“Ga tɛnɛ fe e ya gàazu ɣɛ e va.”—PS. 32:8.

WHAT THE MAIN POINT?

We will learn how to give good advice.

1. Ɓɛɛ ɣa maa nɛɛ e tɛnɛ fe? Yɛpɛ e vile ba.

HOW you can feel about giving advice? Some people can be happy to give advice. But for other people, they can be scare to give advice or they not just like giving advice. Still, all of us need to give advice from time to time. Why? Because Jesus say people will know his true desciples from the love they get for each other. (John 13:35) One way we can show that love, that to give our brother and sister dem advice when they need it. The Bible say “sweet friendship” can come from “sincere counsel.”—Prov. 27:9.

2. Zɛɓɛi maa nɛɛ kuuwu wũtuo veaitiɛ te kɛ, tɔwɔ zɛɓɛ ʋaa ma? (Wɛlɛ ɓalaa kologi va ““Counsel at the Midweek Meeting.”)

2 The elder dem that the main people who suppose to know how to give good advice. Why? Jehovah use Jesus to give this men dem the responsibility to take care of the congregation. (1 Pet. 5:2, 3) One way they can do it, that to use the Bible to give advice when they giving talk in the congregation. They must also give advice to everybody in the congregation, and even those who na leave Jehovah. How the elder dem and all of us can learn to give good advice?

The chairman to the midweek meeting, using the “Work Hard To Make Your Reading And Teaching Better” brochure to tell the student thank you. But he also giving counsel to the student.

Giving Counsel During the Midweek Meeting

When we give talk to the midweek meeting, sometime the chairman can give us counsel that can help us. When the student be giving his talk, the chairman will be looking to see whether the student applying his study point the right way.

After the talk, the chairman can tell the student thank you. Sometime, he can also tell the student the main thing that they can do to improve on that study point. But he must be kind when he saying it. That counsel can benefit the student and the whole congregation.—Prov. 27:17.

3. (a) Da leve ɣɛ le de ɣɛ ga tɛnɛ fe nu vagɔ? (Isaiah 9:6; wɛlɛ ɓalaa kologi va “Follow Jesus Example When You Giving Advice.”) (b) Zɛɓɛi de vaazu maa woli zu kɔlɔ zɛvɛi nii zu?

3 We can learn to give good advice by studying about people in the Bible who give good advice. One of them that Jesus. One of the titles he get that “Wonderful Counselor.” (Read Isaiah 9:6.) In this article, we will talk about what we can do when somebody ask us for advice and when somebody need advice, but they not ask us. We will also see how it good to give advice the right time and the right way.

Follow Jesus Example When You Giving Advice

See some of the thing dem that make Jesus to be “Wonderful Counselor,” and think about how we can follow his example.

  • Jesus knew what to say. He always knew the right thing to say because he always use to base his advice on what Jehovah say. He tell his disciple dem say: “The thing dem I can tell yor that not my own idea.”—John 14:10.

What the lesson? Even if we get experience and know plenty things, we must make sure to use the Bible to give advice.

  • Jesus knew the right time to give advice. He not take one day to tell his disciple dem all the thing dem they suppose to know. But he wait for the right time to counsel them, and he only tell them things they wor able to understand.—John 16:12.

What the lesson? When we want give somebody advice, we must wait for the right “time to speak.” (Eccl. 3:7) When we tell the person everything one time, maybe they will get confuse and discourage. So, it will be good to only tell the person the thing dem they need to know that will help them with their problem.

  • Jesus knew how to show respect. Jesus advice his desciple dem over and over about how to be humble. But anytime he doing it, he use to be kind and do it with respect.—Matt. 18:1-5.

What the lesson? Even if we need to advice somebody on the same thing over and over, we must continue to be kind and do it with respect.

ANI TA DE ƔAA-ZAƔA-KƐƐ NA GA DE TƐNƐ FE

4-5. Ani nu ɣa de ɣaa-zaɣa-kɛɛ na ga de tɛnɛ fe zeea, gaa-zaɣa-kɛɛ zɛɓɛi maa nɛɛ dɛ de ɣi-gaa-ziɛ ma? Po-kɔ̃ɔ-ma ʋe.

4 When somebody ask us for advice, what the first thing we must do? Maybe we will be happy that our friend trust us, so we can want help them right away. But first, we must ask ourself this question, ‘I the best person to give advice on this situation?’ Sometime, the best way to help that to show the person somebody who will give him good advice on the situation.

5 For example, suppose your best friend get some kindna serious sickness. He tell you that he been looking at different-different treatment that he able to get. Then he ask you which one you think will be alright for him to take. Maybe you really feel that one of the treatment will be alright for him. But you not doctor to know the best treatment for that sickness. So, the best way you can help your friend, that to tell him to go to the doctor who will be able to help him.

6. Zɛɓɛi e kɛɛ maa nɛɛ de naa maa kpowũ dɔ vɛɛ tɛnɛ feezu?

6 Even if we feel that we able to give advice on certain thing, sometime it will be good to wait small before we answer the person. Why? Because Proverbs 15:28 say “the righteous one meditates before answering.” Suppose we think that we know the answer? It good to still take small time to do research, to pray, and think about it good-good. When we do it, we will be more convince that we giving our answer the way Jehovah want it. Let talk about the prophet Nathan example.

7. Zɛɓɛi e maa wolia Neetã na po-kɔ̃ɔ-mai zu?

7 King David tell the prophet Nathan that he wanted to build Jehovah temple. Right away Nathan tell him to do it. But Nathan suppose to ask Jehovah first. Why? Because Jehovah not wanted for David to build the temple. (1 Chron. 17:1-4) This example show that when somebody ask us for advice, it will be good for us to be “slow to speak.”—Jas. 1:19.

8. Zaɓui ta ɣa ga zɛɓɛ e kɛɛ maa nɛɛ de da ma ani da ɣɛna tɛnɛ feezu?

8 Yeh another reason why we must be careful when we giving advice to somebody: If we give the wrong advice and something bad happen, the person will blame us too. So, we get good reason to really think before we give advice.

ANI DA ƔƐNA TƐNƐ FEEZU ƁƆƆ YEE MA

9. Zɛɓɛi maa nɛɛ kuuwu wũtuo veaitiɛ te kwɛ̃ɛ tɔ vɛɛ tɛnɛ feezu? (Galeesiaitiɛ 6:1)

9 From time to time, the elder dem need to give advice to any brother or sister who na take “false step,” even if the person not ask them. (Read Galatians 6:1.) The study note on this verse say the person just “taking the wrong step, but they not commit serious sin yet.” The elder dem want help the person to continue serving Jehovah. (Jas. 5:19, 20) But for them to give the right advice, they must first make sure that the person na take the wrong step. They must remember that, not because the person make decision that different from their own, it mean that the person na take the wrong step. (Rom. 14:1-4) Suppose the elder dem really sure that the person na take the wrong step, how they can advise him?

10-12. Zɛɓɛi maa nɛɛ kuuwu wũtuo veaitiɛ te kɛ tɔ vɛɛ tɛnɛ feezu ɓɔɔ yee ma? Po-kɔ̃ɔ-ma ʋe. (Wɛlɛ ɓalaa footeitiɛ va.)

10 It can’t be easy for the elder dem to give advice to somebody who not ask them for it. Why? Because the apostle Paul say that somebody can take wrong step before he know it. So, the elder dem must first do some thing dem that will make it easy for the person to listen.

11 Giving advice that somebody not ask for looking just like planting seed on hard ground. Before the farmer plant his seed, he can prepare the ground. He can make the ground soft so it can be easy for the seed to grow. Then he can plant his seed and water it so it can grow. That the same way, before any elder give advice that somebody not ask for, he must do some thing dem that will make it easy for the person to listen. For example, the elder must wait for the right time to talk and let the person know that he care for them. If people know the person who giving the advice to be somebody who kind and get love, it will be more easy for them to listen to his advice.

12 When the elder talking with the person, he must make it more easy for the person to listen. He can do it by helping the person to see that everybody can make mistake and need advice from time to time. (Rom. 3:23) The elder must make it clear from the Bible to help the person see how he na take the wrong step. But he must be kind and do it with respect. When the person agree that they make mistake, the elder must “plant the seed” by telling him the thing dem he must do to correct his mistake. Then the elder must “water” the seed by telling the person thank you and praying with them.—Jas. 5:15.

Different-different picture dem showing the elder giving advice to one brother. The picture dem comparing it to one farmer planting his seed on hard ground. 1. Prepare the ground: The farmer preparing the ground; the elder taking his own time to talk with the brother. 2. Plant: The farmer planting his seed in the ground; the elder using the Bible to help the brother understand that he na take the wrong step. 3. Water: The farmer watering the seed that he plant; the elder praying with the brother.

We must show love and know how to talk when we giving advice to somebody who not ask for it (See paragraphs 10-12)

13. Kuuwu wũtuo veaitiɛ ta leve ɣɛ le te kwɛ̃ɛ ani manui tɛnɛgi ɣaa ɣa?

13 Maybe the person will not understand the advice the correct way. Wetin the elder dem can do so the person can understand it good-good? They can ask questions. But they must be kind and do it with respect. (Eccl. 12:11) The way the person will answer the question dem will help the elders to know whether the person really understand the advice.

TƐNƐ FE MA ZIƐ VAGƆI MA NA ƔA ƔƐƐNA E FE GA PAGƆ

14. Solowogɛ ga de tɛnɛ fe ani de yii ɣaa wãlavɛ? Yɛpɛ e vile ba.

14 We not perfect, so sometime we will do or say something that will make other people vex. (Col. 3:13) The Bible say that sometime we will even make each other vex bad way. (Eph. 4:26) But why we must not give advice when we vex? Because “man’s anger does not bring about God’s righteousness.” (Jas. 1:20) If we give advice when we vex, maybe we will cause more problem instead of helping. This one not mean that we must not say what in our heart when somebody make us vex. But when we wait until our heart come down, we will be able to say what in our heart the right way. Let see how Elihu set good example when he wor giving Job counsel.

15. Zɛɓɛi de maa wolia Yiilawu na po-kɔ̃ɔ-mai zu? (Wɛlɛ ɓalaa footei va.)

15 Elihu spend some days listening when Job wor trying to correct the wrong things his friend dem wor saying about him. He wor feeling sorry for Job. But certain time Elihu get vex bad way, because Job wor only focusing on hisself and saying all kindna thing dem about Jehovah. With all that one, Elihu wait for the right time to talk with Job. He take his own time and do it with respect. (Job 32:2; 33:1-7) Yeh the important lesson we can learn from Elihu: The best time to give advice that when our heart come down. And we must do it with love and respect.—Eccl. 3:1, 7.

Elihu really listening to Job and feeling sorrow for him. Job get sore all over his body.

Even though Elihu wor vex bad way, but he wait until his heart come down. Then he take his own time to advice Job (See paragraph 15)

ƔAA ƁAA YIƐ TƐNƐ FE NA ƔA ƔƐƐNA YIƐ YEE ZEI TƐNƐ BU

16. Zɛɓɛi e maa wolia Psalm 32:8 zu?

16 The theme scripture for this article say that ‘Jehovah can give us advice with his eyeball on us.’ (Read Psalm 32:8.) This one show that he will always be there to help us. He can’t give us advice and just leave us like that, but he can help us to apply it. That good example here for us! When we get the opportunity to advice other people, we must follow Jehovah example. We can do it by keeping our eye on them and helping them to apply it.

17. Ani kuuwu wũtuo veaitiɛ ta tɛnɛ feena kuloai Gala Kɔlɔi zu, te ma ʋaa ɣa wulo ɣɛ le? Yɛpɛ e vile ba. (Isaiah 32:1, 2)

17 Now-now, that the main time we need to give and get good advice. (2 Tim. 3:1) Elders who can give the right Bible advice looking just “like streams of water in a waterless land.” (Read Isaiah 32:1, 2.) We grateful for our friend dem who can’t be scare to give us the advice that we need. They looking like “apples of gold in silver carvings.” (Prov. 25:11) So let all of us continue to learn how to give and get good advice.
