make me big pass you na because I be king.”* 41 Phar′aoh still tell Joseph say: “See, I de put you as head for the whole land of Egypt.” 42 Then Phar′aoh comot im special ring for im own hand and put-am for Joseph hand, e wear-am quality linen cloths and put gold chain for im neck. 43 Apart from that one, e talk say make them take the second chariot wey e de use as king carry Joseph, and make them dey im front de talk say, “A·vrékh!”* Na so Phar′aoh take make Joseph head for the whole land of Egypt.

44 Phar′aoh still tell Joseph say: “Na me be Phar′aoh, but if you no talk say make person do something, nobody go fit do anything* for the whole land of Egypt.” 45 After that one, Phar′aoh give Joseph the name Zaph′e·nath-pa·ne′ah and e give-am As′e·nath as im wife. As′e·nath na the daughter of Pot·i′phe·ra, the priest of On.* Joseph come start to control* the land of Egypt. 46 Joseph dey 30 years when e stand for front of* Phar′aoh the king of Egypt.

Then Joseph comot from front of Phar′aoh and travel round the whole land of Egypt. 47 And for the seven years wey food go plenty, the land continue to produce plenty food. 48 And e continue to collect all the food from the land of Egypt for the seven years, and e gather the food keep for the cities. For each city, e go keep the food wey them harvest from the farms wey dey around the city. 49 Joseph continue to gather plenty-plenty grain, just like sand wey dey for sea, sotey at last, them stop to measure how the food plenty reach because them no fit measure-am again.

50 Before the year of hunger reach, Joseph don get two sons wey As′e·nath wey be the daughter of Pot·i′phe·ra, the priest of On* born for-am. 51 Joseph name the firstborn Ma·nas′seh,* because e talk say: “God don make me forget all my problems and all the family of my papa.” 52 And e name the second one E′phra·im,* because e talk say: “God don make me get children* for the land wey I dey de suffer.”

53 Then the seven years wey food plenty for the land of Egypt end. 54 The seven years wey hunger go dey come start, just as Joseph be don talk-am. The hunger reach all the lands, but food* dey everywhere for the land of Egypt. 55 At last, the hunger affect the people for all the land of Egypt, and the people start to cry to Phar′aoh say make e give them food. Then Phar′aoh tell all Egypt people say: “Make una go meet Joseph and do anything wey e tell una.” 56 The hunger continue for the whole earth. Then Joseph start to open all the place them wey e gather food keep among the people, e come de sell-am to Egypt people, because the hunger really strong for the land of Egypt. 57 Apart from that one, people from the whole earth come Egypt to buy food from Joseph, because the hunger really strong for the whole earth.

42 When Jacob hear say food* dey for Egypt, e tell im sons say: “Why una just de look each other?” 2 E still talk say: “I don hear say food dey for Egypt. Make una go down there go buy food for us, so that we go fit dey alive, make we no die.” 3 So ten of Joseph brothers go down to buy food for Egypt. 4 But Jacob no gree say make Benjamin wey be Joseph brother follow im other brothers go, because e talk say: “Make something no go happen wey go make-am die.”

5 So Israel sons come with other people wey de come buy food, because the hunger don reach the land of Ca′naan. 6 Na Joseph be the man wey de control the land, and na im de sell food to all the people for the earth. So Joseph brothers come and bow down to-am. 7 When Joseph see im brothers, e just know say na them, but e no make them know who e be. So e talk to them with vex say: “Where una come from?” Them talk say: “We come from the land of Ca′naan to buy food.”

8 So Joseph know say them be im brothers, but them no know say na Joseph be that. 9 Joseph quick-quick remember the dreams wey e dream about them, and e tell them say: “Una be people wey hide come check the land! Una come see the weak parts for our land!” 10 Then, them tell-am say: “No my oga, na food your servants come buy. 11 Na one man born all of us. Our hand dey clean. Your servants no hide come check the land.” 12 But e tell them say: “That one no be true! Una come see the weak parts for our land!” 13 So them talk say: “Your servants na 12 brothers. Na one man born us for the land of Ca′naan. The last one dey with our papa now, but the other one no dey again.”

14 But Joseph tell them say: “Na as I tell una na so e be—‘Una hide come check our land!’ 15 I go use this one know whether una de talk true: As Phar′aoh dey alive, una no go comot from this place until una last brother come here. 16 Make una send one of una go bring una brother, and the rest of una go dey here for prison. And this one go show whether wetin una de talk na true. If una no do like that, then, I de use the life of Phar′aoh swear say una hide come check our land.” 17 So e put them together for prison for three days.

18 For the third day, Joseph tell them say: “I be person wey de fear God. So make una do wetin I talk, so that una no go die. 19 If una hand clean, make one of una brothers still dey for inside the prison wey una dey, but make the rest of una go carry food go give una family wey serious hunger de affect. 20 Then make una bring una last brother come meet me, so that I go know say wetin una de talk na true, and una no go die.” So them do as e talk.

21 Them come de tell each other say: “E clear say na wetin we do our brother de make us suffer like this, because we see how the thing pain-am reach* when e de beg us say make we pity-am, but we no listen. Na im make we de suffer like this.” 22 Then Reu′ben tell them say: “I no tell una say, ‘Make una no do the boy any bad thing’* but una no listen? Now we de surely pay back for im blood.” 23 But them no know say Joseph understand wetin them talk, because anytime wey them de talk with Joseph, na person de interpret-am. 24 So e comot from where them dey, and start to cry. When e come back come talk to them again, e take Sim′e·on from them, and tie-am as them de look. 25 Then Joseph command im servants say make them full their bags with food and put each man money back inside im bag and say make them still give them things wey them go need as them de travel. Na wetin them do for them.

26 So them carry their food put ontop their donkeys and comot from there. 27 When one of them open im bag to give food to im donkey for the place wey them want sleep, e see say im money dey for inside the mouth of im bag. 28 Then e tell im brothers say: “Them put my money back, e dey inside my bag!” Then their heart cut, and as their body de shake, them turn face each other and talk say: “Wetin be this thing wey God don do us?”

29 When them come meet Jacob their papa for the land of Ca′naan, them tell-am all the things wey happen to them. Them talk say: 30 “The man wey be the oga for the country talk to us with vex, and e talk say we hide come check the country. 31 But we tell-am say, ‘Our hand clean, we no hide come check the country. 32 We be 12 brothers, na the same papa born us. One of us no dey again, and the last one dey with our papa now for the land of Ca′naan.’ 33 But the man wey be the oga for the country tell us say, ‘Na this one go make me know say una hand clean: Make una leave one of una brother with me. Then make una carry food wey una go give una family wey serious hunger de affect and go. 34 And make una bring una brother wey be the last one come meet me, so that I go know say una no hide come check our land, but say una hand clean. Then I go give una brother back to una, and una go fit buy wetin una need for the land.’”

35 As them de comot things from their bag, them see say each person bundle of money dey inside im bag. When them and their papa see their bundle of money, fear catch them. 36 Jacob their papa come shout and tell them say: “Una don finish me! Joseph no dey again, Sim′e·on no dey again, and una want still carry Benjamin go! Na me de suffer all this things wey de happen!” 37 But Reu′ben tell im papa say: “You fit kill my two sons if I no bring-am back to you. Allow me make I carry-am go. I go bring-am back to you.” 38 But Jacob talk say: “My son no go go with una, because im brother don die and na only im remain. If something happen to-am wey fit make-am die as una de travel, then una go surely make me enter Grave* with pain for my old age.”

43 That time, the serious hunger wey dey for the land really strong. 2 So when them don chop the food* wey them bring from Egypt finish, their papa tell them say: “Make una go back go buy small food for us.” 3 Then Judah tell-am say: “The man really warn us say, ‘If una brother no follow una come, make una no try to see my face again.’ 4 If you allow our brother go with us, we go go down go buy food for you. 5 But if you no allow-am follow us, we no go go down, because the man tell us say, ‘If una brother no follow una come, make una no try to see my face again.’” 6 Israel come ask them say: “Why una do me this bad thing, as una tell the man say una get another brother?” 7 Them answer-am say: “The man ask direct about us and our family people say, ‘Una papa still dey alive? Una get another brother?’ and we tell-am the truth. How we for know say the man go talk say, ‘Make una go bring una brother come’?”

8 Then Judah beg im papa Israel say: “Allow the boy follow me make we go so that we, and you, and our children go dey alive, make we no die. 9 I go make sure say nothing happen to the boy. Hold me if anything happen to the boy. If I no fit bring the boy back and give-am to you, then I go don sin against you forever. 10 If to say we no waste time, now, we for don reach there and come back two times.”

11 So Israel their papa tell them say: “If na so e must be, then make una do this one: Make una put the things wey better pass for the land inside una bag, and carry them go down go give the man as gift: small balsam, small honey, labdanum, back of tree,* pistachio nuts, and almonds. 12 Make una take double of the amount of money wey una carry go the first time; and that money wey them put back inside the mouth of una bags, make una still carry-am go back. Maybe na mistake them do. 13 Make una take una brother and go back go meet the man. 14 Make Almighty God move the man to pity una so that e go release una brother and Benjamin to una. But as for me, if e mean say I must lose my children, then make I lose them!”

15 So the men carry the gift, and them take double amount of the money, with Benjamin, then them comot go down to Egypt and stand for Joseph front again. 16 When Joseph see Benjamin with them, quick-quick e tell the man wey be head for im house say: “Carry the men go house, kill animals and cook food, because the men go chop with me for afternoon.” 17 Quick-quick, the man do just as Joseph talk. E carry them go Joseph house. 18 But fear catch the men when them carry them go Joseph house, and them start to talk say: “Na because of the money wey them put inside our bag the last time na im make them carry us come here. Now them go attack us, turn us to slaves and take our donkeys!”

19 So them go meet the man wey be head for Joseph house and talk with-am for front of the house. 20 Them talk say: “Abeg allow us tell you something, my lord! We be come here the first time come buy food. 21 But when we reach the place wey we de sleep and start to open our bags, we see say each person money dey inside the mouth of im bag, our complete money. So we go like give the money back by ourself. 22 And we don bring more money to buy food. We no know who put our money inside our bags.” 23 Then e talk say: “No problem. Make una no fear. Na una God and the God of una papa put something wey get value inside una bags. Na my hand una money first reach.” After that one, e release Sim′e·on to join them.

24 Then the man carry them enter Joseph house and give them water make them wash their leg and e give their donkeys food. 25 And them arrange the gifts wey them go give Joseph when e come for afternoon, because them hear say them go chop for there. 26 When Joseph enter the house, them carry their gift give-am for inside the house, and lie down for ground for-am. 27 After this one, e ask them how them dey, and talk say: “How una papa wey don old wey una be talk about? E still dey alive?” 28 Then, them talk say: “Your servant, our papa, dey fine. E still dey alive.” Them come bow down and lie down for ground.

29 When e look up and see Benjamin im brother, wey be the son of im mama, e talk say: “Na una brother be this? The last one wey una tell me about?” E still talk say: “Make God bless you* my son.” 30 Then Joseph comot quick-quick, because e feel for im brother sotey e want cry, and e find place to cry. So e enter inside one separate room and start to cry for there. 31 After that one, e wash im face and come out, and now, e fit control imself. Then e talk say: “Make una bring the food.” 32 Them give-am im food for separate place. Them give im brothers their own for separate place, and the Egypt people wey dey with-am chop for separate place too, because Egypt people no fit chop together with Hebrew people since Egypt people really hate that kind thing.

33 Im brothers* sitdown for im front according to their age, from firstborn go reach the lastborn, and them continue to look each other with surprise. 34 E continue to send food from im table to their table, but the one wey e send to Benjamin plenty pass the one wey e send to all im other brothers five times. So them continue to chop and drink with-am until them belleful.

44 Later, e command the man wey be head for im house say: “Full the bags of the men with plenty food as them fit carry, and put the money of each of them for inside the mouth of im bag. 2 But you must put my cup, the silver cup inside the bag of the last boy, with im money for food.”* So e do wetin Joseph talk.

3 For morning, when everywhere don bright, them allow the men go with their donkeys. 4 Them never go far from the city when Joseph tell the man wey be head for im house say: “Ready! Pursue the men! When you meet them, ask them say, ‘Why una pay good thing with bad thing? 5 Una no know say this one na wetin my oga de use drink and de use talk wetin go happen for future well? Na wicked thing una do so.’”

6 So e meet them and tell them this things. 7 But them tell-am say: “Why my lord de talk like this? Your servants no fit even think-am say them want do anything like this. 8 Even the money wey we see for our bags, we bring-am back from the land of Ca′naan come give you. So how we go fit thief silver or gold from your oga house? 9 If you see-am with any of us wey be your slaves, make e die, and the rest of us go still be slaves to my oga.” 10 So e talk say: “Make e be as una talk-am: The person wey them see-am for im hand go be my slave, but the rest of una go dey free.” 11 So quick-quick, each of them carry im bag come down and open-am. 12 E sofri search their bags, e start with the senior brother till e reach the last boy. At last, e see the cup inside Benjamin bag.

13 Then, them tear their cloths, and each of them carry im load put ontop im donkey and go back to the city. 14 When Judah and im brothers enter Joseph house, e still dey there. Then, them lie down for ground for im front. 15 Joseph ask them say: “Which kind thing una do so? Una no know say person like me fit talk wetin go happen for future well?” 16 So Judah answer-am say: “Wetin we fit tell my oga? Wetin we fit talk? And how we fit prove say our hand clean? The true God don see the bad thing wey your slaves do. Now, we and the person wey them see the cup for im hand don be slaves to my oga!” 17 But, Joseph talk say: “I no fit even think-am say I go do this kind thing! Na the man wey them see the cup for im hand go be my slave. As for the rest of una, make una go well go meet una papa.”

18 Judah come meet-am and talk say: “I beg you my oga, abeg, allow me your slave make I talk to you, and make you no vex for me your slave, because you just be like Phar′aoh. 19 My oga be ask im slaves say, ‘Una get papa or brother?’ 20 So we answer my oga say, ‘We get papa wey don old and one boy wey e born when e don old. Na im be the last boy, but im brother don die, so this one na the only son of im mama wey remain, and im papa love-am.’ 21 After that one, you tell your slaves say, ‘Bring that one come so that I fit see-am.’ 22 But we tell my oga say, ‘The boy no go fit leave im papa. If e leave im papa, im papa go surely die.’ 23 Then you tell your slaves say, ‘If una last brother no follow una come, make una no try to see my face again.’

24 “So we go meet our papa your slave and tell-am the things wey you, our oga talk. 25 After, our papa talk say, ‘Make una go back and buy small food for us.’ 26 But we talk say, ‘We no go fit go down to that place. We go go down to that place if our last brother go with us, because we no fit see the man face if our last brother no go with us.’ 27 Then your slave my papa, tell us say, ‘Una know say na two sons my wife born for me. 28 But one of them leave me and I talk say: “One wicked bush animal go don surely tear-am and pieces-am!” and I never see-am till now. 29 If una carry this one go, and something happen to-am wey make-am die, then una go surely make me enter Grave* with pains for my old age.’

30 “And now, if I go back go meet your slave my papa and the boy no dey with us, since e really dey tight with the boy,* 31 then as e just see say the boy no dey, e go die, and we your slaves go don really make our papa, your slave, enter Grave* with pain for im old age. 32 Me your slave promise my papa say the boy go dey safe, when I tell-am say, ‘If I no bring the boy back and give-am to you, then I go don sin against my papa all my life.’ 33 So now, abeg my oga, make I stay as your slave instead of the boy, so that the boy go fit go back with im brothers. 34 How I go fit go back to my papa when the boy no dey with me? I no fit stand see as this kind bad thing de happen to my papa!”

45 So Joseph no fit control imself again for front of all im servants. So e shout say: “Make everybody comot for here!” Nobody remain with Joseph as e de tell im brothers who e be.

2 Then e start to cry loud sotey Egypt people hear-am and people for Phar′aoh palace hear-am. 3 At last, Joseph tell im brothers say: “I be Joseph. My papa still dey alive?” But im brothers no fit answer-am at all because them really surprise because of Joseph. 4 So Joseph tell im brothers say: “Make una come near me abeg.” Then, them come near-am.

Then e talk say: “I be Joseph una brother wey una sell and wey them carry come Egypt. 5 But now, make una no quarrel, and make una no blame each other because una sell me come here, because na God send me come here first before una, to save life. 6 This one na the second year wey hunger don dey for the land, and five years still remain wey nobody go fit prepare the ground to plant* or harvest. 7 But God send me come here first before una, to keep some people alive for una family line* for the earth,* and to save una for wonderful way make una dey alive. 8 So, no be una send me come here, but na the true God, so that e go make me to be the main adviser* to Phar′aoh and lord for im whole palace, and ruler for the whole land of Egypt.

9 “Go back to my papa quick-quick, and una must tell-am say, ‘This one na wetin your son Joseph talk: “God don make me to be lord for the whole Egypt. Come down come meet me, no waste time. 10 You go live for the land of Go′shen, where you go dey near me. You, your sons, your grandsons, your sheep and goats, your animals, and everything wey you get. 11 I go de give you food for there, because five years of hunger still remain. If no be so, poverty go finish you and the people for your house and everything wey you get.”’ 12 Una and my brother Benjamin fit see with una own eyes now say na me de really talk to una. 13 So make una tell my papa about all the honor wey I get for Egypt and everything wey una don see. Now make una go quick-quick and bring my papa come here.”

14 Then, e hug im brother Benjamin and start to cry. And Benjamin put im hand round im neck and de cry. 15 E kiss all im brothers, and e cry as e hug them. After that one, im brothers talk with-am.

16 People for Phar′aoh palace hear about the news say: “Joseph brothers don come!” This one sweet Phar′aoh and im servants. 17 So Phar′aoh tell Joseph say: “Tell your brothers say, ‘Make una do this thing: Load things ontop the animals wey una de use carry load, and go the land of Ca′naan, 18 and bring una papa and una families and come here. I go give una the good things of the land of Egypt and una go chop the best things of the land.* 19 And I de command you to tell them say: “Make una do this thing: Take wagons from the land of Egypt for una children and una wives, and make una bring una papa for inside one of them and come here. 20 Make una no worry about una property, because the best things for all the land of Egypt na una own.”’”

21 And the sons of Israel do like that, and Joseph give them wagons as Phar′aoh don command, and e give them the things wey them go need for the journey. 22 E give each of them new-new cloths wey them go de wear, but e give Benjamin 300 pieces of silver and five new cloths. 23 And e send this things to im papa: ten donkeys wey carry better-better things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys wey carry grain, bread, and other food wey im papa go need for the journey. 24 So e arrange make im brothers de go, and as them de comot, e tell them say: “Make una no quarrel with each other for road.”

25 Then, them go up from Egypt and enter the land of Ca′naan go meet Jacob their papa. 26 Then, them tell-am the news say: “Joseph still dey alive, and e de rule the whole land of Egypt!” But the news no touch im heart, because e no believe them. 27 When them start to tell-am all the things wey Joseph don tell them, and when e see the wagons wey Joseph send to carry-am, the heart of their papa Jacob start to sweet-am again.* 28 Israel shout say: “I believe una now! My son Joseph still dey alive! I must go see-am before I die!”

46 So Israel take everything wey e get* and comot. When e reach Be′er-she′ba, e do sacrifices for the God of im papa Isaac. 2 Then God talk to Israel for vision for night say: “Jacob, Jacob!” And e answer say: “See me here!” 3 E talk say: “I be the true God, the God of your papa. Make you no fear to go down to Egypt, because I go make you to be big* nation for there. 4 I go follow you go down to Egypt, and I go still bring you come back from there, and Joseph go use im hand cover your eyes.”*

5 After that one, Jacob comot from Be′er-she′ba and the sons of Israel carry Jacob their papa and their children and their wives for inside the wagons wey Phar′aoh don send to carry-am. 6 Them carry their animals and their property wey them don get for the land of Ca′naan. And so Jacob and all im children wey dey with-am enter Egypt. 7 E enter Egypt with im sons and im grandsons, im daughters and im granddaughters, all im children.

8 The names of the sons of Israel wey enter Egypt, Jacob and im sons, na: Reu′ben wey be Jacob firstborn.

9 The sons of Reu′ben na Ha′noch, Pal′lu, Hez′ron, and Car′mi.

10 The sons of Sim′e·on na Jem·u′el, Ja′min, O′had, Ja′chin, Zo′har, and Sha′ul wey be the son of one Ca′naan woman.

11 The sons of Le′vi na Ger′shon, Ko′hath, and Me·rar′i.

12 The sons of Judah na Er, O′nan, She′lah, Pe′rez, and Ze′rah. But Er and O′nan die for the land of Ca′naan.

The sons of Pe′rez na Hez′ron and Ha′mul.

13 The sons of Is′sa·char na To′la, Pu′vah, Iob, and Shim′ron.

14 The sons of Zeb′u·lun na Se′red, E′lon, and Jah′le·el.

15 This ones na the sons of Le′ah, wey e born for Jacob for Pad′dan-a′ram, and e still born one girl wey im name na Di′nah. All the sons of Jacob and im daughters* na 33.

16 The sons of Gad na Ziph′i·on, Hag′gi, Shu′ni, Ez′bon, E′ri, Ar·o′di, and A·re′li.

17 The sons of Ash′er na Im′nah, Ish′vah, Ish′vi, and Be·ri′ah, and their sister na Se′rah.

The sons of Be·ri′ah na He′ber and Mal′chi·el.

18 This ones na the sons of Zil′pah, wey La′ban give im daughter Le′ah. All the children wey come from Zil′pah and Jacob na 16 people.*

19 The sons of Jacob wife wey be Rachel na Joseph and Benjamin.

20 The children wey Joseph get for the land of Egypt na Ma·nas′seh and E′phra·im, wey As′e·nath the daughter of Pot·i′phe·ra the priest of On* born for-am.

21 The sons of Benjamin na Be′la, Be′cher, Ash′bel, Ge′ra, Na′a·man, E′hi, Rosh, Mup′pim, Hup′pim, and Ard.

22 All the sons wey come from Rachel and Jacob na 14 people.*

23 The son* of Dan na Hu′shim.

24 The sons of Naph′ta·li na Jah′ze·el, Gu′ni, Je′zer, and Shil′lem.

25 This ones na the sons of Bil′hah, wey La′ban give to im daughter Rachel. All the children wey come from Bil′hah and Jacob na seven people.*

26 All the people* wey come from Jacob and wey go Egypt with-am, apart from the wives of Jacob sons, na 66. 27 The sons wey them born for Joseph for Egypt na two.* All the people* for the house of Jacob wey come Egypt na 70.

28 Jacob send Judah make e first go tell Joseph say e dey road de go Go′shen. When them reach the land of Go′shen, 29 Joseph talk say make them prepare im chariot, and e go meet Israel im papa for Go′shen. When e show imself to im papa, e just hug-am* and cry for some time.* 30 Then Israel tell Joseph say: “Now I don ready to die. I don see your face and know say you still dey alive.”

31 So Joseph tell im brothers and the people for im papa house say: “Make I go up and tell Phar′aoh say, ‘My brothers and the people for my papa house wey be dey the land of Ca′naan don come here come meet me. 32 The men na shepherds and them de care for animals, and them don bring their sheep and goats and their other animals, and everything wey them get.’ 33 When Phar′aoh call una and ask say, ‘Wetin be una work?’ 34 Una go talk say, ‘Your servants don de care for animals from when we dey young come reach now, both we and our papa-papa them,’ so that una go fit de live for the land of Go′shen, because Egypt people hate anybody wey de care for sheep.”

47 So Joseph comot go tell Phar′aoh say: “My papa and my brothers, their sheep, their goats, and their other animals, and everything wey them get don come from the land of Ca′naan, and them dey the land of Go′shen.” 2 E take five of im brothers and show them to Phar′aoh.

3 Phar′aoh ask Joseph brothers say: “Wetin be una work?” Them answer Phar′aoh say: “Your servants de care for sheep, both we and our papa-papa them.” 4 Then, them tell Phar′aoh say: “We don come live as strangers for the land, because no food for the animals of your servant, since the hunger for the land of Ca′naan really dey serious. So abeg, make your servants live for the land of Go′shen.” 5 So Phar′aoh tell Joseph say: “Your papa and your brothers don come here come meet you. 6 The land of Egypt dey your hand. Make your papa and your brothers live for the best part of the land. Make them live for the land of Go′shen, and if you know men among them wey really know how to work well, make you choose them make them de care for my animals.”

7 Then Joseph bring Jacob im papa and show-am to Phar′aoh, and Jacob bless Phar′aoh. 8 Phar′aoh ask Jacob say: “How many years you be?” 9 Jacob tell Phar′aoh say: “The number of years wey I don waka from place to place* na 130 years. The years wey I don live for life dey short, and I face hard time, and them no long reach the number of years wey my papa-papa them live their life when them de waka from place to place.”* 10 After that one, Jacob bless Phar′aoh and comot from where Phar′aoh dey.

11 So Joseph put im papa and im brothers for where them go de stay and e give them place for the land of Egypt, for the best part of the land, for the land of Ram′e·ses, just as Phar′aoh don command. 12 And Joseph continue to bring food* for im papa, im brothers, and everybody for im papa house, according to the number of their children.

13 Now food* no dey for the whole land, because the hunger really dey serious, and people for the land of Egypt and the land of Ca′naan de suffer because of the hunger. 14 Joseph de collect all the money wey dey the land of Egypt and the land of Ca′naan wey people de use buy food,* and Joseph continue to bring the money come Phar′aoh house. 15 After some time, the money from the land of Egypt and the land of Ca′naan finish, and all Egypt people start to come meet Joseph and de talk say: “Give us food! You go leave us make we die for your front because say our money don finish?” 16 Then Joseph talk say: “If una money don finish, make una bring una animals, and I go give una food and collect una animals.” 17 So them start to bring their animals to Joseph, and Joseph continue to give them food and collect their horses, their sheep, their goats, their cows, and their donkeys. E continue to give them food and collect all their animals for that year.

18 When that year don end, them start to come meet-am the next year and de talk say: “We no go fit hide-am from our lord say we don already give our lord the money and the animals wey fit live with people. We no get anything wey remain to give our lord, except ourself and our land. 19 You go leave us make we die for your front? And our land go just waste like that? Buy us together with our land and give us food, and we go be slave to Phar′aoh and our land go be im own. Give us seed so that we fit live and no die, and so that our land no go turn to empty place.” 20 So Joseph buy all the land wey Egypt people get for Phar′aoh, because all Egypt people sell their land, since na really serious hunger dey. The land come be Phar′aoh own.

21 Then Joseph tell people wey de live for the whole Egypt say make them move go the cities. 22 Na only the land of the priests e no buy, because na Phar′aoh de give the priests food, and them de use the food wey Phar′aoh give them to survive. Because of this one, them no sell their land. 23 Then Joseph tell the people say: “See, today I don buy una and una land for Phar′aoh. Make una see seed for here wey una go plant for the land. 24 When e don produce, una go divide-am to five parts and give Phar′aoh one part. But the remaining four parts go be una own. Una go use-am as seed wey una go plant for the land and as food for una and for people wey dey una house, and for una children to chop.” 25 So them talk say: “You don save our life. Make our lord accept us,* and we go be Phar′aoh slaves.” 26 Then Joseph put-am as law say, na Phar′aoh get one part out of every five parts. And the law stand for the land of Egypt come reach today. Na only the land of the priests no be Phar′aoh own.

27 Israel continue to stay for the land of Egypt, for the land of Go′shen, and them live for there, them born children and them really plenty no be small. 28 And Jacob live for the land of Egypt for 17 years. And all the years of Jacob life come be 147 years.

29 Time don de reach for Israel to die, so e call im son Joseph and talk say: “Now, if you want do me well,* abeg, make you swear to me* and show me love wey no de fail, and do wetin I talk.* Abeg, make you no bury me for Egypt. 30 When I die,* you must carry me comot from Egypt and bury me for the grave of my papa-papa them.” So e talk say: “I go do wetin you talk just as you talk-am.” 31 Then e talk say: “Swear to me.” So e swear to-am. Then, Israel bow down to God for the part of im bed wey them de put head.

48 After this things, them tell Joseph say: “See, your papa don de weak.” With this one, e take im two sons Ma·nas′seh and E′phra·im with-am to go see Jacob. 2 Then, them tell Jacob say: “See, your son Joseph don come meet you.” So Israel gather power and sitdown ontop im bed. 3 And Jacob tell Joseph say:

“God Almighty appear to me for Luz for the land of Ca′naan and bless me. 4 And e tell me say, ‘I de make you get plenty children, and I go make them many. And I go make you to be group of plenty people, and I go give this land to your children* wey go come after you as their own forever.’ 5 Now your two sons wey them born for you for the land of Egypt before I come meet you for Egypt, na my own. E′phra·im and Ma·nas′seh go be my own just as Reu′ben and Sim′e·on na my own. 6 But the children wey them go born for you after them, go be your own. Them go answer the name of their brothers for wetin them go get as their own property. 7 As for me, when I be de come from Pad′dan, Rachel die near me for the land of Ca′naan, and the road still far before we go reach Eph′rath. So I bury-am for there for the road to Eph′rath wey them de call Beth′le·hem.”

8 Then Israel see Joseph children and ask say: “Who them be?” 9 So Joseph tell im papa say: “Them be my sons wey God don give me for this place.” So e talk say: “Abeg bring them come meet me so that I fit bless them.” 10 Now Israel eyes don de weak because of old age, and e no fit see. So Joseph bring them near-am and e kiss them and hug them. 11 Israel tell Joseph say: “I no ever think say I go see your face, but now, God don still allow me see your children.”* 12 Then Joseph take them comot from Israel knees, and e bow down face ground.

13 Then Joseph hold the two of them. E use im right hand hold E′phra·im and put-am for the left side of Israel, and e use im left hand hold Ma·nas′seh and put-am for the right side of Israel, and bring them near-am. 14 But Israel stretch im right hand and put-am ontop E′phra·im head, even though say na E′phra·im be the junior one. And e put im left hand ontop Ma·nas′seh head. E know wetin e do, e no put im hand like that by mistake, since Ma·nas′seh na the firstborn. 15 Then e bless Joseph and talk say:

“The true God wey my papa Abraham and my papa Isaac don follow,*

The true God wey don de care for me* for all my life come reach today,

16 The angel wey don de save me from all my problem, make e bless the boys.

Make them answer my name and the name of my papa them, Abraham and Isaac.

Make them increase till them plenty for the earth.”

17 When Joseph see say im papa put im right hand ontop E′phra·im head, e no like-am, so e try to comot im papa hand from E′phra·im head to Ma·nas′seh head. 18 Joseph tell im papa say: “No be so my papa, because na this one be the firstborn. Put your right hand ontop im head.” 19 But im papa no gree, and talk say: “I know, my son, I know. E go become group of people too, and e go dey important* too. But, im junior brother go dey important* pass-am, and im children* go plenty sotey them go form nations.” 20 So e continue to bless them that day, and talk say:

“Make Israel people use your name when them de bless each other de talk say,

‘Make God make you be like E′phra·im and like Ma·nas′seh.’”

So e continue to put E′phra·im before Ma·nas′seh.

21 Then Israel tell Joseph say: “See, I de die, but God go surely continue to dey with you and take you back to the land of your papa-papa them. 22 As for me, I de give you one more land* pass the one wey I give your brothers, wey I take from the hand of Am′or·ite people with my sword and my bow.”

49 And Jacob call im sons and talk say: “Make una gather unaself together so that I go tell una wetin go happen to una for the last part of the days. 2 Make una come together and listen, una wey be sons of Jacob, yes, make una listen to Israel una papa.

3 “Reu′ben, na you be my firstborn, my power and the start of my power wey I use de born children, na you be get respect and power pass. 4 As e be say you no fit control yourself like water wey de rush up and down, you no go dey front of your brothers again, because you climb your papa bed. That time, you spoil* my bed. You really climb ontop-am!

5 “Sim′e·on and Le′vi na brothers. Them de use their swords to fight and kill. 6 O my soul,* make you no join them. O my honor,* make you no get anything to do with their group, because them kill men when them de vex, and them break the leg of bulls, because e de sweet them. 7 Make curse follow their vex, because e make them dey harsh and do wicked thing. Make I scatter them for the land of Jacob, and scatter them for Israel.

8 “As for you, Judah, your brothers go praise you. Your hand go dey the neck of your enemies. The sons of your papa go bow down for your front. 9 Judah na lion pikin. My pikin, you go get up after you don chop the meat wey you kill. Judah lie down for ground de rest like lion, and as e be like lion, who go fit find im trouble? 10 The king rod no go comot from Judah, and the rod of the ruler no go comot from im leg, until Shi′loh* go come, and na im the people go obey. 11 E go tie im donkey for vine tree, and e go tie im donkey pikin for better vine tree. E go use wine wash im cloth, and na water from vine fruit e go use wash im cloth. 12 Wine go make im eyes red, and milk go make im teeth white.

13 “Zeb′u·lun go stay for the side of sea, the waterside wey them de tie ships put, the ending part of im boundary go dey the side wey Si′don dey.

14 “Is′sa·char na donkey wey im bone strong, and e lie down between two bags wey e carry. 15 E go see say the place wey e de rest good, and say the land dey fine. E go bend im shoulder to carry the load, and e go gree do hard work like slave.

16 “Dan wey be one of the tribes for Israel go judge the people. 17 Make Dan be snake wey dey for side of road, snake wey get horn wey dey near road, wey de bite the leg of horse, wey make the person wey de ride-am fall go back. 18 O Jehovah, I go wait for the time wey you go save us.

19 “As for Gad, group wey de attack people go attack-am, but e go attack them for back.*

20 “Ash′er food* go plenty,* and e go bring food wey even king fit chop.

21 “Naph′ta·li na female deer* wey get small body. E de talk better-better things.

22 “Joseph na branch of tree wey de produce fruit, tree wey dey near water and de produce fruit, and wey the branch them grow reach the other side of the wall. 23 But people wey de shoot arrow continue to trouble-am and shoot-am, and continue to hate-am. 24 Even with that one, im bow no comot from where e dey, and im hand strong and fast. This one na from the hand of the person wey get power wey de help Jacob, wey be the shepherd and the stone of Israel. 25 E* come from the God of your papa, and e go help you, and e dey with the Almighty. E go make you get the blessings wey come from the heavens, the blessing of water wey come from inside-inside ground, and e go bless you with plenty children and animals.* 26 The blessings of your papa go better pass the good things wey de come from the mountains wey de stay forever, and e go better pass the fine-fine things wey de come from the hills wey de stay forever. This blessings go continue to dey ontop Joseph head, them go dey the top of the head of the person wey them don choose among im brothers.

27 “Benjamin go continue to tear im enemies just as wolf de do. For morning, e go chop the animal wey e kill, and for evening e go share the things wey e pack from im enemy.”

28 The 12 tribes of Israel come from all this children and this one na wetin their papa tell them when e de bless them. E give them the blessing wey each of them suppose get.

29 After that one, e command them say: “Small time, I go die.* Make una bury me with my papa them, for the cave wey dey the land of E′phron wey be Hitʹtite person, 30 the cave for the land wey dey Mach·pe′lah for front of Mam′re for the land of Ca′naan, the land wey Abraham buy from E′phron wey be Hitʹtite person, as place wey them fit bury people. 31 Na there them bury Abraham and im wife Sarah. Na there them bury Isaac and im wife Re·bek′ah, and na there I bury Le′ah. 32 Them buy the land and the cave wey dey inside from the sons of Heth.”

33 So Jacob finish all this things wey e de tell im sons. Then e carry im leg put ontop the bed, and breathe for the last time, and them bury-am just as them bury im people.

50 Then Joseph fall ontop im papa de cry and e kiss-am. 2 After that one, Joseph command im servants wey be doctors, say make them embalm* im papa. So the doctors embalm Israel. 3 And them use 40 days for-am because na this one be the full period wey them de embalm person. Then Egypt people continue to cry for-am for 70 days.

4 When the days wey them de mourn for-am don pass, Joseph tell the people wey de work for Phar′aoh* say: “If una want do wetin sweet me,* make una tell Phar′aoh this thing: 5 ‘My papa make me swear when e talk say: “See! Na die I de die so. Make you bury me for the burial place wey I don make for the land of Ca′naan.” So abeg, allow me go up go bury my papa, and after that one, I go come back.’” 6 Phar′aoh answer-am say: “Go bury your papa just as e make you swear.”

7 So Joseph go up go bury im papa, and all the servants of Phar′aoh go with-am, the elders wey dey im palace and all the elders for the land of Egypt 8 and all the people for Joseph house and im brothers and the people for the house of im papa. Na only their small-small children and their sheep and goats, and their cows and bulls them leave for the land of Go′shen. 9 People wey de ride chariots and people wey de ride horse go up with-am too, and the people plenty no be small. 10 Then, them reach the place wey them de separate grain from plant for A′tad, wey dey the area of Jordan, and for there, them really cry and mourn no be small and e continue to mourn for im papa for seven days. 11 The people wey de stay for the land, wey be Ca′naan people, see them as them de mourn for the place wey them de separate grain from plant for A′tad. Them talk with loud voice say: “This mourn wey Egypt people de mourn so, na really serious one!” Na im make the name of the place come be A′bel-miz′ra·im,* wey dey the area of Jordan.

12 So Jacob sons do exactly wetin e tell them say make them do for-am. 13 Im sons carry-am enter the land of Ca′naan and bury-am inside the cave wey dey the land of Mach·pe′lah, the land wey dey front of Mam′re wey Abraham buy as burial place from E′phron wey be Hitʹtite person. 14 After Joseph bury im papa, e go back to Egypt with im brothers and all the people wey follow-am go bury im papa.

15 When Joseph brothers see say their papa don die, them talk say: “E fit be say Joseph get something for mind against us, and say e go do us bad for all the bad things wey we do-am.” 16 So them send this message to Joseph say: “Your papa give this command before e die: 17 ‘Make una tell Joseph say: “My son, abeg, forgive your brothers for the bad things wey them don do to you, and the sin wey them commit, as them do you this kind bad thing.”’ Now, abeg, make you forgive the servants of the God of your papa for the bad thing wey them do.” And when them talk to Joseph, e cry. 18 Then im brothers still come kneel down for im front and talk say: “See us, we be your slaves!” 19 Joseph tell them say: “Make una no fear. I be God to judge una? 20 Even though say una plan to do me bad, God allow-am to turn to good thing, so that e go save plenty people life as e de do today so. 21 So now, make una no fear. I go continue to give una and una small-small children food.” So e make their mind come down and talk to them for way wey make them no fear again.

22 Joseph continue to stay for Egypt. E stay there with the people for im papa house, and Joseph live for 110 years. 23 Joseph see E′phra·im sons and grandsons, e still see the sons of Ma′chir wey be Ma·nas′seh son. Them born them ontop Joseph knees.* 24 After some time, Joseph tell im brothers say: “Na die I de die so, but God no go fail to help una, and e go surely take una comot from this land go the land wey e swear say e go give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” 25 So Joseph make the sons of Israel swear. E talk say: “God no go fail to help una. So make una make sure say una carry my bones comot from this place.” 26 Then Joseph die when e dey 110 years, and them embalm-am, and put-am for coffin for Egypt.
