提多将军因这些人亵渎了甚至罗马人也视为神圣的地方而大起反感，遂高喊道：

“你们可憎的人啊！你们竖起这栏杆［即把部分院子分隔开来的矮墙］，岂不是要保卫你们的圣所吗？你们岂不是每隔一段栏杆便设有以希腊文和我国文字刻成的通告，禁止人越过这围墙吗？
