30 min: Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Accept Any Minor Fractions of Blood? Discussion to be handled by an elder using the July 1, 2004, issue of The Watchtower​—On DVD, article 3. Invite the audience to comment on the following questions: What should be the primary concern of a Christian when deciding whether or not to accept blood fractions? (par. 1) What does the Bible say about the use of blood in pre-Christian times? (pars. 2-3) What contrast was there in the use of blood between Christians and non-Christians in ancient times? (pars. 4-6) What types of transfusions are common today? In obedience to God’s law, how do Jehovah’s Witnesses feel about accepting transfusions of whole blood or any of the four major components of blood? (pars. 7-8) How are blood fractions currently used in the medical field? Does the Bible contain explicit direction regarding the use of blood fractions? Explain. (pars. 9-11) Give examples of how a Christian may decide differently from other Christians regarding accepting blood fractions in medical treatment. What lines of reasoning have led some to feel as they do? (pars. 12-14) Does the fact that opinions and conscientious decisions differ mean that the issue of accepting blood fractions is inconsequential? Explain.
