LESSON 73

Jɔ̃ Pelei Ɣavele Ɓɛtɛni

When Zechariah and Elizabeth son John get big, that the time he wor prophet. Jehovah use John to teach the people that the Messiah wor coming. But instead of John teaching in the synagogues or in the towns, he use to preach in the wilderness. People use to come from Jerusalem and all over Judea to learn from him. He teach them that to make God happy, they must stop doing bad things. After listening to John, plenty people repent and John baptize them in the Jordan River.

John live simple life. He use to wear clothes that they made from camel hair, and eat grasshopper and honey. The people really wanted to know about John. Even the proud Pharisees and Sadducees go there to see him. John tell them say: ‘Yor need to change yor ways and repent. Yor must not think that yor special just because yor say yor Abraham children. It not mean that yor God children.’

Plenty people ask John: ‘Wetin we must do to make God happy?’ John tell them say: ‘If you get two coats, give one to somebody who need it.’ You know why John say that one? He wanted his disciple dem to know that to make God happy they must love people.

John tell the tax collector dem say: ‘Yor must be honest and yor must not cheat anybody.’ He tell the soldier dem say: ‘Yor must not take bribe or lie.’

The priest and the Levite dem also ask John: ‘You who? Everybody wanted to know.’ So John say: ‘I the voice in the wilderness, that making people to know Jehovah, just how Isaiah say it.’

People use to love the things John wor teaching. So plenty people started thinking whether John wor the Messiah. But he tell them say: ‘The person who coming after me great pass me. I not even fit to take out his scandals from on his foot. I can baptize people with water, but he will baptize yor with holy spirit.’

“This man came to tell people about the light, so that everybody can believe because of what he say.”—John 1:7
